  1. Hi - I'm Kate in Waikanae, New Zealand (also the former home country of the Kitten Master!. I have two cats - Dara is a female pedigree bluepoint Siamese, and Spike is a male tabby, adopted from the SPCA. They are both nearly 3 years old and although we got them at the same time from different places they were actually born on the same day. Dara is the Thai word for star and she likes to star in everything that is going on. Spike is much more aloof and slightly timid - he's not a lapcat unfortunately.

I check in on TDK everyday and have got my sister hooked also - she is Antipodean Moonshadow. Looking forward to chatting.

I, too, love the country in New Zealand - and the history, although I've never been there. We have 7 cats/kits and 3 dogs. Would love to see pics of you and your sister's cats.

  9. Welcome KapitiKats! I was briefly in New Zealand 19 years ago. My ex-husband & I spent about a week in Australia and then a couple of days in Auckland. We took a trip to see the glow worms in the Waitomo caves. I thought your country was absolutely beautiful. The grass was incredible - I remember it was sort of a dark blue-green and looked like velvet. My current husband and I are hoping to have a proper holiday in New Zealand...one of these days!

  13. It's so good to have you and your sister here. Your cats sound wonderful! Ah, yes, cats who know that they're the star of the show. Did you name her before or after she became the diva?

  15. Welcome KapitiKats! I have always had a hankering to visit New Zealand as well as Australia. I love that your country is where you can go to the beach or go up to the South of the Equator Alps to go skiing. After seeing the Lord of the Rings movies, I definitely want to visit now more than ever. It is high up on my list of places I would like to visit someday.

How did you come about with your screen name?
San Jose is about an hour south of me.

  17. KarinfromAlameda - my screen name is based on the area I live in - the Kapiti Coast. Kapiti Island is a bird and wildlife sanctuary just off the coast - no cats or rats allowed over there!
