Mom had a small cataract removed two weeks ago but has had a lot of pain and scratchiness in her eye ever since. She is afraid that she has gotten an infection in it something that could be a problem because of her knee surgery also. She is going back to the Dr. tomorrow so I am asking for prayer that the Dr. figures out the problem and that it can be easily solved. Thanks Sandi

I know my Mum will sympathise again Sandi, she had cataract surgery on both eyes earlier this year, and the second one was pretty itchy and bothersome. Hopefully she hasn't got an infection, or if she has it's easily treated. {{hugs}} from this side of the pond!

She has something called fuchs distery in her eye. I don't quite understand it I have to look it up, yet but it made her cornea thinner and they accidently poked a hole in it. The Dr. gave her some drops and oinment to use so hopefully she is more comfortable. I've decided old age ain't for sissies. :)

Hi Sandi,sorry to hear about your Mom's eye,I've been looking at Fuchs' Dystrophy. I hope this helps.
Fuch’s dystrophy
Fuch’s dystrophy is the gradual deterioration of endothelial cells for no apparent reason. As these cells thin over time, the cornea is less capable of removing water form the stroma, causing it to swell and distort vision. Haze and small blisters on the corneal surface may also appear.
Fuch’s dystrophy is the gradual deterioration of endothelial cells for no apparent reason. As these cells thin over time, the cornea is less capable of removing water form the stroma, causing it to swell and distort vision. Haze and small blisters on the corneal surface may also appear.
As a slowly progressing disease, signs of Fuch’s dystrophy begin to appear in people 30 to 40 years old; however, the disease doesn’t normally affect vision until about 20 years later. It is more common in women than men.
An early sign of Fuch’s dystrophy includes awakening with blurred vision that gradually clears up during the day. As the disease worsens, swelling becomes more consistent and vision blurs.
Treatment includes:
Ointments
Soft contact lenses
Drying of blisters with a hair dryer two or three times per day

Thanks, Buttercup. Scarey question is it hereditary?

It seems it is an inherited eye disease,you have a chance of inheriting this since your Mom has it. If I were you I'd call my doctor and also ask your Mother's treating eye doctor what to do. There are varying degrees of severity,some people have very mild cases. The symptoms usually occur later in life.Here's some more resources Sandy. [[Hugs]]

Please try not to worry about developing this condition, Sandi. Marsha's advice to consult your doctor and your mom's eye doctor is excellent. They will be able to tell you more.
I will keep your mom and you in my prayers. {{{hugs}}}

I wondered about the corneal transplant too. Does it seem to affect both eyes? Maybe having yours checked now, preventive measures of some kind can be taken in case you have inherited it. Does she do any driving? Extra hugs for the two of you Sandi! By the way, how has your brother been doing? Lost track of time, has it been a year since his fall?

Must be the week for Mother's and eyes. Took my Mum into the eye clinic for some procedure where they injected a dye into her then took pictures of her eyes. whatever the dye was she started going a bit yellow later when we were out shopping. She looked like she had liver disease. Don't know if it's connected but today she has had continual nose bleeds so I've been helping out at her place. Hope your Mum's eye becomes less painful and scratchy Sandi. My mum has had one cataract done, not overly successful.
