I would be coming up with educational/instructional material to ensure compliance with pertinent environmental regulations. Some, I would present in person, some would go in publications.</p> <p>It's a lot like teaching--coming up with lessons, selecting the best way to present, assessing effectiveness, etc. The difference is that I wouldn't be dealing with kids, but adults, and this time, the law would be on MY side! There are lots of examples of resumes online but a good idea is to go to several employment agencies, sign up with them and get some good advice on resume writing. They also have computers for you to update your knowledge on various computer applications. I got into editing thru the back door (hubby). He worked at Xerox at the time and he would bring stuff home for me to proof just for him and he was really impressed and mentioned me to his co-workers. Upshot was I got hired thru a contract house as a proof-reader, no formal training but logic and a flair for the word. I got paid much more than being a travel agent and could work from home as that is where my office was but I spent a lot of time at their place too. It was one of the more rewarding jobs I have had. That hellhole of I job I held for the last 12 weeks is FINALLY OVER!!!! I never have to sit in a room with two violent, ill-medicated kids ever again wondering if this will be the day one of them puts me either in the hospital or in jail!</p> <p>This much I know, that I am through with teaching. There is something insanely wrong when the rights of a violent, mentally-unstable kid to Free Access to Public Education supersedes the rights to a Safe Learning Environment of stable children who actually come to school to learn (not to mention the rights of adult employees to a workplace with a reasonable expectation of safety). Ongoing legal action prevents me from saying anything more.</p> <p>I get paid by the district through August, so I have time to figure out what to do next. I am interested in Technical Writing. Right now, the prospect of being in a cube farm staring at Microsoft Word, surrounded by other adults doing the same task sounds VERY appealing to me. I speak IT, and know how to find answers (or, at least, I can find others who know how to find answers) thanks to my 22 years of marriage to a geek, but I have no formal training in IT. I can edit like nobody's business, but again, it has all been done to help others, not in an official capacity. In short, I can do the job, but I can't prove it.</p> <p>Just to complicate matters more, I can't get the TX Workforce Commission to return my calls. I could really use some help in resume' building, but can't get anyone to talk to me. Very frustrating.</p> <p>Any ideas? I'm open to suggestions.... </p>
