WWM...you do beautiful work. I used to do alot of embroidery when I was younger. I even started a quilt once. The kind where you gathered the cut circles into puffs. I meant well, but, never finished it. I wish I had more time. I would love to make the little kitty bed pads. Maybe some day.

I have such mixed feelings about all of this. I so want to believe in the Iraqi people, but it is examples such as this one and many others that I have heard, that make me truly wonder. We sacrifice our most precious brave American men and women for this kind of gratitude! Ok, so maybe it's the terrorists that are doing this kind of thing, but if the Iraqis are truly grateful then they should revolt and stand together and fight the bad guys to protect us, the people that are trying to help them....So sorry, you got me started, I guess you hit a nerve.

Well, I have a pattern in mind. But it would definitely involve cats!

It is ironic about our friend and I will post more when I make the quilt. But he extended his tour in Iraq because they were building a hospital. For the Iraqi people. So how do they show gratitude? By planting a bomb where they know the American soldiers will be. Yes, I am a little bitter. Having been down this road in Vietnam it makes it seem like we don't learn our enemies very well.

Thanks WWM; Meow Meow , I am happy to say has not vomited today. I have been super cautious giving him only small amounts of food at a time.
Of course, it makes sense to make the quilt for the military family first...I pray that he is recovering....When you do make the TDK quilt, will it be of a kitty or are you going to keep it a surprise? This will be something to look forward to for sure; and from here it looks like you are a good enough quilter .

Hi, Tigerlilly! I have been thinking so much about our little MeowMeow. Poor baby! I hope everything has come out all right :-).

I'm not a good enough quilter to ever think of selling quilts. But, I do plan to do a raffle quilt for the TDK fund. Actually, that was my next project in line until I learned of our friend who has been so seriously injured in Iraq. His quilt went immediately to the top of the list.

Yes, my two critics are always ready to lend their opinion. Which generally means, "Let us sleep on the quilt or else!".

WOW!! I'm so glad I finally had a minute to open this post. You are sooo talented. I have not read all the above (sorry if this is a repeat ?), but do you sell your quilts?, or do you just make them as special tokens for friends and family? I see you have two darling admirers at home; they obviously have very good taste! Please continue to share your beautiful talent with us.

After a full bottle of red wine, shared with my husband, she seemed quite teary eyed over the quilt. Or, it could have been the quality of the wine???

Oh, y'all are so sweet! BHM, drop hints! Sometimes we think that no one wants our handi-work. I have a tee-shirt quilt on my blog site. It's the one called Run for Your Life. We used to race in road races, mostly 10K's, and we had all of these tee-shirts. Finally I made a quilt and it's a great way to re-live the races without having to actually wear the tee-shirts!

But, yes - quilters can be quite devious! One of the true pleasures of quilting is giving the quilts away and hoping that someone will love them. I just had a call last night from the recipient of my Texas Patriot quilt. I thought he was going to cry! That meant a whole lot to me because he is a wonderful man and a great Army officer who has so faithfully served our country.

KK - someday I would like to come to Paducah! Short of the Houston Quilt Festival (I'm sorry - it is bigger! Not because it's Texas but because it was the first international festival) Paducah is the place to be! What a sweet story about your brother-in-law. It's wonderful to have something personal to remember people by that would have made them happy.

WWM, what a beautiful quilt and a thoughtful thing to do for your friend. When my brother-in-law passed last April, my Sister-in-law had a quilt made from his favorite T-Shirts and things that he always wore. She displayed it at what would have been his 40th Birthday party and it meant so much to all of us who were there.

I'm so happy that you have that, anncetera! I was very, very close to my grandmother and although she's been gone an awfully long time, I still miss her. She taught me to sew and actually I think that she's hanging out in my sewing room. Sometimes I'll make a mistake and think "Well, no one knows it but me and I'll just leave it." Then I'll hear this voice... "Oh baby (she always called me that), what a shame but you're going to have to rip that out." You would think that just once she could overlook my mistakes!

WWM, I inherited my mom's doll collection back in November; we finished distribution of her estate. The rag doll was indeed there, and I cried for the woman I barely remember, who died in pain from bone cancer and crippling arthritis back in the late 60's.

What a lovely memory, anncetera! I hope that you still have that little ragdoll.

I have a teddy bear that belonged to my father so it is now close to 90 years old. It's definitely looking the worse for wear. It's stuffed with straw, I think. The other day I found it on the floor of the guest bedroom and I'm pretty sure that I know how it got there. Windi has quite a ....borrowing... problem!

WWM, one interesting thing a friend of mine told me was about how she quilted over a layer of batting tacked down to a wool Army blanket, as the core of the quilt. Don't know that you'd have time, or if that would make the quilt too heavy, but thought I'd mention it.

WWM, not at all! One of the most cherished mementos of my paternal grandmother, who passed away when I was barely 3 years old, is a patchwork pillow (a pretty simple Ohio Star), trimmed with eyelet ruffle. The patchwork is white and a pink swirled/floral pattern. The pink is from her favorite dress.

I remember the hem of that dress, as she leaned down to hand me my very own ragdoll. The doll's body was a large flattened strawberry, with little short legs with Mary Janes, short little arms; she had Clara Bow lips embroidered on, and blond curly hair (yarn). I can't remember my grandmother's face, but I remember those hands with the rag doll, and the hem of her dress.

Well, gosh, Karen - you do have a friend like that. In fact, you've got lots and lots!

CR - it has been pretty much of a factory in my sewing room lately! And I need to start on a new one in the next day or so. The husband of a special friend, both are in the Army, was badly wounded in Iraq last week. He's back at Walter Reed but will have a long recovery. I have part of the fabric and will probably do another nine-patch because those are so fast, but I need a bit more fabric. No matter how big my fabric stash is, I never seem to have what I need! This one will need to be really functional and I want him to have it as soon as he gets out of ICU as I can get it up there.

Thank you, 2bp! Can you believe how big my girls have gotten? I wish that I could have kept them tiny and fuzzy longer. Willow is now extremely interested in treats which she gets at 2:00. But whenever I go in the kitchen from noon on, there she is! I haven't told her but one of her treats is actually a sort of arthritis medication to ward off problems with her little leg that was broken. She loves those!
