  1. What to do, hmmm. I know there's a big meal typically involved in thanksgiving, but what else to be people usually do on thanksgiving?
I do know what the holiday is about, giving thanks and such.
Also, we may go out that day, any suggestions on activities to avoid (especially if there are likely to be a large volume of kids involved) and to do?

  2. I wish I had room in my car to take you along with us..Most people send the day with family or friends, eat alot, watch football and give thanks for all we have...Many others choose to help others who don't have as much to be thankful for.. by helping serve meals to needy, or visiting nursing homes..Many places are closed on Thanksgiving day or you might need reservations...Always check!!

  3. I think you'll have to check and see if there are any events happening in your area Airy, but you might find a fun local Thanksgiving Day Parade or you can get together with friends and watch the Macy's TG Day Parade on television. One of our TDKers will be a McDonald's Balloon handler. If you want to eat out, make reservations early,(like this week) or if you want to order a pre made dinner you should order soon also. There is a french restaurant near us where we order pre made dinners sometimes because I am usually working. Most people get together with family or friends for Thanksgiving. I don't think there any special activities to avoid but in my part of the country holiday traffic is pretty heavy so we take that into consideration.

  4. Good point KK...the holiday traffic will be a big factor for Airy...so if you plan to go anywhere...give yourself lots of time to get there!!!!

  5. You have to watch football and then fall asleep but wake up in time to have a turkey sandwich. I think that it's like a national law or something.

  8. On Thanksgiving, I usually stay home with the cats, enjoy a dinner I've made, watch the parade, find a good movie on TV, and fall asleep. In the evening, my son will call and we plot which stores we want things at for the "day after" sales. If there's something he knows he won't be able to get to, I'll do that. I don't think there will be too much this year, though. I may not even go out into that madness.

  11. My girlfriends and I skip the Friday shopping after Thanksgiving and go for a pedicure! Airy, at the very least cook a chicken or turkey breast, make some mashed potatoes and gravy and another vegetable and eat some pie for dessert! Voila! You have done Thanksgiving. My family does apple pies instead of Pumpkin. Do let us know what you do!

  12. Airy may not know about the Friday after Thanksgiving Day. It is a day when many stores have huge sales, and they start at ungodly hours like 5:00 am. If you hate crowds, don't bother, but you can get some amazing deals.

My Thanksgiving Day will consist of: having family over for dinner, watching the Detroit Lions lose yet another game, taking a nice long walk in the afternoon, and trying to fish Nibs out of her hiding place so the family can say "Hi".

  13. Thanksgiving will be a "free" day from my diabetes diet - I'll be able to have what I want in whatever quantity I want for the day...yippee !!!

  14. Sounds good, Cheri!
Old Boss' wife had invited me for Thanksgiving this year, but now I doubt we'll be able to do it. She's having a grapefruit-sized cyst removed from her pancreas a week from today and will supposedly take a while to recover. She had planned on having the surgery after Thanksgiving, but I guess the scheduling didn't work out. Anyway, I doubt she'll be feeling like having Thanksgiving fresh out of the hospital.
I sometimes have Thanksgiving with a friend of mine and her family but it's been a couple of years since I last went. I may just relax, watch the parade, have a nice meal and be busy with Bobby and Mi, the biting cat and the three puppies I'm going to be watching. Or maybe I'll be sleeping all day in exhaustion!!!
