Thanks catwoman! i just came up with that off the top of my head. I'm hoping to go up to NY and see my husband, aunt and uncle this week f he doesnt have a college commitment over the weekend. Everytime im with him, that's the feeling i get. i can be sitting with him, and i get this serene feeling, like despite everythin going on in my life, whenim with him, for a short time, everything is fine. i can't explain it, he's just very gentle and calm. and when im upset i feel so easy to talk to him, and i's almost like when i relyon my cats to talk to. they r truly my most cherished 'posessions'. :)

Longer than half a page I'm afraid but here goes anyway:

Whispers

Some say God's voice is like thunder
Or maybe the waves of the ocean
But sometimes God's voice is only a whisper...

-----
From the depths of darkness to the brightest light
Echoes of love comfort a frightened soul
Whispers guiding, surrounding, reminding me
Telling me I'm never alone

The voice of love
Calling to me
Find me when I've lost my way

As gentle as a quiet breeze - sweet as a bird's song
As joyful as the laughter of a child
Words of hope mending the pieces of a broken heart
Echoing forever in my mind

Calling to me
Reminding me
Picking me up when I fall

From the depths of the darkness I cried out
Not sure of the answer that I would receive
Suddenly the air was alive with whispers of His love
Chasing the darkness away as the new dawn welcomed me

Whispers - the longing of my soul

----

Sometimes God's voice is like thunder
Sometimes God's voice is only a whisper

Wow, Tigger, thanks for the critique! I did not know of the Genesis song you mention; the poem was written in response to an actual event in our home when my boys were small. It was a bitter cold night and I found a mouse in the laundry room. I intended to release him outside the next day when it was going to warm up, but in the meantime could not have him loose in the house, for sanitary reasons and also for his own safety. I put him in a large coffee can replete with food, water, and a soft bed of cotton. I punched air holes in the lid of the can and put it under the sink in a locked cabinet. In the morning, I was surprised to find the lid chewed thru and the can empty. We actually found the sad remains in my son's bedroom, but that didn't fit the rhyme as well as "by the sink."

We imagined how it all went down and I wrote the poem out in about 10 minutes. It was like I channneled the mouse. ;-) BTW, my sons loved the poem and wanted me to turn it into a wierd children's book complete with grisly drawings.

Extremely nice,Catwoman!! Bravo. Excellent! It ranks right up there with the lyrics to an old song by Genesis(I almost had to wonder if it was inspired by it,though you've obviously written a completely unique soliloqy) entitled "All In A Mouse's Night",from their 1st album without Peter Gabriel. The tension,or buildup, and release in the progression of the poem is well done,CW! And the rhyming scheme, while simple,is elegant and rythmic almost becoming musically so. We're going to have to start developing a voting system or rankings on the entries, unless folks want to keep it non-competitive,which is perfectly fine with me as well. :)

Ooops, sorry Patti!; you typed in at the same time as me,I'll have to come back and read over your's too,as I'm going off of break at school here. But I'll be back up online after 7pm! :)

:) ok here I go -

Daylight caresses my cheek, soft as watercolour on a page,
the darkness around me fading slowly as serenity envelopes me,
in the blanket of this wonder, time stops

I breathe in the gentle beat of morning's symphony
and float upon the petals at my feet.

My heart sings an aria to the ardency which has graced itself upon me.
I am at the mercy of the spell, and do not wish t be awakened from this dream.
I feel anew, bathed in adulation for the phenomenom which has engrossed my every stilling breath.

Why is it this morning, of all days, when so often I have cried, have beat my head against life's door in order to beg for a small crumb of happiness, has this day been chosen for such a gift?

It is simply because in this day, i have decided to take a moment from my busy life to be greatful for the simple miraculous treasures I am always so happy to feel -

I am watching my husband in the doorway holding our cat, and I know that despite all that is wrong and horrid in life, small joys still cause us to never give up hope, and to love twice as much as we pain.

Dedicated to Manvinder and our babies.

ODE TO A MOUSE

Silly Mousie, I guess you couldn't see
that the can that held you was sanctuary.

Instead, you perceived yourself trapped in a jail
and got right to work--though doubts should assail.

All through the night you most patiently bit
a small hole in the lid through which you could fit.

At last your hard work did yield it's reward--
you squeezed through to freedom, and let down your guard.

Unaware of the danger, you danced and you played,
but your plans for the future would soon be waylaid.

For you see, foolish Mousie, there's no place to hide
when you're in a house where 8 cats do abide!

All of a sudden, one picked up your scent
and followed your trail to see where it went.

The others grew curious and soon joined the search;
before long, they found you on your hidden perch.

You looked 'round in terror at 16 green eyes
and suddenly realized your choice was UNWISE.

Sadly, you had no more time left to think--
they took off your head right there by the sink!

I'm sorry, dear Mousie, it's so sad to see
you paid with your life for your brief liberty.

Here's my re-entered poem to start us off!

Winter’s Desolation

Spring comes; spring goes, just as all things do.
Things live, things die, things swim, and some things even fly.
With the arrival of spring new life begins
Flowers come into bloom,
Sweet music fills the air as life is renewed.
But, with the coming of winter all begin to cry.
For with winter, the world shrivels and dies.
Spring has begun to die with every sign of winter’s incursion upon life.
Tears fall in glistening streams,
All life cries out in anguish.
As winter comes, all let loose mournful sighs
Winter comes on a cold crisp night.
On this night spring dies, while winter strives
All of nature slumbers as winter's time begins.
All born to winter shall survive, while others die.
Those who are born for this weather and time rise up and live again.
The arrival of winter marks life’s end.
Yet there is still hope for with spring’s return all things shall mend, and life will be renewed and begin yet again.

A while back,I volunteered a few Night-Shift closing descriptions that AZDEBRA incorporated into her own routine, seeing as she's the usual midnight flip-sider of the gang. One of my descriptive duties was the shutting off of the neon "TDK Night-Shift/Poetry Slam" sign in the window of the Night-Shift chatroom! Well!...long story short,CW inquired the other night as to why she was always missing the Poetry Slam portion of the Night-Shift.(there's been none up to now,'twas only a germ of an idea.)So that made me realize that maybe it's time to explore the concept. Here it is,guys! The (un)Official TDK 2008 Poetry Slam Off! The only rule I can think of right now would be to try and keep each poem under half a page.(Not sure how may words that's worth, what's a Wordsworth these days anyway? * GROAN * :D ) Have at it!! :)
