25/10 Saturday Morning Cafe

(40 posts)
  1. Good morning, peeps, since no one else appears to be around, I have decided to set up the Morning Cafe from the Antipodes! Agency kittens are chasing each other round the room, while they wait for fur-loving TDKers to descend upon them, there are waffles and fruit and maple syrup, croissants and Danish pastries, muesli and wholewheat toast, crumpets and muffins and yoghurt galore, plus anything else your heart desires. The coffee is perking, the marshmallows are all ready to get dunked in the hot chocolate and the tea is mashing, as my mum would say. Come on in!

  2. Ah, hot chocolate! How marvelous!!

    Posted 3 years ago by anncetera2 #

  3. Can I pour you a mug, Ann? It's all virtual, so I can guarantee no calories, even if I pop a chocolate fish (Kiwi delicacy) on the saucer for you!

Posted 3 years ago by jcat #

  4. That would be marvelous! It's about 3 or 4 degrees C here this morning, and until I get my hot shower, I'm feeling a bit chilled.

Oh, and a kitty that likes to purr and wrap up around the back of a person's neck would be perfection!

  5. *Pours steaming mug of hot chocolate, scoops up a long-haired Birman with a penchant for keeping people's necks warm, and hands both to Ann.* There y'go, my pleasure. Do you want one to curl up on your toes as well?

  6. Hi jcat and ann!!!
mmmm hot chocolate...I will have that and one of each item :)
How is everyone? Jcat...aren't you up pretty late? We worry you know...you do need your sleep, as much as we enjoy talking with you :)

  7. That hot chocolate sounds great! Are you in summer weather there yet, Jcat, or is it still what woud be considered Spring? We have the dreaded "s" word - snow - in our forecast for Monday. Too early for it to stick to the ground though.

Oh, and in real life, I'm going to go try one of those ziplock omelets.

  8. Hi, CM. *Pours a hot chocolate with extra marshmallows (Fishie makes two!), picks up an extra commodious and pretty plate and lightly fills it with yummy-looking food for CM.* Yes, I am, CM, but it's Saturday night and I got up very late so it all evens out in the end. It's a holiday weekend here.

But thank you for worrying and I will slope off soon, I promise!

  9. Hi, NNGM, great to see you! My, the hot chocolate is proving popular this morning. It's made with real Swiss chocolate so it's got to be good for you!

We don't hit summer till December, NNGM (and we usually don't get the real summer weather till January!), so it's still mid-spring here. And it's raining! Worse still, they're predicting hail and snow in the South Island and fresh snowfalls on the ski slopes. Ah well, we'll be muttering about the drought soon enough!

  10. Hi NNGM!! We are calling for snow here too but still too warm for it to stick.

jcat, thank you for the nummies!! mmmmmmm it hits the spot.
I must bid everyone a good bye, I must go make breakfast for my motley crew...
then off to the store to try and find a vacuum cleaner..ours broke and we need one bad!!

Hugs to all, have a great day!

  11. {{{CM}}} You have a great day too. Hope you find just the right model vc!

  12. mmmm!...Jcat, what is this chocolate fish of which you speak???!!! I've never heard of it!

Posted 3 years ago by sullis #

  13. CM< speaking of vacuums, we recently got the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser..cost was about $150, so not that bad, and it is so far (knocks wood) pretty amazing! Only drawback is frequent emptying of canister (my guys shed enough to build a whole n'other cat practically everyday!)

  14. Sullis, it's a little pink marshmallow fish shape dipped in chocolate. Cafes here often like to place it on your saucer beside your hot chocolate. (With coffee, if you're lucky, you get chocolate-covered coffee beans.) We have also been known to say, 'give that person a chocolate fish', when they've impressed us in some way!

  15. omg..that sounds so yummy!!! I've always been partial to our Easter marshmallow "peeps"...so that just sounds amazing!

  16. I found one of those Dyson Animals on sale last year and grabbed it. Is the Bissell a full upright? I will have to check it out, since the Bissell company is a home-town outfit we have an outlet store here. For pet hair, I much prefer the cannisters over having to replace bags all the time.

  17. Sullis, I expect the only thing different about it is the shape! It's nothing fancy but children and the young at heart are easily bribed with them!

And now, I'm afraid I must toddle off to bed but I know I leave the waffle iron and chocolate pot in good hands. Have a lovely Saturday, everyone!

  18. Yes, it's a full upright; Hepa filters and all; I found it has great suction...I think I'm due to replace one of the filters...there's 2, one little squishy one in the front that you can wash and stick back in, but the one along the side is the Hepa, and I think that's supposed to be replaced at least every 3 months (which I have not done; and I've been using it like 8 months or so!) ack!
But it's really worked great for me..it has so much suction that you need be careful to put the settings right, otherwise it'll practically suck all the fibers out of your carpet!

  19. chocolate and marshmallow! yum! Puts me in mind for those Mallomar cookies..I love them!!

  20. Thanks for everything, Jcat! Sleep tight!

  21. OK I have to say that the Ziploc omelet is a great idea. I just had my first one. Very easy, and good, and hardly any cleanup! I also had some yummy thick slab bacon and some coffee and an orange so I am happy and ready to go.

  22. Good morning all.

NNGM we do the ziplock omelet with my Girl Scouts. Boiling a pot of water and putting a zilock in to cook makes clean up around the fire quick and easy! The girls eat out of the bag so there are limited dishes too.

I just built a fire in the fireplace and a hot steaming cup of tea would be wonderfu! Thank you JCat!

  23. Hi peeps and peeplettes! Coffee and kittens, please!

Posted 3 years ago by miu #

  24. Good morning, Miu!!! Right now I am sitting at my computer desk drinking a freshly made strawberry smoothie! I'll have a black kitten to play at my feet, please!

  25. Soxsmom, you know what GirlScouts makes me think of this morning??? S'mores!!! omg...I crave those things til this day!!!! hahaha

Posted 3 years ago by sullis #

  26. I've never tasted s'mores - I feel deprived. :(

Posted 3 years ago by miu #

  27. I have my crackers, marshmellows, and chocolate all ready. I knew I'd have a fire today so I have to make s'mores! Anything less would be well--unlike any Girl Scout! I had a girl get me one of the machines that you can make s'mores on, but really that is crazy because they need to be made over a real fire!

Posted 3 years ago by SoxsMom #

  28. Miu, when Gem goes on her ski trip with Juuei she will make him s'mores :)

I love to add a little peanut butter to my s'mores. Yummmm

Posted 3 years ago by NNGM #

  29. I think a trip to the store is in order this evening. I will need to get oranges and orange juice. I thought I shook this crud! Probably another virus I picked up!

Posted 3 years ago by SoxsMom #

  30. OK, basic s'more recipe...
Take a graham cracker, break it in half.
Take a Hershey chocolate bar (the full size kind, with squares) you will need about 2 squares for your s'more.
Toast your marshmellows over an open fire. You want them nice and golden on the outside, certainly not charred.
Take half of you cracker, put your chocolate on top, place your marshmellow (still on the roasting tong) on top of the chocolate, place the other cracker half on top, squeeze down and remove the roasting tongs (or stick)
You now have a s'more sandwich! Yumm
