Ai Katt, I wish there was something I could say to make it better. Wish I could give you a hug. The best you can do for Gizzy is to love him, and hold him, and hug him, and tell him everythings going to be ok, that he doesnt have anything to be afraid of. That you will be there for him no matter what. I will light a candle for Gizzy and send him all the energy I can muster, and I'll send a few of my guardian angel kitties as well, to enfold him in light and protect him.

KK, I wondered if it was the 'human' squeezy cheese.....the vet asked if I could get him to swallow the supplement capsule, but I told him I doubted it but could try...he is fighting the liquid meds more now.

Hi, well, I am back to worrying....I called the vet and told him that Mo wasn't eating much, and he is lovey, but quiet...he said we were at a critical stage, he hoped he was not running out of steam, but that is the impression I got from him, that it could be a possibility. Even the day Mo came back from the vet, he ate well, but everyday after that it seems he is eating less and less. He said to tempt him with anything he might eat, I asked him if he thought it could be the antibiotic/pain killer that was making him eat less, and he said no, he highly doubted it. But he said to discontinue that for a day or two and see, I think he said that to make me feel better. I was SO hopeful after hearing your stories of those living with kidney failure! Now, I don't know. I am so surprised though, at how fast he is declining if that is what is happening. I feel so sad :(

Katt, Squeezy Cheese is not a brand name or a pet product. It is the cheese that comes in a can. Like Cheez Whiz or other brands like that. That was my old vets trick to get kitties and puppies to take their meds. Gracie could not resist it. Dr. Henkel would even lay down a line of the stuff to distract Gracie, Emma and Thierry from the fact that they were getting exams and shots. They were so into scarffing up the cheese that they paid no attention to the poking and prodding.

It's flavor is strong enough it hopefully would mask the taste of the supplement.

The meds may be making his food taste funny to him. When I take decongestants for a few days, milk and dairy products just taste awful. I can't tell you how many quarts of milk I dumped out because they had gone sour, before I realized it was my taste buds that had gone bad.

You may just have to keep changing his food around and/or force feeding him a tiny bit every hour to keep him nourished while he finishes his meds.

I have never heard of a vet (or a human doctor) taking baseline blood tests AFTER they have filled up your system with toxins that the kidneys and liver have to filter out. She sounds like a real idiot.

Thanks Cheri! I think it is going to be the best idea to order online instead of driving that far. I am just wondering how Mo will survive another 7 or 8 days on the meds and not eating much, I am getting concerned, he ate SO well before!

KK, I'm thinking if I moisten the dry food and put that supplement on, he will not eat it, but it IS worth a try! The supplement does have a smell to it. I found a canned food that is supposed to be for urinary probs, low ph and low mg....I thought it smelled good, but just gave him some and he won't eat. He ate so well before, so I do think it is the antibiotic/pain killer that is making him feel too poopy to eat (I hope anyway!!) He started not eating much after a 3 or 4 doses of the med. I will be so glad when that is done and then I'll see how he does. Thanks for your thoughts on this :)) I am going to write down the names Squeezy Cheese and tuna Sophistocat....The closest PetSmart is an hour away, one way!

Katt, you could try using a spray bottle to barely moisten the dry food and sprinkle the supplement on that. Or mix it in with some Squeezy Cheese and see if he goes for it. My cats get Cosequin every night and I mix it with flaked tuna Sophistocat from Petsmart. The love it becuase it has lots of gravy and tiny bites of meat. They are picky about the texture of wet food.

Thanks NNGM.....Mo was eating Fancy Feast before all this and loved it, and yes, I did read that you could mix some of the regular stuff in to get them used to the new diet, but right now he doesn't even seem to want Fancy Feast, hopefully that will change when he is done with his meds for pain and infection....it's funny to see him "zone" out! The pain med must make him spacey :) I will keep working on him to get him to take his supplement and new canned food.

It's been awhile, but back when I had to put the cats on kidney diet there were about 3 different manufacturers making it (Science Diet, Eukanuba, and I can't remember the other). The vet gave me a can of each and told me to do the "kitty taste test". I think mine went for the Science Diet. I also cheated a little by mixing in just a little Fancy Feast (along with the supplement). That seemed to do the trick.

Thanks Rossy! The pain med has worked wonderfully for him, but he won't take his supplement, nor can I tempt him with canned food, even his one-time fav kind....I think the meds have upset his tummy, though he still loves the new dry food and his water fountain!

Thanks! Gizmo is calmer today and friendlier. He must have been having alot of pain before the meds. At some point over the last 2 days, the rascal had peed on the seat of our bay window! grrr, but considering the way he felt, I think I can forgive him :)) Now I see him going downstairs to use his litterbox. Now my prob seems to be getting him to eat the supplement I have to sprinkle on his food, he will not even touch it! Any suggestions?? He loves the prescription dry food he was given, but won't eat the canned. I can take the stuff back they said if he didn't like it, but now to find a canned food he likes and is good for his kidneys!!!
