Happy Pre-Valentine's Day to my littermates. The kits have the lounge decorated in red and pink hearts. They even have heart shaped lights hanging from the fireplace mantel. Its a laid back night at the NS, just snacks and treats for valentines, heart shaped cookies, heart shaped cupcakes, heart shaped pizza, you name it.

Tuxies are at your service. Please say hello. I am gonna kick back and watch "The Voice", my new favorite show. How is everyone?

The cafe is bright and cheery and ready to take on a Monday! Kittehs are setting up an incredible buffet of pastries, fruit, cereal and everything in between, checking to make sure hot and cold fountains are flowing purrfectly, and griddles and grills are hot and ready for your custom order. Various aromas are wafting out from the kitchen - some hot extra big and gooey cinnamon buns are just about ready. Tux has ensured, as always, that every detail of the cafe is in order.
Welcome!

Hey all. I am being sent to Delaware in March for training and will have a day off and I am wanting to go and see the Smithsonian (well at least part of it) So if anyone would like to join me in walking around a museum or just for dinner I would be super psyched to meet other TDKer's in the area. I am thinking that this will be March 11, but I am not sure yet. I will give updates as I know info.

My sweet big baby Ruggles has a new obsession: any piece of cloth is a potential "blankie." A "blankie" is some sort of fabric thingie that he can cuddle into, lie upon, rub his head against and croon songs to it.

I found this out this morning when I came downstairs to find him shredding a dish towel while making "muffins" with his big fluffy paws. He was purring and wheezing with delight and rolling around the kitchen table, eyes squeezed shut in some sort of feline bliss.

Early this morning I had an ahh...moment with my cats. I woke up around 4 a.m. (needing a trip to the bathroom). As I started to get out of bed, I noticed both my cats sleeping next to each other. Now, my cats do not like to be next to each other, something I always wished they would eventually do but never have. I didn't want to disturb them, but I really needed to move. It was just an "ahhh moment" that you just know is special.

Tell me your "ahhh moment" with your cats or kittens.

After the tragic loss of almost one year old Luigi on tuesday, my adult son would like to get another kitten but is gun shy. Luigi was adopted from a shelter at 6 months of age and seemed healthy until shorttly after when he developed a problem with one of his eyes. This escalated into more problems with lameness and then it affected his brain and he had to be sent to heaven. I understand that FIP is not that common but more common in shelter cats. I am curious to hear from others who have dealt with this and some reasurrance that most of your kittens and cats are healthy and we will not have to go through a tragic loss like this again. Thoughts, advice depserately needed. Thanks.

Today is Monday, Feb. 13, the 44th day of 2012. There are 322 days left in the year.
Today's Highlight in History:
On Feb. 13, 1861, Abraham Lincoln was officially declared winner of the 1860 presidential election as electors cast their ballots.
On this date:
In 1542, the fifth wife of England's King Henry VIII, Catherine Howard, was executed for adultery.
In 1741, Andrew Bradford of Pennsylvania published the first American magazine. "The American Magazine, or A Monthly View of the Political State of the British Colonies" lasted three issues.
In 1914, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, known as ASCAP, was founded in New York.
In 1920, the League of Nations recognized the perpetual neutrality of Switzerland.
In 1935, a jury in Flemington, N.J. found Bruno Richard Hauptmann guilty of first-degree murder in the kidnap-slaying of the son of Charles and Anne Lindbergh. (Hauptmann was later executed.)
In 1945, during World War II, Allied planes began bombing the German city of Dresden. The Soviets captured Budapest, Hungary, from the Germans.
In 1960, France exploded its first atomic bomb in the Sahara Desert.
In 1961, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York announced that three statues in its collection, supposedly Etruscan terra cotta warriors, were, in fact, forgeries.
In 1972, the 11th Winter Olympics ended in Sapporo, Japan.
In 1980, the 13th Winter Olympics opened in Lake Placid, N.Y.
In 1988, the 15th winter Olympics opened in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
In 1991, during Operation Desert Storm, allied warplanes destroyed an underground shelter in Baghdad that had been identified as a military command center; Iraqi officials said 500 civilians were killed.
Ten years ago: John Walker Lindh pleaded not guilty in federal court in Alexandria, Va., to conspiring to kill Americans and supporting the Taliban and terrorist organizations. (Lindh later pleaded guilty to lesser offenses and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.) Britain's Queen Elizabeth II made former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani an honorary knight. Country singer Waylon Jennings died in Chandler, Ariz., at age 64.
Five years ago: Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney officially entered the 2008 presidential race in Michigan, the place of his birth. With Democrats in control, House members debated Iraq in an emotional and historic faceoff over a war that Speaker Nancy Pelosi condemned as a commitment with "no end in sight."
One year ago: Egypt's military leaders dissolved parliament, suspended the constitution and promised elections in moves cautiously welcomed by protesters who'd helped topple President Hosni Mubarak. Lady Antebellum was the big winner at the Grammys with five awards, including record and song of the year for the band's yearning crossover ballad "Need You Now," but rockers Arcade Fire won the biggest prize, album of the year, for their highly acclaimed "The Suburbs."
Today's Birthdays: Former test pilot Charles E. "Chuck" Yeager is 89. Actress Kim Novak is 79. Actor George Segal is 78. Actress Carol Lynley is 70. Singer-musician Peter Tork (The Monkees) is 70. Actress Stockard Channing is 68. Talk show host Jerry Springer is 68. Actor Bo Svenson is 68. Singer Peter Gabriel is 62. Actor David Naughton is 61. Rock musician Peter Hook is 56. Actor Matt Salinger is 52. Singer Henry Rollins is 51. Actor Neal McDonough is 46. Singer Freedom Williams is 46. Actress Kelly Hu is 44. Rock musician Todd Harrell (3 Doors Down) is 40. Singer Robbie Williams is 38. Rhythm-and-blues performer Natalie Stewart is 33. Actress Mena Suvari (MEE'-nuh soo-VAHR'-ee) is 33.
Thought for Today: "An explanation of cause is not a justification by reason." — C.S. Lewis, English author (1898-1963).

