  1. The Pflugerville Pfestival of Bands will be this Monday night from 7-9 at the Connally High stadium. Bands from all 4 PISD middle schools (including Bear's), all three High Schools and Texas State University will perform. Best of all, it's PFREE!

  12. Sorry, ya'll I have "stuff" going on. I'll try to explain...

My odd little scrap of a family-of-origin--what's left of it--is my mom, my aunt Nina, and her longtime boyfriend (37 years) Herman. Herman is my functional grandfather, even though he's not a blood relation. Herman is extremely ill. He has a type of leukemia that kills platelets.

He's in ICU, and possibly won't come home. I'm on the phone constantly with Mom, Nina, and Herman's blood family. If he gets much worse, I'll be leaving for Texarkana, Mom says Nina needs me, and I deny Nina nothing. She would lay down on the railroad tracks for me. Nina had a twin who passed from brain cancer while I was in college, and Herman came along just in time to save her sanity. He is a hero to all of us.

  14. paragrapfh?

Serioulsly, Lisa, if you can make it, call me--you have my number. In any event, Herman is in my prayers. I am sorry your family is going through this.

  16. Thanks, ya'll. We just got a crumb of good news. Herman's regular oncologist pfinally showed up. He had been out of pocket. He thinks Herman can handle one more round of chemotherapy, and is guardedly optimistic that this will stop his bleeding and he'll get to come home one more time. This made him and my aunt Nina super happy. This guy has beaten crushing childhood poverty, and two other kinds of cancer. Heck, maybe he'll rally one more time. I honestly won't be suprised if he does.

  24. Lol, CW, yes, a spring chicken, and let's hope the spring goes back into his step, Lisa, he sounds like an amazing man.

  25. Herman is certainly going through a lot physically, but so are the rest of you. Lisa please extend my prayers to your family, may they be blessed with peace and comfort during this time of great stress. Prayers for Herman to rebound and respond to the next course of treatment. Being close as a family is such a blessing at times like this.

  26. I was just telling Emma, Herman comes from a family of people who live very long lives. I actually knew his father and grandfather when I was a kid!!!
