Dorie...there are some weird foods out there that people eat. There have been times I wanted to become a vegetarian, but, quickly squashed it. I do limit the meats I eat only because I can't afford the finer cuts. Filet minon,Porterhouse,T-bone. I do Love scallops & abalone. Had a friend that used to go diving for abalone & would turn us on to it because he was sick of eating it. Geesh. I would never tire from that.

Hope & Prayer your son is doing alright & won't have to go to the hospital

All the usual kid stuff covered in chocolate like ants, bees, spiders. Will not touch almost any veal OR foie-gras,though. REAL French truffles are quite exquiste, magnifique! Rocky Mountain spotted-oysters are definitely an aquired taste that I've never aquired.:C Now that you munchin' it though.....(groan!)

The wildest I've had was Shark...I'd rather eat IT than the other way around. It was the best tasting seafood I've ever had
I used to live in Sunol,California(quite rural). During the mating season,we'd walk down a single road & see dozens of tarantula crossing the street looking for a fuzzy to mate with. Creepy looking

*yeah..I don't get out much,do I?

Come on TDKers, there must be other adventurous taste buds out there. Let us know your experiences of 'wild' food. We have several 'wild food' festivals here in NZ and some of the things you can get would make your hair curl.

it's ALL in the tastebuds, guys. And thank God everyone's are different. In many isolated, tribal cultures, when children especially are introduced to processed cane sugar, they complain that it "burns" their tounges. And I'm sure it does!

Yuck, yuck, and more yuck. Tho I have cooked mountain oysters for the guys, Moonshadow. Dipped in a beer batter, and deep fried, they get raves. (and doused with hot sauce) I do think it's a man thing though! You know, getting hot and sweaty, working on the cattle, they figure it's a reward they have coming. My first job as a small child, was to carry the "nut bucket", around to all the castrating sites.

The wildest things I have eaten are Huhu grub, which lives in the rotting wood of dying trees in NZ native bush, it was lightly sautee'd in butter, very nice indeed. The second 'wild' food was lamb's tails. Hubby was a shepherd and it was docking time (removal of the tails to prevent fly strike). The tails were cooked by throwing on a fire, the wool burnt away and then you suck the gelatinous meat off. Very sweet and tasty. Didn't get the chance to try 'mountain oysters'.
