  1. I was wondering how everyone came up with their kitties names!

Feeny is named after Georg Feeny, the principal, from Boy Meets World. We found him an inspirational character and wise like Feeny was.

I'm not sure exactly how we got Taco's name. We were tossing around a lot of names. We wanted something not common for kitties, yet cute and with personality and it was what we ended up with.

  2. Hi Gini. I named my 2 twin lynx point siameses Samson and Delilah,I was looking for a pair or names and that's what I came up with. Abby I named initially Gabby because she is so talkative. I named one of my cats Nadine but it never stuck so due to her small size I renamed her Bitty. I named my red kitten Chester because it's a favorite name of mine. Dusty is rust colored and kind of messy (nicknamed Pigpen).

  3. Fred is named for Fred Astaire, when he was a kitten, he was very tall and had really long legs, he was my mother's cat so she named him after Fred Astaire.
Cricket, I searched for names for her for about 3 days and I came across the name Cricket and she had long back legs and it fit.

  4. Lady came pre-named, and we just never changed it.:D

  5. Maxie's was kind of an assembling of things! His full name is Congocoon's King Maximus Grandma's One-In-A-Million!

    Okay Congocoon's = cattery name
King = two reasons king of cats and father and Maternal great grandfather was also a king so hr was predestined for greatess and of course man man in my life so thats how king came about!

Maximus = Wanted a strong soldier name of old and mom said I should name hime maxamillion not a name i liked though I loved Max but couldn't just be max, so I was watching a movie Gladiator and was like that's it Maximus! Plus Max means big too hehehe!

Grandma's -one-in-a-million is two fold to fill the a mllion from Max for grandma plus grandma said it was her only grand son so Grandma's one is a million for a male grandbaby since hse has 5 granddaughters and my sibling's are done!

  6. My Willow was found in a desert willow tree in our back yard. She had a broken leg and was about five weeks old.

Our Windi, who we knew was a litter mate but we had trouble catching, came to us about four months later. She was starving and on the street and so was willing to come up to us for food. It was a very windy night and we live on a street that is Windridge and so.... Windi.

  7. Cats who have owned me:

Elsa: for the lioness in Born Free, which we had just seen before we got her

Misty: She was a gray tabby--like a mist
Kristy: Rhymed with Misty--yes, they were sisters

Rascal: She was a rascal of a kitten!

Nermal: He was gray and "the world's CUTEST kitten," just like Garfield's nemesis.

Melveen: For Melveen Leed, a local celebrity in Honolulu, where we got the kitten.

Missy: Was "Misty" when we adopted her, but since I'd already had a Misty in my life before, we changed it.

Moppet and Mittens: again, sisters. We were on a Beatrix Potter kick when we adopted them (Moppet and Mittens were the sisters of Tom Kitten).

Bootsie and Stubby: named by their previous owner

Lavender and Callie: named by Ladybug. Only she knows why.

Tabs: a gray tabby feral who shows up at mealtime. Tabs is short for tabby

Taco: a gray tabby feral kitten who was loved greatly in his short life. I don't remember how we came up with his name.

Linus and Lucy: brother and sister. We love Peanuts!

Baby Sally Semi-Meezer: Baby Sally, in keeping with the Peanuts theme. Semi-Meezer from her Burmese ancestry.

Louie: another gray tabby feral. He looks so much like Lucy that for several weeks, we thought it WAS the missing Lucy. Then he rolled over on his back one day and PROVED he wasn't Lucy!

  8. When I adopted Max and Molly, they had been named by their previous owner, but I didn't like the names Milton and Morgan. Too fussy, and I didn't think the kitties responded to the names. So, I renamed them, sticking with the "M's", and the names seem to fit them quite well. LV, "Max" may mean big and strong, but not my Maxie. He's slender, sleek, and faster than a speeding bullet when he wants to be. Molly is heavier, a little slower, and loves to sleep. Sometimes I call her "Miss Piggy".

  9. My three brats are:

Daisy... I thought of her name when I was watching TV and that commercial for Daisy Sour Cream came on and that jingle got stuck in my head, lol... "It starts with a spoon and a dollop, a dollop of Daiii-syyy" lol! Her original name was "Mo" but she was a bottle-fed baby and they named the kittens in the litter so they could keep track of who was who, and who got fed when. So when I first saw her and decided to take her home, I still had to wait a couple weeks before she was ready to go, and the lady I got her from told me to call her and tell her if I think of a new name, cuz then they would start calling her that so she would get used to hearing it! And it worked :)

Salty... It was actually a friend of mine that helped me think of his name. I knew I was getting him in a few days, and he's black. I didn't want to name him "Blacky" or "Midnight" or something predictable (which is why I didn't name Daisy "Cali" even though she's a calico, like my then-bf wanted me to... but I digress) And she was all "Call him 'Whitey' or 'Saltine.'" and I was like, uhhh, noooo, but I could go with "Salty" so that's how his came to be :)

Gabby... Well, she is a Tabby, and lol, it's kinda silly, but my fiancee and I talk baby talk to each other sometimes, and he always wanted a tabby kitty. But when we'd talk about it, we'd talk about getting a "gabby-kitteh" (imagine being spoken in a baby talk, lol) anyway, when we were talking about what we were going to name the "gabby-kitteh" I'm like, ummm, how about Gabby? lol so that kind of stuck! Of course the name fits her, though... she grew into the name cuz she IS so talkative! :)

  10. Squasha was originally named Tasha (the name I was obsessed with when I was twelve). I guess my older sister didn't like the name and started calling her "Squasha" instead. Soon, everyone was calling her that and it just stuck.
Mr. Toes is so named because he's a polydactyl.

