Good morning!

Some of the kittehs partied WAY too hard last night! I see kittehs with ice packs on their heads, kittehs sprawled out on the couches and floor, others laying on their backs with all four feet in the air, snoring softly... and strings of green beads -everywhere-!

The chef kittehs will have to work at it to whip these serving kittehs into shape this morning!

Lots of hot coffee, fresh doughnuts (cake and yeast), fresh pastries, and a big sausage egg casserole are ready, with more food on the way!

Well in continuation of the celebration of St. Patrick's Day we have corn beef and cabbage special. Of course there are a variety of foods--you name it and I am sure the Kitteh Chefs can prepare it! The fountains are flowing with green beer! I prefer the champagne fountain myself!

Mojo on "A Kafka-esque nightmare"

I've been caught in nightmare out of a Kafka novel since last Saturday morning, when I returned to Costa Rica, eager to greet my kitties after spending two weeks away in California, securing an apartment and a car. Customs informed me I wasn't allowed to enter the country. They said I'd been deported! This erroneous charge came as a complete shock. I was already exhausted from a red-eye flight from Denver, and had been traveling nearly 24 hours from SF. They wouldn't even let me call my attorney. They put me on a plane back to Denver, where I have been since, in a hotel. I contacted my Costa Rican attorney six hours later, from the Denver Airport. He's been working on the case since Monday. So far, no result. I'm beginning to think I'm going to have to repatriate my cats and possessions without ever setting foot in Costa Rica (CR) again. My attorney initiated a legal action against Immigration yesterday, and says we're supposed to get a definitive judgment in 48 hours. Meanwhile I've decided that Friday afternoon, if I don't have official permission to enter CR, I'm flying back to California to start getting furniture into my new apartment. Meanwhile I'm contacting pet transport companies to see how I can get my cats to SF within the next week. They must be stressed out. They have been fed twice a day by a neighbor's maid, but she's not a cat person, and they are surely starting to feel abandoned. So, it looks like they may have to travel cargo whether I want to or not, because I believe that is how most pet transport companies do it. I am not sure about that, but will ask when I get my quote. I don't know, I haven' decided what to do yet, I'm stressed, I'm frazzled, I'm infuriated, scared...In short, I'm experiencing what most victims of serious crimes experience: sleeplessness, difficulty concentrating, feelings of acute aloneness...I've never been through anything like this in my life.

I'm sorry I ever entered that godforsaken country.

I'm still waiting until Friday morning. That is the last time at which we can reasonably expect to get a clear answer to my attorney's legal actions. Or, rather, if we don't have a clear answer by then, it could be weeks or months before getting an answer. But I have to be out in March, as that is my last month's paid rent. If there is no clear answer by Friday, I will have to get busy getting my property back without my going there. Assuming I have to do that, I have a friend there who can help me, but I'm not sure I want my cats there during the whole process of him being in my apartment packing up my stuff. They are already going to be stressed, and I think it will stress them even more to have this strange guy - well, they sort of "know" him, he's been to my place a fair number of times, but still, they are shy cats - in my place, disassembling their familiar home. The move itself will inevitably be stressful enough. But he's not a cat person either, and asking him to foster my cats while asking him to do all this other stuff too -- including wire transfering bank funds to my US bank and boxing and flying with my stuff to SF -- is asking a bit much.

So I'm rambling. But I need to, to think clearly. Does anyone know how pet transport companies usually work? Do some of them fly with the cats in the regular cabin? One possibility is that Rob could get an apartment and then move the cats over there temporarily while he boxes up my stuff in my apartment. I think he's been planning to get an apartment in March anyway because before I left he said he wanted to buy some of my big furniture, so he's evidently planning to find a place in March, because he knows my plan was to be out of CR by mid March. NOW I can't be out of there soon enough.

What does Frontline flea medicine smell like? Does it have the same strong chemical smell as Advantage?

I Advantaged my little ones a month ago, and Lucy was fine with it, but Augie was SO bothered by the smell. He sulked and looked miserable for about 8 hours.

I hate it, but my kittens are going to have to have flea medicine living in this neighborhood or we'll be infested. They're due for another treatment tomorrow and I just found a flea on Augie.

The reason I'm asking is that I don't want to waste the doses of Advantage I already have if Frontline's gonna smell just as bad to Augie.

Also, has anyone tried or does anyone have any information about the brewer's yeast remedy (put 1 tsp brewer's yeast in the cat's food per day to prevent fleas)? If it's safe and it works it might be a good option for me (and it'd be a lot cheaper than Frontline), but I'm a little wary of folk remedies.

Thank You!

Well, it's official. The US, the UK and NZ are in a recession. I know that lots of us are dealing with financial difficulties...some much more than others. But I bet that most of us are tightening up the purse strings. I thought it might be helpful (and fun!) to have a corner where we can post some of our favorite budget-friendly tips and ideas. Do you have energy-saving advice? Maybe a low-cost recipe? Any frugal tips involving pets? Post them here!

I will start it off with the latest Wal Mart freebies. The forms are very quick and easy to fill out and the products always arrive...and NO spam afterward! New offers are usually added every few days. For the freebies that you can't personally use, there is always a pet shelter that will accept the pet freebies and a women's shelter than will accept freebie baby products.

I was reading a book on cat stories, and this one just made me happy:

A man fell out of a wheelchair, and got seriously injured and I think it said he was unconsience (sorry if misspelled). Then his CAT called 911 and saved his live. The man said he had trained the cat to call 911, but he said that the cat would seem to never listen to the training. Then the police came over to save the man and saw his cat lying on the floor next to the phone.

I hope you enjoyed this nice story as much as I did.

Hi all...

Lainey checking in. I've been really, really sick. Lost 8lbs since Friday (not that I'm complaining, but, well, would've been better to do it right). Anyway, just stopped by to say hi and let you know I miss everyone. I just cannot catch up, but glanced at thread titles and Happy Birthday to MC and CBM and Penny and anyone else I missed. Prayers to all who asked and need them (and prayers for those who don't ask, too!). Know I think of this family daily and keep everyone in my morning and evening prayers. You all got me through so much this last year, I don't know what I would have done without you. I hope to be back SOON. I go back to work again tomorrow and my nights and weekends are jammed trying to clean my dad's house, go through Sandy's stuff AND start cleaning MY house again, I don't know when I'll be back and still gotta rest as I'm only about 50 percent of my usual self. Know I love you all and miss this family very much. Hope to be back SOON.

Love,
Lainey
