Kilroy, one step forward at a time...at least, Georgie's not biting as he goes across you to hubby.

Morning all. A big cup of coffee wouldn't go amiss this morning. I am working the polls tomorrow but not my home precinct so I went and found the place on the way to work. With me being off tomorrow, I wont be on much today. Everyone, get out and vote tomorrow and I'll see you all on Wednesday.

Hello again! I listed 40 books on Amazon and am hoping to sell a few. They've called 3 times now from the gym. I'm not picking up and they're not leaving a message. Oh well!
Just got off the phone with Old Boss' wife. She told me they did indeed have an old tv for me and that Old Boss brought it into the office today for me to pick up. I hope to have the time to stop by and pick it up. Yay! Old Boss' wife has a big cyst on her pancreas that she's having taken out in a few weeks so she asked me if I'll be available to help out. Old Boss will be with her at the hospital and they asked their 16-year old daughter if she'd rather stay at a friend's or have me come stay with her. She picked me, so I'm planning on spending 4-5 nights over there with her. Also, she's having the surgery in Miami about an hour away and don't want their daughter driving down there, so i'll probably have to take her down there a few times, as well. This is going to be a busy month! I'm dog-sitting from 11/1 to 11/16, I'm going to watch XBF's cat from 11/6 - 11/9, dog-sit for a trainer at the gym from 11/14 - 11/16, stay with Old Boss' daughter 11/18 probably through 11/23 and then cat-sit the biting cat frm 11/24 to 12/2. Imagine what I could have made had I raised my prices before committing to these dates. Oh, and I may dog-sit for a lady from the gym for a week as well.

Here's the story - it had explained it in the Christmas card thread:
They fired DTG! Or he quit - I'm hearing conflicting stories. My Boss quit without notice on Friday. One of the trainers quit Monday and yesterday was his last day. Drama Queen's sister quit on Friday as well and from what I hear, DQ isn't far behind her! Two of three remaining independent trainers left on Friday as well and all their clients cancelled their memberships.
The place is going down fast. I wanted to work 5-9:00 or so, in the evenings when DQ, EBL and her brother aren't around. Yesterday when I was there, EBL called and asked me to start working 2-9:00 every day and take on added responsibilities - pretty much making me front desk manager without the title or extra pay. I also heard from two different people how she says the front desk people (there are only two of us, so I consider myself included) are "dumb as monkeys" and "have no personality". I guess because I'm not as excitable as she is (she showed up waving a gun around the other day after DTG was fired/quit!), that must mean I have no personality. I also know that she was going to fire me and was interviewing people, but she must have not found anyone since she was being very sweet on the phone and telling me how wonderful I am and that she's never had a problem with me.
Anyway, I agreed to work 2-9, but I'm only going to do it this coming week - only because they don't have anyone else and because I have to wait to get paid until Monday the 10th. After I get paid I'm going to tell them I'll work 4:30/5:00 - 9:00 and if they don't agree, I'll quit.
I have a ton of dog-sitting this month and am working on expanding my business to make some more money doing that and not having to put up with the drama and back-stabbing at the gym. -
GD, have we mentioned that you need a different job! This is just too stressful for you. It almost sounds like you could be a pet-sitter full time. Look into those options.

GD, I hope you're able to get out of the gym situation fairly quickly. It's clear to me that the current management has their heads stuck up their collective kiesters.
In the meantime, doublecheck with any state regulatory agency and find out if there's some sort of licensing for petsitting in your state. Insured & bonded petsitters are in significant demand, especially in larger metro areas. An interview and signed, legally enforceable contract with your customers is a must; it protects you, them, and their pets.
Provided you price yourself competitively with others who offer similar services, market yourself properly, drive a fuel-efficient car, and network with area vets willing to make referrals, you should have no shortage of business.
Good luck!!

