  1. I just got home from taking Tessie to the vet. She seemed to have stabilized with her Imflamitory bowel disease yet she has not gained weight and is now down to 7 and one/half pounds. The words hypo-thyroid, kidney problems and lymphona were mentioned. She did more blood work and is going to send it out to an animal lab where they will look for these things, I guess. I thought they went fast with lymphoma so I thought that fear was behind me since she has been sickly for some time (about a year). Anyway I'm scared; the earliest I will find out anything would be Friday or maybe Monday.

  6. Thanks everyone, I had to laugh when we got home. She headed straight for the food dish--I guess not just people turn to food for comfort.

  8. Best wishes for Tessie. Hi CTR, haven't touched bases with you for awile! How's work going? I'm confused, are you still working in campus food service? Also, all healed from your gall bladder surgery?

  9. Hi PJ. I know I never seem to be on here when you are. I am still working for campus food service just a different place with better hours and easier on my body. I am doing really well from surgery--I still have some to be expected fatigue but I just rest when I need to and try to accept it. I changed my name because I was talking about TDK in front of someone I realized I did not want to come on here and know who I was; I don't know that they would but I didn't want to take a chance and realized my name would have been a give away and since I loved to talk cats I went with Cat talk rules. How are you doing and MOlly? I love her picture on your avatar she looks wise and knowing and also slightly amused by us humans.

  10. I had 2 Balinese purebreds that got lymphoma. Both got sick really quickly and one died after surgery to remove the tumor and one had to be helped to the Bridge when there was no hope. If she's been sick a year I would be surprised if it's lymphoma.

  11. Prayers for Tessie from me.

  12. Sheba's mom, thats how I understood it from what I read about it so I was surprised that my vet brought it up but she probably wants to prepare me for worse case. I'm hoping for thyroid of the possibilities she said. She also said that when the last blood work was done last Feb her thyroid was borderline so is doing a more in depth bloodwork on it now. I wish I had understood I would have asked for it then

  20. CTR I am so sorry. This has to be stressful-waiting is awful! I am praying that there is something that the vet can do to help. My thoughts are with you.

  23. Our vet was away on a family emergency so I will have to wait until Monday for test results. It was possible that they wouldn't have been back today, anyway so not quite as hard as it could have been.

  24. CTR, white light and prayers for you and Tessie!

My oldest cat was diagnosed with small-cell lymphoma about three months ago, but with the help of a super vet, light chemo, and on-demand feeding, is still with us and has gained weight, too.

Hopefully, Tessie ails from something more treatable.

    Will keep you in my thoughts. {{{Hugs}}}

  25. I talked to the vet today. Tessie has a blood sugar count of 300. I have to take her in the morning to do another blood sugar test and a urine test. I will probably have to give her insulin shots. At least I know I can do that since I have given her anti nausea shots. I didn't even think of this as being the problem

  26. Well it sounds like this isn't the worst news! My prayers are with you and Tessie as you work through this.

  27. Its hard to believe that such a diagnosis would be a relief, and I very well know that diabetes is no picnic, but it seems once we can make plans for our little buddy's futures, it seems much better. I was apoplectic until I found a vet who was able to diagnose Joshua correctly, and I had to medicate him every day of his life with some pretty powerful stuff, but both of our lives improved tremendously once the mystery of what was wrong was solved.

I pray that you get a good treatable diagnosis and that you spend many more years with Tessie.

  28. How old is Tessie? My Gibbie was diabetic for many years. That was a long time ago, and when he was diagnosed I was advised (not by the vet) to "just have him put down". He was still relatively young and healthy though, and I couldn't do it. We got him regulated on insulin and he lived another happy 7 years. Hopefully Tessie will have many years ahead as well.

  29. She is nine. I can't see doing that either she is a happy, outgoing cat and she seems to have a lot of quality of life. I think nine is still young even for a cat.

Posted 3 years ago by Cat talk rules #

  30. I'm glad the vet was able to figure out what the problem is, CTR. Tessie is lucky to have someone able to handle that for her. You are a great kitty mama!! I hope she has many more happy years with you. :)
