Miu, I know you won't regret it, should this kitty come into your care. You can at least foster her while working to find her the home she deserves, in her golden years.

Without people like you, cats like this too often have difficult and short lives. Bless you for deciding that this is a cat you may be able to help.

The neighbor is just treating the cat as an animal, not one of her family. If it's a 13 year old teenager, I doubt she'll say she's tired of having a cranky human around. Sheesh!

Do foster her if you are unable to keep her. I hope there is a law which says that once we choose to have a companion animal, we are responsible for her for life. Like a child, if abandoned, will entails the strictest punishment of the law!

I have told to a friend of my acquaintance(!) I shall take her if no one else wants her. (I don't want to sound too eager but I don't want to sound reluctant either.) I haven't heard from her for a few days and I don't know when her Mom moves. I am just waiting for a contact.

They just don't get it, do they? If you have a pet, you are responsible for that little creature.

And I am sure there is someone out there for her. The only thing is, this is not the act of a nice friend to Miu. She has a tender heart and the "acquaintance" is using Miu instead of doing the right thing, which is finding a place for that poor unwanted cat.

(Auntie Emma climbs off her soap box huffily.)

And thanks, Betty! How have you been?

By the way, please send your girls to the skating rink. My lads miss them very much!

I agree with you Emma! This poor cat would make a good pet for an elderly person--they could grow old together. A pox on the b*****d who is dumping her!

You might first put up some signs at your vet's office and talk with the shelters, asking if anyone is looking for a very gentle elderly cat. This may be a problem for you to take in another cat in a small space, so first try to find out if there is someone else who can take the cat.

Is it the acquaintance or her mom who is dumping the cat?

It's a shame that someone can't tell the two of them, "At some point, someone is going to get tired of having YOU around!"

People like that really irritate a little old lady such as myself!

Yes, miu, please, at least, try to foster this sweet kitty until you can find her a suitable home where she will be loved and appreciated for the wonderful animal she is. You would never forgive yourself if you turned her away...

I have to agree with everybody else on this one. Foster the kitty until you can find a good home for her. You would feel horrible if you didn't help this sweet little kitty and something bad happened to her.

oh miu, what a dilemma! I have a small one bedroom apt also, with 4 cats. We had 5 originally, and it really wasn't anymore crowded. Do a pro and con list...pros on one side, cons on the other...{{hugs}}

"tired of having a cat around", I really hope that she does not take her because she could then dump her after the move without hope of finding a good home. Take this opportunity and find this baby who has never been loved a good home. Foster if you can...could your Mom take her in for a while?

CBM, that is a great idea about the nursing home. I have seen patients respond to an animal when they responded to absolutely nothing else. You would think that at 13 years old that this kitty might be a very good candidate for that. Especially if she is a lap kitty.

Bless you for considering this elder kitty who needs a home! She is certainly the innocent one in all of this. I hope this little old lady finds a place with you or someone you find for her to spend the rest of her days knowing she is loved.

By all means, foster her. If she fits in to your family, you've gained a baby and saved a life. If she doesn't blend in, you can work on finding her a home and still have saved a life.

At 13, she's not likely to be rescued from a shelter. She's also probably not too rambunctious anymore. Maybe she's a candidate to be the house cat for a nursing home or similar setting. Where my mother-in-law lives, they have a cat in the Alzheimer's unit. It's amazing that these poor people who can't remember how to get dressed, still know how to pet and coo with an animal.

i hate people who get rid of their pets on a whim. didn't they know that it would be a lifelong commitment ??? i absolutely adore my girls and could not imagine a life without them. even now, i don't go to sleep until one of them is on my bed. she is a wonderful sleeping pill (the purring)...

I have an acquaintance whose Mom is moving out of town. She threatens to leave her 13 year old lady tuxie behind because 'she is tired of having a cat around'. I am being asked to take her in. What should I do?

I live in a one-bedroom-apartment (50 square meters) with four cats, I have a part-time job, 5*4 hours/week. I manage but I am not very wealthy. I hate to say NO to an old kitty but I am also worried how she would fit in. I haven't made up my mind yet, a part of me hopes for a different solution, but I am leaning towards taking her in. Opinions?
