Bracing for the storm here. NYC schools are closed. The boss hasn't called it for our district yet, but I expect the call this evening. We're all set here - the woodburner is going strong, and we have plenty of cat food! A few years back I was making something in my slowcooker and the power went out. I took the insert out and put it on the woodburner, where it finished cooking (and the house smelled great!). We don't open the fridge unless absolutely necessary (we stick the beers in the snow outside the back door), and we have water stored for drinking and some stored for toilet-flushing. We have wells and septic systems here, so there's no water when the power goes out. I'm just getting back to this thread, been feeding the birds, reading, watching tv. No, I don't put any hot water in a thermos, though that is a great idea as I have quite a few of them. I didn't lose power during the storm over the weekend, however, it is expected there will be more outages this time around. We may not get as much snow but it's going to be very blustery over a sustained period of time and they fear that and the heavy snow is going to cause major problems. I'll just suck it up if that happens and hope for the best. Sometimes my side of the street goes out but my sister still has power. If that happens I'll walk up to her house and hunker down with them (and take my poor Jetta along, protesting the whole time!). If we all lose power, well, will just do the best I can and hope for the best.