Holy cow GD. I just hope your pet sitting jobs expand into you being able to leave the gym.
I have had a crazy morning. I have been on the phone all morning with friends, family, hubby, doctor's. Then I had to vacuum and make lunch, change Maddie a few times :)
Hi to everyone that came in as I was in and out :)Posted 3 years ago by cricketsmama #

TL, I'm guessing that Old Boss' wife isn't going to pay me. She hasn't paid me for dog-sitting and even staying over with her daughter in about two years! I used to think she thought her husband was taking care of it when he paid me for the office work, but now I just don't know what she's thinking. I dog-sat for her for a long weekend a few weekes ago and didn't get paid.
At least I'm getting a tv! -
Oh, and the latest good news - bad news update.
The good news is that Otto and Ellis are doing great!
The bad news is that they came back home with me yesterday. On Saturday, my good friend gave the entire family's situation some additional thought, after she met Ellis and Otto on Friday night.
She explained to me that she wasn't concerned with Otto being adopted; that he was friendly enough and flexible enough to adapt fairly quickly to this particular family's environment. She was concerned about Ellis, though, since he's more timid and prone to hiding. Her biggest concern was that Ellis would become a kitty you never saw, hiding under furniture all the time. That in itself wouldn't be a great life. But the real kicker is if he's not seen often enough, he might become ill and the family might not even be aware of it until his illness was severe.
We talked some more, and I reluctantly agreed with her. Otto and Ellis are clearly bonded, so we didn't talk much about the idea of placing Otto with this family, and finding a different home for Ellis.
So, Otto and Ellis are back home, but the experience this weekend will hopefully help them learn to be less fearful, more outgoing, and more flexible. I'll be taking them with me to the recycling center on Wednesday, too, to increase their comfort with traveling.

My, I don' tknow what everyone else thinks, but GD: would it hurt to be honest and say that you are in financial need and although you are happy to help , you truly need to be compensated. I'm not sure that this is "real" friendship, sounds a like "taking advantage" to me.

I agree with TL, GD..you should be compensated for gas and time if nothing else. Think about it.
Ann, I am sorry about Otto and Ellis but glad that they will be together and I hope that they will be more outgoing. ((Otto)) ((Ellis))Posted 3 years ago by cricketsmama #

TL, I always had the feeling of being taken advantage of by Old Boss' wife. She's the one who got me the job with her husband at the office and got me out of a bad situation with my boss at my former job. I always felt that she thought I owed her for that, though her husband told me I was the best office manager he'd had in 30 years, I'd work evenings and weekends for him and only had one day off sick in two years and 5 vacation days. I always thought that ought to be enough, but maybe to her it wasn't.
Ann, I'm so sorry it didn't work out for the boys with the adoptive family :( I do think you're doing the right thing, though, in taking them back. I hope something else comes up for them soon.

Oh, and Kilroy... have you and Mr. Kilroy thought about perhaps adopting a Ragdoll from a rescue organization? I have a feeling that while Mr. Kilroy has a good relationship with George, you might benefit greatly from having a Ragdoll for company. If you'd really like to have a cuddly lapcat, it's hard to pass up a Ragdoll! (And who knows? It just might make George look at you a little differently, too.)

Thank you, CM and GD. I know it will work out for the best, somehow; their home is out there somewhere. It's just a shame that it couldn't be this one.

GD, please think of yourself and your boys. Whatever she thinks your owe her does not make it right. I think that it would be OK to simply be truthful. Tell them that you are expanding your pet services out of financial need and that the days that you attend to their daughter are days that you will not be able to work and therefore not make any money. What do you have to lose? Is it possible that they would say no? Let's be realistic, who else do they have to accomodate them so? Anyway, don't mean to go on and on, but you need to think of yourself a little.
Sorry about the boys anncetera, God willing a better home situation will come soon.Posted 3 years ago by Tigerlilly #

I'm glad, too! There is at least one more trainer that I know of who is going to quit and Sean who works the front desk in the mornings may be on his way, too. There is some talk that the two senior trainers are planning their escape and the physical therapist who rents the back room 3-4 days a week is leaving, too.
Yep, this is officially the worst place I've ever worked! -
Well, I'm going to get out of here. I'm going to run to the dog-sitting house and walk the pup and see if there is time for me to stop by the old office to pick up the promised tv.
I'll try to check in this evening when all the whackos leave the gym. Sigh - it's going to be a looooong 7 hours!

Good Morning my Family...at least I think it's morning. Between the time change this weekend & the yucky weather clouding our California skies,it feels like I'm in a cave. This is an old mobile home (1979 model) & the entire place has dark wood paneling in it,which adds to todays darkness.
I guess I could put glow-in-the-dark strips on my kitties to find my way around.GD...you better get that tv set before the OB's wife changes her mind. lol.
Ann...I think it was meant to be with Otto & Ellis coming back home. Home being the key word. Your the best Mom & Caretaker for them.
