Aaaah..old Ra-cha-cha,N.Y.
You don't still live there,do you SM? I have a 43y/o sister w/6 kids there.Wonder if Kodak and 3M are still ,too(hmm...)Too young to remember 'street dances',though I love my memories of 'Block-parties' every summer, when the adults would get a permit from the town and set up bright orange and yellow saw-horses at either end of the street. Oooohh...sweet memories!

And when I have children I'll be saying the same thing for their generation ... they'll have things we never did, but I won't envy them in many situations like my mom told me when I was 15 ... she doesn't envy me one bit with the way things were socially and things that have come out more in the open than when she was my age

How about color tv ? That didn't happen until 1966. In 1965, there was one color program, a western called "The Virginian".

Also, I was at the library about 10 years ago when a kid asked what time it was and the librarian pointed to the clock. And the kid said "Please help me. I don't read analog..." I nearly wet my pants !!!

No worries, I hold my own in this generation. I get the compliment from many people, especially the older ones I work with, at being "so mature" for my age. That there should be more like me 'cause you hardly ever find anyone my age with the same work ethic and "maturity" ... yet my maturity consists of acting like I'm 2 years old sometime just so I can stay sane when things start driving me nuts!!! haha!

Wait ... I got off subject. As always... lol

Actually,I look around me these days and for the most part have to say,"The kids are alright!" S'matter of fact, some of them are downright upright and wiser than a lot of 45-50 year olds I see,(lots of them casualties of the so-called 'permissive' era,circa'68-'81.)So don't let any of us middle age codgers fool 'ya,sister! "What's So Funny 'Bout Peace,Love and Understanding?" -Elvis Costello-

chuckysstaff, I also had 2 kids in the '80's. I flatly refuse to 'grow up', and hubby and I have pledged to grow old DISgracefully. By the way, I made sure the kids knew how to survive the 'old' way and sent them to Guides (Girl Scouts) to learn how to be self reliant etc. It stood them in good stead at Uni and will continue to throughout their lives.

Well, folks, I was thinking last night about how I would "sell" myself at an interview, using the following:

I started working back when there was dictation (shorthand), typewriters (no spellcheck), dial phones and you did math problems with paper and pencil. However, I've advanced into the 21st Century and learned the technology needed for today. (Well, something like that).

But I go even further back to when TV was first introduced, you spoke to an operator when you wanted to make a phone call, and my first record ("Love Me Tender" by Elvis) was a 78 rpm. Talk about feeling old!! But I'm not old in my mind (yet), just my body.

Now see ... I could still survive without all the today stuff! When I was growing up I was one out of 5, money was tight. My parents just got caller ID this past year, I didn't get a PS1 until PS2 came out and even then I was playing on my Nintendo up til then! AND I still grew up, and currently even hear, with the stories from my parents and other older figures in my life and LOVED 'em. Till I heard them too many times hehe :) I'm young but I know how to get along without all the nifty new stuffs...
Just had to stick up for the few in my age range that don't feel as spoiled either lol
