I think I was just fired

  1. Arcalian, bummer! That sucks. If you have a branch of ManPower Temp Services near you, I can highly recommend them. I have worked for them in two different states and on the first occasion had consistent work to keep me financially solvent between leaving one job and actually moving to a different state (about 7 months) and on the second occasion (in the new state) Signed up for temp to perm and the first assignment worked out that way. I am a believer in them, because they offer all sorts of training and refresher's for free to their temps. It was through them that I learned: Word, Word Perfect, Excel and a couple of other programs. They see it as a way of getting their people as marketable as possible.

  3. Well my roomie just got home from work--he's the Ebay customer service guy for the company--and he tells me he overheard the bosses talking and apparently in January the mail department was gonna be outsourced *anyway*, so my little spat with the supervisor gave them the excuse not to have to pay me for the final 2 months and change.

  4. ^That sounds so typical. Typically underhanded. I'm so sorry Arcalian - again, I hope you find something soon and that it's something you like. I don't have any idea how unemployment works, maybe you could file until something comes along?

  5. This must be a scary time for you, Arcalian, but I'm sure things will work out for you.

Apply for unemployment insurance immediately. In many states, unemployment benefits start when you apply and aren't backdated to the date you left work. And even if you think you aren't eligible, apply anyway. As a past human resource person I can tell you that even when someone is fired for really good cause (drinking on the job, threatening other employees) that sometimes unemployment pays anyway. In many states the burden of proof is on the employer.

    Good luck.

  6. Sounds like you would not have been given notice when they outsourced two months down the line anyway.

Get on the filings (unemployment and temp agencies) and polish up that resume.
