Thanks for the cool link Buttercup. I have added it to my favorites.

Thanks to everybody else who let me watch the owls through their eyes. Now that I have my internet back, I am doing some serious catching up with two different windows on owls while I have this window shrunk down so I can still read and post.

As for the Texas crew, they all 5 seem to be thriving. Can't imagine the smell in there, especially on the days it gets hot enough for them to do all that gular fluttering! They're spending the day up close to the front, imagine the air is fresher by the door. Doing a lot of grooming and wing spreading. Am getting a kick out of their stubby little tails!

Frida is doing a lovely job of carrying for her 5. I'm concerned about the other two eggs, it seems to me they should have hatched by now. Had to laugh, Diego came in once last night with a huge what looked like a meadow vole and dropped it in front of her. Did not mate, but they had a short discussion, with him turning his head back over his shoulder to answer her. After which he left. I imagined her telling him "dear, this won't be enough, you'll just have to go again!"

*busts out laughing at the 'box full of big birds' description*

Thanks Karneopa. I am so glad to hear that they are doing so well. Mama and Papa owl probably be spending most of their time outside the nestbox now that the babies can feed themselves. And if you think they look strange now, wait until they start looking like some kind of prehistoric creatures! Before we know it, they will look like the Mama and Papa and then start hunting on their own... then they will fledge. The grow up so fast.. and I bet Mama and Papa owl are glad they do so they can have their nest back if they want it. *grins*

OW...I've been looking in on them every couple of days. The Tx. owlcam...There's still a post of 5 owls but they are sooooo big that I'm only counting 4. Perhaps one is hiding. The mother and dad don't come in much..Of course there isn't much room in there anymore...lol...It's like looking into a Sesame Street Box of Big Birds!!!! The ones I see..look wonderfully strong and healthy.

8:10 AM PDT:

Owlcam in Benica, CA: Adult Owl movign around more. One of the chicks is heads up in the very corner of the box just beyond the adult owl wing. The chick seems to be preening and also pecking at something onthe floor of the nesting box. One of the other chicks seems to be trying to stand as the adult owl watches.

Owlcam in Texas: One nestling preening, the others seem to have settled down for a midmorning nap.

More if I get time later today.

Owlcam in Benica, CA: Adult Owl is eating some sort of dark meat. As it moves around eating, I can see one egg off to the left and a few chicks. After finishing the food, the owl has herded the chicks and scooted the egg back underneath the feathers and the owl appears to have wedged its body into the corner of the nesting box.

Owlcam in Texas: Three nestlings are visible and appear to be preening.

More if I get time later today.

Owlcam in Benica, CA: Adult Owl preening and I can hear noises that indicate at least two hatchlings are active underneath all those feathers. The owl is standing with its back to the camera so I cannot see too much else.

Owlcam in Texas: The nestlings are very large and appear to be scratching at the bottom of the nesting box with their feet. There are two visible to the camera and both appear to be healthy and active.

Hope this helps!

I am still using the internet via an unstable connection courtesy of somebody close to me who has an unprotected network. Somebody is supposed to be coming out later this afternoon to check the lines but that doesn't necessarily mean that my internet and phone will be working again today.

I am using an older iBook and it doesn't like the script on the barn owl cams. It won't even open the page all the way. Can somebody please tell me how both sets of barn owls are doing? I am going into serious owl withdrawal *sighs*
