My dad is having surgery on Friday. They will be removing about 12 inches of colon and then putting him back together... from what I gather it'll be a 3-4 hour surgery. He's 82 and has been in better health. I would be grateful for any and all prayers and positive energy for him, my mom (who's hand I'll be holding that day) and the surgical staff. Oh, and a bit for myself as well. Thank you all...

I will keep your dad in my prayers. I will also be praying that you have the strength to calm your mother's fears, and that the surgeon's hands are guided by God. Take care of yourself and keep us updated when you can.

One Popoki, my brother in NJ has had this surgery--twice! The first time they removed a small section. Five years later his problems returned, and this time they removed 1/3 of his colon. That was last November. He is feeling well enough to joke about it, for instance saying that his favorite punctuation mark is a semi-colon. ;-)
Sending out prayers for him, you, mom, the doctors, nurses and everyone involved.

Lots of healing prayers and good thoughts for your dad and the rest of the family. Tonight pack a snack bag with lots of water and good protein snacks like peanuts and stuff like that so you and your mom can keep going and not have to roam the hospital.

You all are wonderful, amazing people. I'm reading all your posts at work... big mistake.. LOL Trying to keep the tears from running down my cheeks.
Dad seems to be taking it all in stride. Mom won't say how she feels; I think that's a generational thing, but I know that she is worried. I asked her a simple question the other night (what color dresses did your bridesmaids wear?) and she couldn't remember. Granted, that was 55 years ago, but it was something I knew she'd remember. Why did I ask? you ask. I'm planning a 55 year anniversary lu'au for them. I will be doing a special hula for them ('N Dis Life by IZ) and I will be wearing white... wanting to contrast that with the color her bridesmaids wore.
OK.. gotta get back to work. Mahalo nui loa (thanks very much)

Hope all goes well One Popoki - try and take some time out for yourself though, I know only too well that's easier said than done, but it's really important. In order to be strong for your family, you have to look after yourself. xx

Yep... easier said than done. Woke up with headache today. Boss just told me if I can't get and keep a smile on my face, that he is too grumpy today to deal with it.. and I need to go home. LOL Hmmm... most likely a stress headache, and I will take him up on that. I'll go for lunch and not come back.

Excelent idea - but don't tell anyone! Now you have an afternoon of me time! Relax, chill, shop, whatever floats your boat. Enjoy!

Well I took the afternoon off from work and slept. Sadly the headache is still here today. Have an appt with the chiropractor today about my shoulder (the MRI *shudder - survived that with valium* should nothing requiring surgery) and will ask him about the headache as well. I think they may all be related.
Dad's surgery is tomorrow... so I won't be here until much later. I take all your positive thoughs, suggestions and prayers with me to the hospital. I'll share with my mom all your thoughts. -
Hi y'all ! Dad's surgery went well.. a little more complicated than anticipated, but he is resting in ICU. He'll be there until they remove the ventilation tube that is helping him breathe. It was a long day.. and I must THANK YOU ALL for your prayers and well wishes. My mom was touched when I shared with her about all of you at this wonderful site.
