You were very lucky!</p> <p>I cannot stand seeing a dog loose and the obnoxious owners doing nothing about it. Back in 1994-1999, I lived in a an old victorian in Marin that had been converted to an eight unit place. Two of the units faced a back yard where one of my neighbors did a little gardening (tomatos, herbs, catnip, corn, and other vegitables. The yard had a low level white fence with a gate opening. The gate was suppose to stay closed but we had some people in the building who couldn't be bothered with closing it after themselves. A couple of times I recalled a stray dog coming into the yard to bark at my cat who was sunning herself on the back steps. The dog was a Rottweiler and I was so angry that I didn't think about the danger but walked up to the dog with the hose and yelled at it. I wasn't going to spray it but was going to use the hose to beat it with. Thankfully it backed off and left and didn't come around anymore. It had tags on it and I wish I could have read them to report the dog to the police. We had about four or five cats in the building who would sometimes all be out in the yard or up in one of the trees. I never had a problem with dogs until a few years back when I was trying to help what I thought was a stray. She (a small alsation) was fine, but by the time I noticed her friend (a very NOT small alsation) it was to late, and my backside took the brunt of it. I would have been quite badly hurt, but a couple of men in a car stopped and frightened the dog off. As it was, the bruises I had were huge, and I couldn't walk properly for a week. That dog could in fact have killed a child very quickly and effortlessly! I'm glad the woman was issued a citation. I doubt that it will change her attitude..but due to your actions...a life may in fact have been spared. Poor little kitty never had a chance. Lets put the blame where it really belongs----on the owner of the loose dog who scared BB.</p> <p>You are lucky the pit bull didn't get his mouth around BB. This year I was putting up my Christmas tree in my front window when I saw 2 pit bulls attack a meezer feral kitten that had been born in my yard--right on my front porch! I dropped everything and ran outside to save her not even thinking of the danger to myself, but it was too late. I was screaming, still in my robe and nightgown. A few days later I told my neighbor, who helps with the ferals also, she told me the dogs tried to attack her and her 90-year-old mother when they were taking their dog to PetSmart. She followed them to their house and confronted the owner--he told her to go F**K herself. She gave me their address, so I got dressed and drove to the house. There were the dogs, one tied up in front of the house and the other loose. I called the police, who came out and called animal control after they talked to the owner, who claimed the loose one wasn't theirs (after they told my neighbor it was!)Animal control took aweay the loose one, which was very vicious, the police had their guns drawn when it appeared the dog might overpower the control guy. Then they gave the woman summonses for harboring a dangerous animal and not having a license for 3 dogs (a third was in the backyard). The city destroyed the one they caught, so at least I have the satisfaction that the cats and children in our area will be safer. I was so upset by this I couldn't even talk about it until now, even to all my friends here at TDK. I know how scared you were. I rescued my oldest when she was little from an Alsation that was mauling her and got chewed up badly myself. A decade later I had to rescue one of my orangies from a dog pack who jumped over our fence into the backyard. I ran them off with a lead pipe and he survived with a few stitches to the ripe old age of 22. Needless to say ALL of my kids are strictly indoors critters now. Get well quickly.
