What is the best kind of litter?

  1. I was using Special Kitty litter from walmart ever since i had Snow White (8wks old). I just went to Petsmart and bought Fresh Step Clay litter. Is that fine because she is now laying and playing in her litter box instead of going. And i think she may have swallowed 1 or 2 clays.

  2. Oh dear...I not aware of anything harmfull in it...but as far as rolling and playing in it..Everytime I do a complete scrub down of our litter box and refill it...Blackbeard still rolls in it and plays..and he is getting mighty big for that ...

  3. If it is clumping clay litter she really shouldn't swallow it. Her tummy doesn't digest it and it can cause a block in her intestines. Follow her up.

  4. I use clumping clay for my adults but I would use tree-based kitty litter for kittens.

  5. It is not the clumping type and she is eating it. I am going to throw it away and go to Walmart and buy the one i used before.

  6. That's probably a good idea, Snow. You definitely don't want a litter that she'll be inclined to eat.

  7. I used Feline Pine Clumpping litter. I have a kitten and adult cat and all has been good with it. It does stick a little to my kitten's long fur. It is supposed to be a lot more healthier for cats.

  9. My guys all have long "britches" as well..so I've been using Yesterday's Mews..kind of a paper pellet-y thing....they still occasionally get a pellet or 2 (or 3, or 4) stuck to them, but alot easier to get off...

  10. i'm a little late to this topic, but I love the litter called the World's Best Litter. It's made from corn and all natural, i like it becuase it doesn't smell and I have 4 kitties and it works amazing and keeps the smell from the litter as well (well as long as they cover it up), it lasts forever too!

  11. I had to change litters once because my cat Taco thought it was a playground and ended up getting 3 pieces of litter stuck in his eye and it shut from irritation. I hope you find a solution for beautiful snow white!

  12. I can't offer much advice being that all mine are rescues & with the number of kitties I'm cleaning up after on a daily basis,I get what is cheapest. Altho I miss having itty, bitty kitties in the house,I'm thankful that I only have to worry about adult-sized now (even tho 3 are only 1.5 yrs.old).
I used to use Special Kitty as well. Good product. But stopped when I refused to buy anything from Wal-Mart that had a 'made in China' label (because of the pet food poisonings).
Now I mix the Petsmart brand w/the Tidy Cat (both hard-clumping)& it seems to work for me. I just can't afford to try the others.
Good Luck with what you decide.
