  1. BC, ever been to Micanopy? That's the quintessential Florida redneck town. As soon as you try to pronounce the name, you're sorted as either a "local" or a "furriner."

Hint: the pronunciation is nowhere remotely close to its spelling.

  4. My parents were both Southerners, but I am not. Believe me, Texans let me know that every chance they get. "You ain't from around here are ya?" I hear that at least ONCE a day. Eventually I'm hoping to never hear THAT particular little phrase again.

  5. Ailuro, you are absolutely right and I hang my head in shame.

We did not lose the war. We got cold, and Bobby Lee said that we could go home. What happened later was a mix-up in paperwork.

  6. HM In TX, "You ain't from around here are ya?" does not necessarily mean "Not Southern". It does mean Not a Native Texan. There are a few give away words like "purdy" (I can hardly force my fingers to type that one) that will get you tagged.

Born in Mobile, reared in Slowdeatha from 2.5 yrs and always got the essential "You ain't from around here are ya?" because among other things I had "fingers" instead of "fangers" and thought flowers were "pretty".

And Emma, you're forgiven this time.

  7. Close, Buttercup. It's "Mick an' Opie." For some reason, every time I think of that town, I get a horrible image of little Ron Howard walking down to that fishin' hole with Mick Jagger.

  10. I thought Barney Fife was Mick Jaggers lost twin, not "Aindy". You just reminded me of a book that was out about 15 years ago Gata, I think it was called Separated At Birth or something like that.

  12. In the South, that car on the side street will wait for you to pass before pulling out.
In the North, that car will cut you off. Happens here every day.
