KW, CBM & 2P gave you some great advice as far as taking care of your new kitten! I'd echo 2P's thoughts; this kitten has probably never spent time away from her littermates and mama. It's only natural that she'd be anxious; the calling she's doing is most likely to seek out her mama & littermates.

If you can, see if you can make her a smaller place to sleep, that's warm and cushy and fuzzy. It will be more like sleeping with her littermates. The inside of a cat carrier, or even a shoebox, will often suffice; line it with a warm towel or so, and that should help.

Reassure her if she cries. Make sure she's eating, drinking, peeing, and pooping properly. It's not too soon for her to visit the vet; she'll need shots, even if she's already been wormed.

Welcome to TDK Beanie. You have already received some good advice. I agree with cheetah and 2p.
Naming of kittens: Try reading TS Eliots Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats - you can get some really good ideas from that. The musical "Cats" was based on that poem.
You are in the right place to get some great advice.
Let us know more about your kitty.
Peace, hugs and purrs.

I'm not an expert, others who know more will most likely be along later, but from what I have gathered from being on this site for a while is:

Kitty probably misses littermates and mommy. A 2nd kitty, or a stuff animal for her to cuddle next to, snuggle with would help. Keep her warm - a heating pad set on low, and covered with a towel for her to be near would help. And most importantly, a trip to the vet.

Name - give it a little time until you sense her personality. Grey and white could conjure names like Smoky, Cloud, depending on where the white is - Mittens. It will take a little time - and that's ok.

And welcome !!!

Thanks Cheetahboysmommy... we were typing at the same time I think. You were much more detailed !

Where do your co-worker get the kitten? If it was from her house, she could tell you what the little girl had been eating. If she just found it somewhere, you won't be able to get a history on her.

VERY IMPORTANT - Do not feed the little one cow's milk. She would probably gobble it down, but it's not good for cats. If it's milk she's after, get KRM (kitten replacement milk) at a pet store.

Assuming there's nothing physically wrong with her, she's meowing because she's scared, lonely, missing her mom, cold, bored, or some combination of these problems. If she's really 8 weeks old, she should be able to play with a feather (you hold it) or piece of string (hold it, don't let her have it without supervision). Or she might like chasing a little ball or a bottle cap. Kittens will try to play with or eat almost anything so Q-tips, twist ties, soft plastic and similar things aren't good toys.

Does she have a safe place to be? Kittens like to have some sort of enclosure to sleep in and they are often more comfortable with a ceiling. Try an upside down box with a hole in the side and towels on the floor. Or a cat carrier with the door removed.

Is she using the sandbox? If she's too young, she may not be going by herself. If she's not peeing and pooping on her own, let us know ASAP and we'll help you help her.

If you think she's just lonely, try giving her a small stuffed toy to cuddle with. Make sure it doesn't have eyes that can be chewed off, ribbons around it's neck, etc. You can also put a hot water bottle or microwaved sock of rice under her bed. Don't use a heating pad unless it has very low heat and can be securely wrapped so she won't get burned and can't get to it to chew.

Hi, Beanie. Welcome to the Daily Kitten! Do you know if your kitten was still nursing from her mom when you got her? Are you feeding her the same food she ate while with your co-worker? Is she using the litter box appropriately?

The first thing I would do is take her to the vet for a check-up. The vet can estimate her age pretty accurately and will be able to assess her overall health. She will need to be tested for feline diseases and get shots. You can also ask the vet when she would be able to be spayed.

Tell us more about your new baby girl so we can suggest names. What color is she? Is she pretty active or more of a laid back kitty?

So last night my co-worker had a kitten in her car that she needed to get rid of. It's a baby girl who is gray and white. I feed her and then tried to go to bed but she has not stopped meowing since. I think she might be bored and most likely scared. She said she is eight weeks old but is very tiny and cam from a litter of 7-10. She doesn't have fleas or worms. Any advice? Name suggestions would be nice too! Thanks
