  1. JB, I have never made them so I have no advice...WWM...I throw the question to you :)

  2. I looked around online. I sprinkled some garlic salt and some pepper on them. Hopefully someone eats them!

  3. Oh i forgot to buy cinnimon again... :) I will see if I can get some off of my dad on the weekend. I want to roast my pumpkin for a nice treat :)

  4. Did I hear someone mention peanut butter cups? The mini ones are my absolute favorite---perfect proportion of p.b. to chocolate!

  5. Sneaking in to check on everyone this morning, Dorie hope that you feel better soon....

  6. LOL - I popped out to get candy as well (KitKats) late this afternoon - just in case! It is now almost 6:45 PM, and no visitors so far. I'm not really expecting any, but I didn't want to disappoint if someone did show up!

I was also looking for a pair of kitty ears to wear tonight! But I waited too long - none to be found anywhere in the village. I could have had reindeer antlers, but no kitty ears! :-(

  7. Wow 6:45 already? It's not even noon here. I still need to shower, and I have to work 3-815. Then it's party time!

  8. Good morning, afternoon or evening (across the pond). It has been nice and busy for me this morning. I am being given more responsibilities and am loving it. I will learn a new system next week which is really great too. I was so under-utilized by my former boss. My new manager wants to really utilize me and this really makes me feel more like part of the department. Yippee!!

It is a rainy weekend here but I do not think that will deter the trick or treaters in my area. Down the street someone went to town on their front lawn area. They have ghouls swinging from their tree, a horse with a headless rider, pumpkin lights around the fence and all sorts of things. It looks really cool.

Dorie, wow, you sound really sick! Take care of yourself and get well.
CM, hope Miss Maddie feels better by the trick or treat time.

Abbie (AV), your burgers sound delicious. What time is dinner? If you can, please post your receipe so I may try it. I think I will pass on the chinese mayo sauce though. I am just not into spicy food anymore. I had a really spicey fajita on Wednesday night and had to drink milk to feel better. I was eyeing the steaks at the grocery store last night. They wanted $14.98 a lb for a new york steak and don't even think about the lamb chops! Ouch!

  9. I love to roast pumpkin seeds - you can do them many ways - sweet or savory"

Sweet - mix them with melted butter, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg & pumpkin pie spice

Savory - olive oil, salt, garlic powder, cumin, chili powder to taste for a kick!!

Roast 425 for about 10-15 minutes - keep an eye on them. The ones with butter tend to burn easier.

One important tip before you cook them - they must be washed, cleaned, and DRY!!! I let mine dry over night- if they're wet, they will be soggy!!!

  10. I've never done pumpkin seeds *blushes*. In fact, I've never done anything with a pumpkin. I thought that you just opened a can......

  11. Hi SMM, glad work is going so great. It is so nice when you love your job and look forward to going to work with a happy face instead of dread!! Been to both.

  12. All this peanut butter talk had me to the jar with my spoon! LOL ...

  13. SOM, it is interesting that you mentioned earlier on this thread about having another TDK meet in Florida. If you do, I would be interested as I would like to see other parts of Florida if possible. Maybe meet up around your area or GD's..maybe a trip to Miami this time? Open to all possibilities.

Also, when my uncle came out from Michigan a couple of weeks ago, he mentioned an open invitation to come visit him and my aunt. So if I take him up on that, I could also do a Michigan TDK meet up sometime next year. What say you Michiganers?

  14. This was my first pumpkin seed experience too. Although the recipe I was following didn't specify that they needed to be dry.. they're not soggy tho, so that's good.

  15. SM -
    The burgers are:

    1 lb. ground sirloin
    1 tsp. cumin
1/2 tsp. garlic powder or 2 cloves fresh garlic grated
2-3 shallots (onions) chopped very finely, or can grated
    1 tlb. worsteshire sauce
1 tsp salt (if you can take salt)
    1/2 tsp black pepper
2 tlb. fresh cilantro chopped very finely
tobasco to taste - I like about 5-10 good shots!

Mix well, and make into patties. I like mine cooked med. to med. rare. Rest under foil for 5 min. and serve on toasted bun. As toppers, I use roasted red peppers from the jar - drain them well and pat off excess moisture, you can chop them or leave them halved. Then I melt provolne Cheese over the top - one minute under the broiler will do the trick.

    Shiracca sauce:

    1/2 cup mayo
1-3 tsp. shiracca (chineese chili sauce) it's very hot, so adjust accordingly
1/2 tsp. ginger - fresh or powder
    1/2 tsp. lime juice
    1/2 tsp. soy sauce
    1/2 tsp. garlic powder
    salt & pepper to taste

  16. Thank you, AV! I will have to try this sometime soon. I might consider getting a George Foreman grill to try this on. Yummy. I am drooling just reading about this receipe.