  11. I had a kitty named Tasha also. We got her name from STNG Tasha Yar. I'm such a geek. :)

  12. Shadow is a black smoke colored kitty, and came pre-named..she was already so neurotic when we got her I was afraid to change it and confuse her even more!
Linus is our buff colored boy..he used to like to suckle on blankets, which reminded me of the Peanuts character!
Buster is our disabled kitty, and we wanted to give him a name that sounded "tough"..so we came up with Buster Beans, Buster or Buzz....!

  13. Cats who have owned me:
Hootie -- Hootie and the Blowfish
Sammy -- after his papa BalSAMo
Oliver -- after the movie Oliver and Company

  14. Smudge was named by her previous owner. It was for the orange colored smudge on her face. She knows her name well and will turn to me when I say her name.

Chance was named when I adopted him from an animal care agency. I was asked if I was keeping his name (they had told me he knew it) and I decided that it fit him and kept it.

  15. I like the name Chance, LK.

  16. I'm so glad everyone is sharing! I love hearing these stories of where the names come from

  17. I think cat names are interesting and they always seem to fit the cat as you get to know their personality.

  18. My George already had his name when I got him from the shelter, and he was almost a year old so we decided to keep it. Plus, it was my husband's father's name, as well as his older brother and a nephew. None of those people are with us anymore, but now there's a George in the family again!

  19. Some of the cats in my family looked alot like todays kitten - gray w/ black stripes or a gray/lighter gray stripes and I was young - these were always my cats and all seemed to end up with the same name - Tiger. My mom had one named Kahlua -all black with red undertones. My sister had a family of torties -Mama Kitty (obviously fit her names) and her two daughters - Sheba - such a beautiful Queen!, and then the other daughter was named Spider Monkey - Spider was a poly - and just about the oddest looking cat but so loving. We also had a Savage Sam - attacked feet if you were barefoot.
The two current visitor cats - Buddy is so named because he just wants to be everyones friend, and Leela is named from some show my son watches - some one may recognize it because of her name but I don't know the name of the show.

  20. At the shelter, the kitten's name was Lacy. When we adopted her, we re-named her Leela, after the one eyed alien in "Futurama". We like unusual names/spelling.
Jiggs' name came to us on the ride home from the tatoo place we got him from. We passed a bar called Jiggs' Corner.
The little grey kitten went several days in our home without a name - nothing seemed to fit. When he became obsessed with his shadow, we went with that, but I wanted to spell it differently, thus, Shaddo.
Smokie just seemed to fit the little long haired black kitten with the big tail that went on forever.
Taz was named after the tazmanian devil, not the cartoon character. She was wild, black, crazy and a carnivore.
My brother's cat Aja was named after a Steely Dan record. His current kitty Kes, is named after a Star Trek character.

  21. Joan, that's the character our Leela is named after - our Leela is one eyed and I remember John telling me she was named after a one eyed character on one of his favorite shows.

Posted 1 year ago by KarenCentennial #

  22. Really??? Cool! Did I tell you Leela attacked moving things under bedsheets the first week we got her and I wound up with a black eye (she nicked my eyelid with one of those razor-sharp baby claws)! Trying to make me her namesake, apparently! We would like to get her a buddy in the spring and I would really like another long-hair. If he's orange, we'll name him Fry!

  23. I love reading about how all these TDK kitty names were arrived at, especially since I am currently catless. Am I living vicariously? I find it interesting that both times Taco was the kitty's name, their people couldn't really say why.... I propose it is because the kitties selected their name.

Posted 1 year ago by krazikat #

  24. Better your eyelid - i actually had my eye scratched by one of our kittens when i was 15 - they are just so fast and it seems like the claws are always out when they are young. i had to wear an eyepatch for about 3 weeks - talk about attractive - i'm glad i already had a boyfriend and didn't think it was the end of the world!

Posted 1 year ago by KarenCentennial #

  25. The name Taco does roll off the tongue rather nicely! I am enjoying everyone's stories too.

  26. Ouch, Karen! I was glad that the bleeding stopped quickly and a trip down the mountain the the ER wasn't necessary. I giggled at the thought of being the one in the ER who got beat up by a 3 month old kitten!

Posted 1 year ago by JoanfromNewJersey #

  27. Well, BooBoo has been with us since the day she was born...as the runt of the litter she wobbled for a much longer time than the other kittens, since she was always falling, we named her BooBoo...
Blackbeard as you can see has a black beard and acts like a pirate. He loves to commendear any loose dollar bills from my purse...
Betty, she has the legs of Betty Paige, the eyes of Betty Davis and as cute as Betty Boop!

  28. names of our kitties:
Cupid - he was adopted on Feb. 14th by my in-laws and that is what they named him.
Tigger - because she sometimes appears to have a spring in her backside, you put her down and she jumps right back to where you removed her from.
Izzy - Jason Isringhausen St. Louis Cardinals pitcher.
Stubby Louise - she was born with a stub tail, thus Stubby and Louise because she needed a girls name.

  29. Stubby's Momma, we had a dog named Stubby about 30 years ago and everytime I see your name, I smile, it brings back good memories about my puppy. He passed when I was 10.

Posted 1 year ago by cricketsmama #

  30. Tigger...love how she got her name!!! I can just picture her springing right back on a chair or countertop..
