Hey Everyone...finally got back here, again, and I'm happy to report that the little one is doing just fine now. Seems it just needed some encouragement and adjustment.

We just found 2 kittens too (about 7 weeks). I just kept them in the bathroom for the first few days with an open crate, their food and liter box. I would keep it closed at night and opened during the day. I put the liter box in the bathroom too, so it was close and they wouldn't have to be scared and walk out of the bathroom. I also physically put them in the liter box a few times after they ate. It has been 3 days now and no accidents, plus they no longer want to stay in the bathroom!! They are getting used to the crazy house with 3 kids. Funny it has only been 3 days and I can't imagine not having them.
Good luck!

I had to teach Deuter and Nike. I put them in the box and when they used it i buried it--they got back in the box and checked things out. It only took a couple of days and they did fine. They were 2 weeks old at the time.

The Cat Attract is amazing. They should leave a pan of it near the kitten. Bet she gets the idea in no time.

It's a good idea to put the kitten in the litter box after eating. Use a pooper scooper to very gently rake & scrape some litter back & forth; you don't want to scare her. If she scrapes around a bit, and then does her business, after she's done you can praise the heck out of her and pet her.

You can also use a cat litter called Cat Attract; it might help give the appropriate cues to her.

For a newbie being trained it is always a good idea to put them in the litter every so often. Especially after they eat. But Karen is right, it is usually rather instinctual for kittens.
Good luck!

Hi Kathy..So glad to see you posting!! Been missing you. I don't think there's alot to worry about with the kitten and the box. Burying is such a natural instinct that if a box is kept nearby I think the little sweetie will catch on. Others may be able to provide better advise. Glad to see you here! :)
Really sad to hear of the other kittens though. :(

A friend of mine's son found a box with 4 kittens in it that someone had just left on the side of the road. Only one of them was alive and that one is being taken care of. They've said that the poor little girl is about 7wks old and does not know how to use the litter box. Any suggestions on how to get her trained? They don't have anyother furbabies in the house to show the poor little thing. Any and all advise is welcomed, and if you want to you can email me at: brighid52605 at comcast dot net.
Thanks so much, and HI everyone!!!
Kathy