I think he is a pretty sensible Dad and he has taught his daughter more than one important lesson which it looks like she has understood.

Oh yes, it was the dog's fault!

I don't know how many of you are aware of this, but our SM is having surgery today. Yesterday was an icky day for her as she had to do the awful prep all day. Would all of you please keep SM in your thoughts and prayers today and send that white light streaking towards New Mexico?

SM, I am praying soooo hard for a good report on the biopsy!

Lots and lots and lots of hugs.

Today is Sunday, Feb. 12, the 43rd day of 2012. There are 323 days left in the year.

Today's Highlight in History:

On Feb. 12, 1809, Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States, was born in present-day Larue County, Ky.

On this date:

In 1554, Lady Jane Grey, who'd claimed the throne of England for nine days, and her husband, Guildford Dudley, were beheaded after being condemned for high treason.

In 1795, the University of North Carolina became the first U.S. state university to admit students with the arrival of Hinton James.

In 1818, Chile officially proclaimed its independence, more than seven years after initially renouncing Spanish rule.

In 1908, the first round-the-world automobile race began in New York. (It ended in Paris the following July with the drivers of the American car, a Thomas Flyer, declared the winners over teams from Germany and Italy.)

In 1909, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People was founded.

In 1912, Pu Yi (poo yee), the last emperor of China, abdicated, marking the end of the Qing Dynasty.

In 1915, the cornerstone for the Lincoln Memorial was laid in Washington, D.C., a year to the day after groundbreaking.

In 1940, the radio play "The Adventures of Superman" debuted with Bud Collyer as the Man of Steel.

In 1942, painter Grant Wood, creator of "American Gothic," died in Iowa City, Iowa, a day before his 51st birthday.

In 1959, the redesigned Lincoln penny — with an image of the Lincoln Memorial replacing two ears of wheat on the reverse side — went into circulation.

In 1973, Operation Homecoming began as the first release of American prisoners of war from the Vietnam conflict took place.

In 1999, the Senate voted to acquit President Bill Clinton of perjury and obstruction of justice.

Ten years ago: Former Enron chairman Kenneth Lay expressed "profound sadness" about the collapse of the energy giant, but refused to testify at a Senate hearing. Former Yugoslav president Slobodan Milosevic (sloh-BOH'-dahn mee-LOH'-shuh-vich) went on trial in The Hague, accused of war crimes (he died in 2006 before the trial could conclude). Pakistan charged three men in connection with the kidnapping of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl in Karachi (they and a fourth man were later convicted of Pearl's murder). An Iranian passenger jet crashed, killing all 119 on board. "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" received 13 Academy Award nominations; tied for second with eight nods were "A Beautiful Mind" and "Moulin Rouge!"

Five years ago: Teen gunman Sulejman Talovic (SOO'-lay-mahn TAHL'-oh-vitch) shot nine people, killing five, at a Salt Lake City mall before he was shot and killed by police. Car bombs shattered Baghdad's oldest and largest market, killing at least 78 people.

One year ago: Thousands of Algerians defied government warnings and dodged barricades in their capital, demanding democratic reforms; demonstrations continued in Yemen as well. Death claimed actress Betty Garrett, 91, and actor Kenneth Mars, 75.

Today's Birthdays: Movie director Franco Zeffirelli is 89. Actor Louis Zorich is 88. Baseball Hall-of-Fame sportscaster Joe Garagiola is 86. Former Sen. Arlen Specter, D-Pa., is 82.
Thought for Today: "Men make history and not the other way around. In periods where there is no leadership, society stands still." — President Harry S. Truman (1884-1972).

For the past few mornings, we've woken up to our little foster kitten (approx 12 weeks) licking our faces! I then promptly place her off the bed. Our other cats didn't do this. What does she want? Her furmommy got adopted a month ago but it didn't start until this week.

She really needs to go to her furever home. They are missing all the cute kitten moments! Stupid URI! They can't spay her because of the URI.

Hi
I have been using fresh step...extreme odor control...litter. (my cat's previous owner gave me all his things which included an omega paw litter box and the litter.
Well I have noticed lately that this very strong smell from the litter is on my cat and was wondering if anyone uses this type of litter and if anyone knows if this could hurt my cat in any way. Thank you

This morning Phillip decided it was cuddle time and layed on my chest and purred like crazy. So, of course, I took a video of it to share:

He is my loudest purrer right now, and an all around great cat

Kittenmaster, I need your help. I had created a TDK account as "willtoway" about a 2 years ago. Recently when I returned to TDK I somehow wasn't able to retrieve my password despite many attempts. Therefore I opened a new account as "onlinebuddy." Yesterday I tried searching for my previous posts as willtoway and I found them. I tried retrieving my willtoway password and it worked. So now I have two TDK login names: willtoway and onlinebuddy. Can I combine the posts from both under my current login name i.e. onlinebuddy?