  17. Hi SMM! That's great that not only do you still have your job - it is going to be even better! :-D

Posted 3 years ago by Rubia in CA, 4/28 #

  18. Any grill would do fine! Evey pan frying burgers works when you don't want to clean a messy grill.

One last final favorite thing of mine - if none of you have ever tried this - it's one of the most refreshing drinks you can make - I got the receipe from the spa I go to for facials and massages:

Take a seedless cucumber - it's the long ones that come wrapped in cellophane. Put 8-10 slices (wash & leave the skin on) into a pitcher of water and refridgerate for at least 30 min. Can leave it all day. Absolutely one of the best tasting waters you will ever have!!!

Posted 3 years ago by AV #

  19. Wow Abbi, you are a fountain of info!!! Thanks for the cucumber water. SMM, yes, maybe we could do a beach meet,ie, Ormond Beach, Daytona Beach so you get to see the east side. If you do Ormond Beach I have a guest room with 2 twin beds and a den with a double sofa/sleeper so I could accommodate 4. This would be a hoot! I bet Terri and John and even maybe Ouizie would come over. GD and Buttercup too! Now I know there are other Floridians, like Abbi in Tampa, etc. There are just so many restaurants around here but one on the river or the ocean would be fun. A burger joint with appetizers, that way everyone is happy.

  20. Well - we are off for our Friday night curry! I hope we don't run into any scary ghosts or gobblins on the way!

    Happy Halloween, everyone!

  21. Hahahah! Duck Butt! I just had a chill run through me. When I went to look at Duck Butt I was noticing the comments at the bottom and the third one is someone named Renee...for a moment I almost thought it was our Renee...sniff...I guess it'll take a while, eh?

  22. I am winding down at work...then someone mentioned scones and tea. I perked up then. Pass some around this way.
I used to bake pumpkin seeds when we did jack-o-lanterns for the preschool I used to work for many, many years ago. The kids didn't like them very well, but I loved the taste of them. I can't remember the recipe I used, but some of the ones mentioned sound good.

  23. George is coming to spend Halloween with the girls! They are so excited - it will be a black and orange kitty Halloween!

Posted 3 years ago by WillowandWindismom #

  24. *scones with lovely clotted cream and tea for LK*

George is very excited; his mama is a stick in the mud and doesn't like Halloween, so he's happy to go spend time with his friends in Texas. He'll keep you safe from the scary doorbell, Windi!

  25. Willow drags her favorite black blanket to a spot in front of the dining room window. She goes and gets George and Windi (who is sporting a very large orange bow on her head) and assigns them places (yes, Willow has a control issue) to lay on the blanket. They WILL be in the following order from left to right: Willow, Georgie, Windi. That way she thinks they will optimize the Halloween decorating theme. From the window they will be able to see if any goblins come up the sidewalk to try and collect a Reese's peanut butter cup or a Hershey's miniature.

Windi looks around and decides that the blanket needs a bit of extra decor. She runs through the cat door out onto the screened in patio and grabs a mouthful of dead leaves. Back in through the door and she scatters them around the blanket. She steps back and admires her decorating skills.

Georgie wanders into the kitchen and heads for the treat drawer. He tells Willow that they have plenty of time for treats and a little snooze on the patio before the trick-or-treaters arrive.

Windi sticks very close to Georgie and whispers in his ear, "Don't let the door bell get me, okay????".

    Time for some Greenies!

  26. AV, I am going home and making burgers!!!!! nom, nom, nom. Happy and safe halloween everyone. CM, can't wait to see pictures of Maddie. Boo Y'all!

    Posted 3 years ago by KYKAT 12 23 #

  27. George is temporarily distracted by the leaves, batting them around and stepping on them to make them go "crunch". After a minute or so he gets bored with that and settles down between the two black kitties for a nap.

Posted 3 years ago by Kilroy #

  28. Abbers "sings" her white kitty downstairs (white kitty is a stuffed animal that she has been attached to since I got her) ; and hubby & I are enjoying burgers !!! No kids so far ... 8:00 ... none likely

Posted 3 years ago by AV #

  29. TDK Florida Meet - yay! Karin, you'll have to come! I'm game and getting excited already!!!
7:29 and the gym is empty - I'm going to escape!!! Supposed to close at 8:00, but I'm so out of here. I'll check back tomorrow!

Happy Halloween, all! Willow and Willow - have fun with Georgie!
