Wow lisa...I can't wait to see a pic of Socks! That's about as close as you can get to a wild cat and still be domesticated. Although your description of his 'schmitars' is pretty wild!! LOL! He sounds easy to love.. :D

Socks will stay there as long as you will. Or he wills. If you try to disentangle yourself before he's ready, he wraps your hand/arm/wrist or whatever with 8 scimitars and the discussion is just over. Can you tell I'm wild about him? He's been a great comfort since I lost my boy cat this past April. Bob was the same way, but a mere 15 pounds. And I thought he was huge. Ha!

I know Marilyn has told me before how Persephone got her name, but I can't remember for certain. I think she came with it, though. In fact, I think all three cats were already named when they got them from the rescue organization. Socks is obvious from his feet. But I will ask her again when I see her on Monday. I sometimes go home with Marilyn for post-group debriefing--we both live within a mile of the office--after our Monday night group, and plan to take my camera this week to snap a photo of the famous Socks.

When Socks sits on you or next to you and purrs, he likes to grab your hand in both paws and hang onto it. Then he closes his eyes and flexes his paws and these inch-long claws go in-out-in-out-in-out. It has a way of keeping you in place. You only leave at his pleasure, unless you can time an escape in the half-second between purrs and flexes. It's a hoot!

Marilyn's cat is a beautiful Maine Coon, purebred with papers, although she got him from a Maine Coon rescue. He's a wonderful lover, and has humongous white feet--ergo his name. He has two "sisters", Emily and Persephone. Emily is very ill.

I'm telling you--Socks has to be see to be believed. I can hardly pick him up. But it's so much fun to have him come and sit on you!!!

Basil is a bit on the big side. He has a passion for potato chips. We had some in the house for the 4th and the morning of the 5th found him with his rear end sticking our of the bag. I couldn't believe a cat would go after potato chips. He had never done it before--then again they aren't in the house that often either.

I had a 28 pound Maine Coon cat and he was perfectly healthy and not roly poly. He was tall, long and had huuuuuge paws. My vet used to joke I would have to register him with the zoo if he got bigger. My vet at the time was a wildlife specialist and also joked that he treated bobcats that were smaller than my cat.

It's so much easier to prevent than to remedy. I doubt if I'll ever get Buttercup down to a normal weight again, and it's because of the excess treats she got years ago. Penny's doing well. I'll never let that happen to one of my cats again.

Well, Chinese aren't the only ones. Vets complain over half of the pets are over weight - just like their humans. Miska is the only one of my kitties with a weight problem but I know I feed them too much. It's my luck they are smarter than I am.

Oh, I notice it's in China, country of animal abuse, and letting this cat get so fat is ANIMAL ABUSE! Even though the owner seems to love this cat it is still wrong--this cat will live to half its normal age.

The cat's weight is like human's: it doesn't tell the amount of muscles nor the fat percent. But you can be pretty sure you recognise a fat person/cat from a muscular one.

I saw a cat on Monday at a relative's home that weighed 18.6 lbs. But it wasn't fat, it was big! His legs and paws were very large and he could run and play just like any other cat. His vet thinks it may be a genetic disorder that made him so big in stature, but he's very healthy at age 7 right now.
