Hi all,
I'm starting to wonder if I'm feeding Mogley too much and if he's too plump for his size. I feed him about a third of a big can of Friskies mixed with a hand full of Iams dry food twice a day. I know sometimes he gets three on accident if I see his bowl is empty so I feed him and then find out was already fed earlier but that doesn't happen too often. I want to make sure he's getting enough because he's a kitten and still growing but he's also getting a little pudgy and I'm wondering if that's normal for a kitten his age. He's 6months and has a little bit of a pouch belly started already. I know his breed is prone to obesity so I just want to make sure I'm not doing him more harm than good. I took a few pictures of him this morning and put them on his page so if anyone can look at them and give an opinion on his weight I'd really appreciate it.

Miu I agree he doesn't look fat!My Max gets 1, 3 oz can a day now due to his meds twice a day. And he free feeds on iams kitten kibble!

1/3 of a large can twice a day strikes me as a little excessive but not that much. I feed mine 1 small can a day (split into two servings) and a bowl of dry food is left out all the time if they want to snack. I have two cats and the bowl of dry food usually lasts them between 2 and 3 days. I have always fed that amount and been successful with long living kitties.

Heheheh Petpntr! Max's dry bowl lasts 2 days Max hehehehehe! And he get's the 1.5 ounces or a 3 oz can each day with meds.! Have to give him can since his meds must be given and ones liquid and ones crushed meds!
How much is in a large can?

Thanks everyone. Last he was at the vet over a month ago for his spa day he was 5lbs and I know he's grown since then but I don't know his exact weight. Maybe I'm just being overly paranoid because it's known that the only known health problem that persists in that breed is obesity and I just want to make sure I'm doing my best to keep him healthy. Maybe I'll start feeding a little less wet food twice a day and let him free feed on the dry...
Max is so cute by the way LV :)

ThanksI think so too heheheh! I's say about 3 ozs a day is fine cause Max gets that it is just the big cans you can't measure to well. I get Max the 3 oz Fancy Feast canned so I go through 1 can a day!

Thank you everyone for the advice and compliments. I also caught him sneeking dog food the lil piggy. He walked right underneath our labs legs and pushed his head into her bowl and stole a piece of food. Good thing our dogs are not weird about their food.
He did another super weird thing this morning. I was feeding him(his bowls are up on the counter in the downstairs bathroom so the dogs don't eat it) and I noticed he didn't have his head in the bowl as usual while I'm trying to feed him, so I look over and he's peeing in the sink! I couldn't believe it. I mean I guess better than on the floor or something but I've never seen such a thing. Then I'm wondering if this is the first time or if this is something he's taken to doing? I keep his box scooped out but maybe he didn't like the litter? I changed it out completely right away this morning so I guess I'll keep an eye out for the sink piddler hah. -
Urinating somewhere besides the litterbox can be one of the first signs of a urinary tract infection. There's a special litter you can get at the pet store that helps detect blood in urine, but it's expensive. I'd strongly recommend taking him to the vet, just to be sure.
If he checks out okay at the vet, then yes, it's time to look at what's changed in his litterbox situation. Did you switch litters? Does the litter have a scent? (Most cats prefer unscented.) Did you change the location of the litterbox? Is there anyone pestering him while he's using the litterbox?
Good luck!
