  11. Morning, all! I know, I'm late today.

CM, I will get to work on a list of book recommendations for you ASAP. Someone mentioned a Scandinavian mystery writer - it's probably Henning Mankell, he's Swedish and REALLY depressing.

A quick search found a series of mysteries set in Queen Elizabeth I's court by an author named Karen Harper. There are a bunch of them, and they get good reviews on Amazon.

GD, PLEASE, PLEASE get away from that crazy gym. Guns are never a good thing.

I have to move from one desk to another now, but will be back later, I hope.

    Hugs, all.

  12. CM - don't know if you've read them, but Dan Browns books are incredible mysteries! He's the author of the "Divinchi Code". Smartly written, and exciting; I couldn't put them down. Also, I've falled in love with Phillipa Gregory's novels - she wrote "the other Bolyen Sister". I've read almost her whole series of those books, and they tell the facinating stories of all the wives of Henry VIII. Starting with "the Constant Princess" - that's Catherine's story; then the other Bolyen sister" from there "the Bolyen Inheritance" then goes thru Elizabeth's reigh in the Queens fool, the Virgin Queen, and so on. Her lastest on is "the other Queen" - tale of Mary Queen of Scotts. I love historical fiction, and these are wonderful books.

  14. Good morning, All! Just peeking in before I get started on chores.

CM, you have to read the Phillipa Gregory books: The Constant Princess (about Katherine of Aragon); The Other Boleyn Girl; and The Boleyn Inheritance. She's also written several about QEI. All of her books are wonderful.

Must run off for a bit....

  15. Ooh, CM, I had another thought. The Brother Cadfael mysteries by Ellis Peters - they're set in the 1100s, so a bit earlier than QE1, but stuffed full of interesting history, great characters and plots. I love, love, love them and have the entire set. If your library doesn't have them, I could lend them to you.

There's also a series set in QE1's court by a woman named Fiona Buckley, and another by a woman named P.F. Chisholm.

This thread is turning into a really useful resource for mystery lovers!

  16. Good day all. Lots of bacon, a couple of eggs over easy, and a toated English muffin with butter please. All things I haven't had in a long time. Can't really cook until my kitchen is finished.... and still NO CALL BACK from the tile guy. I am so not happy with him!!

I'll be popping in and out... busy day today.

  20. Good morning everyone! I'm in class (but I'm bored already). I made a new purse last night, and plan on buying the fabric for MerD's bags sometime within the next week. Oh and I also posted my website on craigslist in SF, so I'm hoping people will see them and fall in love.

  23. Good morning all. GD, your gym saga continues. Please be careful, get your paycheck and get the heck out of there!

It was cold again last night, so much so that I had to close the window. Kitties are like velcro to me now. Mia follows me all around in the morning when I am getting dressed. She likes to attack the hangers when I put them briefly on the bed. Silly kitty.

I having a nice pumpkin scone and a mocha from Starbucks this morning. Yummy!

  24. Hey SMM how are you doing? I love velcro kitties. It is about to turn cold again here so I will get Velcor kitties back soon.

Last night my three perked their ears and raced to the window. Then we started hearing meowing outside. I went out to see if anyone was in distress and it seemed to be a territory battle going on with a big cat having cornered a smaller cat in the bushes. When I came out, big cat backed off in one direction and smaller cat made his escape in the other direction. With me in the middle, big cat decided not to give chase.

  25. Hi everyone...I was resting for a bit, then I showered and ate...now I am in bed again.
GD, I have not read the rest of the Little Women series. I honestly didn't know they had more.
AV, I have read Dan Brown. I love him. He is a great writer. I LOVED the Da Vinci Code and I loved Angels and Demons too!!
I have read Phillipa Gregory, the Other Boleyn Sister was a good read. I really enjoyed that. I also have another by her, can't think of the name right now.

  26. Good morning, all.

Just popped into the cafe for a quick cuppa joe and a cinnamon roll. Work calls (tho Coco is sitting on my manuscript). The little fuzzbutt wants my chair now that I've got it warmed up properly. Sam is meatloafing in his round bed in the living room; he would never think of occupying a warmed up chair ... too much dignity, I guess. (Well, he is a tuxie.)

Kykat, "Pride & Prejudice" is one of my favorites and the annotated version is just super, but takes a lot longer to read. Sometimes, I'd go off the main story just to read the notes.

Must run now. Will stop in later, probably on the night shift.

  27. Good books are always better than the movies are! "the Firm" by Grishom is great, and of course if anyone out there (and I can't imagine there would be many) that hasn't read "Gone with the Wind", well, its just my favorite book of all times, and while the movie is good, couldn't hold a candle to the book. Don't you remember - Scarlett actually had 3 children - Wade, Emma and Bonnie!! Of course the book only shows one!! Finally, I love the HARRY POTTER books! I read them with my kids, and I loved them just as much as my children did. When one of them (I think the next to last) came out in 2006, my family and I just happened to be vacationing in the UK, and had the priviledge to purchase a signed copy (by JK of course) at Edinburgh castle - it was some special event!!! Historic for us!! I love Scotland, we drove from south of London all the way up to Loch Ness - it was an awesome vacation! I know many of our TDK family is from the UK, what a beautiful country and what a history lesson it was for us to explore it.

  28. Av, I LOVE the Harry Potter books too. I read and have everyone. I would have loved to been at the Edinburgh castle to get a signed copy. I love the UK too. My dream and hubby's too is to move there one day. I feel so at home there.
