I love when the weather gets cooler and I can eat soups and stews. I used to make homemade soups and stews, but I don't do that so much anymore. I should get back to it because I'm sure they are much healthier than canned or frozen types. I also eat nuts for a snack. They are satisfying more than sweets.

Emotions can really yell at you to munch. Try using earplugs. :-) I used to eat cornflakes until I checked out the nutritional information on the pack and saw how much sugar and salt were in them. Horrendous and they don't satisfy that yelling voice either. I'm off to bed now, will check in tomorrow to see if anyone else saw this post.

Oooh that sounds good! I love soup. I make a great spinach lentil that has little fat (and that is optional) and I love to have a cup with lunch and dinner. It's so filling and healthy! Can't wait for soup season!

Now this morning, I have emotional hunger (hate that) as well as physical. Am freezing here in the office so grabbed two individual serving sizes of cornflakes instead of the pop tarts I wanted, and having a cup of lemon water before I start drinking my green tea, then move on to herbals. The cornflakes did not satisfy me. I really want junk food. But again, that's my emotions talking... but boy can they be loud and demanding!

Oh I have the same problem with the nuts and seeds, I've eaten way too many this week but it's so hard trying to stop munching them. I have been toasting sesame and sunflower and pumpkin seeds and sprinkling them on my salads. Sooooo good. During the winter I made a huge pot of soup once a week and froze it in 1 mug full lots. The soup was grated potato(1 only) and grated carrots, an entire bunch of celery finely chopped and sometimes an onion and also buttercup squash grated. Cooked up with pearl barley, red lentils, and yellow and green split peas. For a change I would add a can of tomatoes. I sometimes also cooked boiling bacon and then minced that when cold and added it to the soup for extra flavour. I would have a mug of soup and 2 pieces of grain toast every day for lunch and never got tired of it.

MS - smile... yes, I'm moving from summer to fall/winter... even though I love them, have to admit I'm getting tired of raw veggies... I'm getting that warm, comfort food desire... I made some grilled veggies (in the oven, no grill!) and some meditteranean stew in the crock pot. Lots of veggies.. going to make some quinoa or some other grain to put them over. I do find that the nuts and seeds REALLY fill me up, but I have to measure them out because I can binge on them, and even though they are a "good" fat, too much is too much. Thanks on the congrats and right back at you!

No-Mo, bumping just brings the thread back to the top of the latest discussion list and hopefully it is more likely to be seen and read.
Lainey, I'm pleased my perseverance paid off with bumping, and with my diet change. Congratulations with your weight loss, that is marvellous. I'm in the process of going from a winter diet to a summer one at the moment but so far I haven't felt hungry at all.

This was an awesome article, MS, thank you for sharing it! I started reading it at home and I can't seem to pull it up here at work. I wanted to print it out and also forward it to some people I know. I'm about the same. I think they call it flexatrian. I eat a lot of veggies, fruits, nuts and seeds and when I eat protein it's lean meat and fish and grains are whole grains. I do eat beans and had just started reading about that aspect when I got pulled away with all my fun yesterday. So I definitely want to read more. I, too, have lost over 40 pounds since January, over 100 in total. Have about 70 to go. The important thing is my health is so much better since I started eating this way. I kind of follow Gillian McKeith style from BBC America, You are What You Eat. Glad to know you are doing so well and feeling good!

Thank you, thank you Buttercup. I only found this article yesterday but it is fairly close to what I have changed my diet to, just through reading things and listening to my own body. I've lost over 44 lb since January, with my doctors approval. lots of vegetables, lean meat, wholegrains, nuts and seeds and fruit. I still have the odd treat but don't feel the 'need' for them anywhere as often now.
Now I am content, I won't bump this again. :-)

You can keep some carbs, just replace the overly refined ones like white bread with wholegrain or wholemeal, look for wholemeal pasta too. Basmati rice is great. You can still get your carb fix, and you do need some each day but better carbs.
I did say at least one more person but hey, you're my sister so that doesn't count. (KK is on the train now so I'm safe for a while).

A very interesting article on how we eat and how we could/should eat. I have followed most of this diet type since the beginning of the year and have to agree with the writer. I changed my eating habits to become healthier and lose weight which I have done. This is the first time I have seen this article and was pleased to see I have made some good choices.
