Excellent idea KYKAT!
And good advice on calling SCH on his behavior.

Ask about a compromise and see about fostering kittens short term for the local shelter. That way you get kitten fun but it is only for a few weeks at a time AND you perform a valuable service.

I am sorry that SCH has gone back to his pattern of behavior, call him on it and remind him that he asked you to stay not the other way around.

Unfortunately, I have to agree that this is not the right time to bring a new one into the home. You don't need to bring in more "fuel" to SCH's "fire." As hard as it is to say no to another kitten, think about the tension in the house that you would be bringing him into.

SCH is back in control.
If you adopt a kitten you give him permission to be mad because he said no.
If you don't adopt he still gets his way.

I am sorry honey, this is all about HIM. It always has been and will be until you figure it out and insist on the appriopriate fixes.

I would not add another infant (furry or otherwise) to this mix. It is not fair to the wee ones.

I want a third kitty very badly, but I have to agree with my husband that two is enough. He does the litter box duty/doody so I give that a lot of extra "votes".

I feel that a third kitty would be wonderful...two gang up on one (hee hee) and I'd love for Hermes to have someone when the time comes that Tansey takes the one-way trip to the vet :-( I remember how lonely Tansey was after we put down her brother.

Even though she 'tolerated' Basil, she obviously missed having another feline. She became very attached to my husband and I, slept with us almost every night, until Hermes entered the house. I think she's happy to have him around. Every time we take our extended vacation in July, the two kitties end up getting closer. More kisses, sniffies, pass-bys with uplifted tails...

As I posted in another thread..the last cat I brought home my hubby didn't talk to me for a week. It was pretty quiet around the house for a week and I spent alot of quality time with the new furbaby. Everyone was happy except my hubby...he was the only one that seemed to have his fur ruffled....lol

I think like Instinct..if you are getting the kitten just to make you happy, it won't work as kitties pick up on your stress and unhappiness. I know that sometimes when I am stressed or unhappy, my kitties won't be that loving. It is only when I seemed relaxed and okay with things that Sylvester shows me lots of love and wants to be in my lap.

I hope you and SCH can go to a counselor especially if he has fallen into his old habits - ignoring you, watching only what he wants on the TV even if you are already watching a movie or program, expects things of you without his giving back, and the worst of all which is not sharing anything with you but being secretive about things.

Steps for adopting kitten:

1. Go to shelter
2. Adopt most pathetic of the kitites
3. Tell husband (whether true or not) that it was on "death-row"...kitty gets immediate "gangsta" points from husband's point of view...
4. Rub tuna juice on husband's ears while sleeping, ensuring kitty kisses galore, and your husband totally melting at kitty's administrations....

hahaha...of course, all above only in good fun! Good luck!

Ooh, this could get me in a lot of trouble.

Good: Two kitties keep each other company
Bad: there's usually a period of adjustment

Good: kittens are a hoot
Bad: kittens get into everything

Good: you want a kitten
Bad: the spousal unit does not

Good: kitties are generally low-maintenance
Bad: more kitties = more food, more vet bills, kitty boxes, more more more.... $$

kinda depends on why, I suppose. If he's about to be gone for an extended time again soon, maybe you have a chance of getting your way. But don't let this get between you and your marriage.

Maybe if he sees a kitty cutie in the right place at the right time, he could change his mind.

I would say it depends on the reason you want a new kitten. It's very easy to say "I want.." but the question is really why do you want?

If it is to try and make yourself happy then it will ultimately fail because you have to make yourself happy, no outside force can give you that.

If it is because you really think the household will benefit someway from having a new furball, then go for it

Ok guys, this is rn4rest if you didn't know of my stage name change. LOL!

I am soooooo wanting to get a new kitten in the worst way. The kids want a new baby also. Of course the so called husband(SCH) says no. But things have fallen back to his standard patterns.

Am I just trying to make myself happy since the SCH is back to his stupidity?

Please let me know what ya'll think. Talk me away from the kitty ledge or right to the humane society.
