Signed and commented. As the parents of Bo and volunteers with a rescue transport organization, we know how important fostering is and it really takes a special person who can care for a pet temporarily and then let them go. I know I can't.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

I'm the founder & chairperson of this group being harassed in South Jersey and going to court was our last option as we truly did try to reason with the town, explain what rescue is, the difference between owning & fostering (it's temporary!) and how important this work is ... but they would not budge in their opinion.

Our trial date will be moved (not sure to when yet!) which is disappointing because we just want to get this over with ... we're shut down until this is resolved.

Again, thank you for all your support! :)

My county does not have a pet limit at all, but get this--ALL animals are to be leashed if they are outside, including cats and ferrets. My next-door neighbor had a pit bull that got loose and ran into my yard and attacked my dog, who fortunately was able to make it into the house through the cat door, and I found that if he had killed one of my cats I would have been cited for my cat being outside ON MY OWN PROPERTY without being on a leash! I live on nearly an acre on a cul de sac surrounded by woods specifically to give my cats room to explore fairly safely.

Count me in! I have 7 furr babies myself and I am hardly a "horder". Most of my kids had no where else to go but to the SPCA (kill facility) or the streets so what was more humaine? Are they well cared for? Absolutely! If I could foster others I would do that too (Don't think my kids would care for that very much).

Thanks to all for signing this! This town is in my county and I'm already over the limit with 5 cats, although my specific town does not have a limit. This county is very un-friendly to ferals too. There is an ordinance that says you can't have outdoor cats and they even rounded up one man's feral colony, even though they were well cared for. Imagine that TNR does not go over well either. Backward thinking!

Also signed.

There should be an exemption for those who foster animals on a temporary basis and work with a shelter. Perhaps the shelter could regularly inspect their homes, say, once a year? (I suspect most shelters do already, in any case.) That wouldn't add an undue burden (shelters low on staff could get a volunteer to do it) and it would fulfill the spirit of the law, protecting animals from hoarding and the public health and safety.

I signed too. Fostering is difficult enough physically and emotionally without adding the stress of city councils acting like Neanderthals.

It is a shame that there cannot be stipulations to protect and seperate the foster family rescues from what might be a legitimate need to prevent some of the horrifying stories we read about where people have amassed too many animals that have been found ill, starving, injured or dead. I did sign the petition because I think they're carrying their legislation too far.

I hope TDKers can help with this petition, as it potentially impacts many other rescue groups. A local New Jersey rescue group is being taken to court because one of the foster households has been fined for being 'over the limit' on a three pet per household limit. The town has just harassed these poor people and now they are set to go to court on March 11. The lawyer for the group is representing them pro-bono but it is still costing them all of their funds to fight this thing so they are out of the rescue business for now! His argument will be that the limit on # of pets is not constitutional. Read all about this here:
http://trappedcats.com/?page_id=18

The petition is here:
http://www.petitiononline.com/fosters1/petition.html

If any New Jersey TDKers are interested, there is a rally on February 23 at the Mullica Hill library. I will be there. Thank you.
