  1. Mine is an eclectic (some would say "schizophrenic") mix:

Popular Music: Jim Croce, James Taylor, and Jimmy Buffet ("Pencil-Thin Moustache" has been an ear worm for days now!)

Country: Garth Brooks, George Strait, and Gary P. Nunn (his "London Homesick Blues" has been the theme song for "Austin City Limits" for 20 years now!)

Instrumentals: Vince Guaraldi (light jazz--he wrote much of the music for the "Peanuts" specials and influenced the rest), Aaron Copeland, and a Big Band anthology

Jazz: A 3 CD box set of Louis Armstrong

    Alternative: Roxy Music and Squeeze

Contemporary Christian: Stephen Curtis Chapman, Newsboys, and the soundtrack from "The Rock and the Rabbi" (a mimimalist but very powerful telling of the Gospel from the perspective of Peter using only 4 voices, acoustic instruments, and no costumes. It started in a friend's church in Safety Harbor FL and went to Broadway before settling in a permanent home in Orlando.)

So, (channeling voice of "Tolga the Hostile") what's in your mp3?

  2. Wow, brandilee, your play list is just as "eclectic" as mine!

  3. Hmm, I know I have Rob Zombie, NIN, System of a Down, Christina Aguilera, Camille Harp, and the Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack. I really only use my MP3 for working out. I think I have Brian Setzer and Bjork on there too. Can't remember for sure.

  8. LOL! I've got over 4400 songs on MP3 on the computer, and I usually can random about 300 to my 2GB player. A lot of it is game and anime music by Japanese composers, movie scores (especially Hans Zimmer), along with some 80's stuff, random rock and roll, and the odd pipe organ piece. ;-)

  9. I finally got a MP3 player and love it--especially since it has an FM radio on it and it's exceptionally small. My musical tastes are also eclectic. Nelly Furtado, Annie Lennox, Heart, John Mayer, Whitney Houston, Mercy Me (cont. christian group), Christina Aguilera, Carrie Underwood (had to throw in some country!), Jennifer Holliday (original 'And I am Telling You' from 'Dreamgirls', Phantom of the Opera stuff, Funny Girl/Lady soundtrack, Tracy Chapman's 'Give Me One Reason' w/Eric Clapton (one of my all-time favorite songs), Bee Gees, Loverboy,Sarah Mclachlan, Bruuuuuccccceee!, Dido, Evanescence, Foreigner, Josh Groban, Journey, and Kellie Clarkson.
Got my sister the same MP3 player for her birthday last weekend and she loves hers, too.

  10. I have a strange mix of music on my iPod including my all-time favorite band, Kraftwerk. Most of the music is death metal and stuff along those lines like - Obituary, Frost Like Ashes, Napalm Death, Benediction, Embalmer, A.W.A.S., Coroner, Crimson Thorn and Sepultura. In addition to the Kraftwerk stuff, I have some other techno stuff - a couple of Chemical Brothers songs and one Juno Reactor Song and the hilarious song by Digital Droo called Monkey Developers (if you have ever seen the video of Steve Balmer going insane then you probably know this song). There are a few '80's new wave songs and a couple of songs by the band Garbage. I also have some of my own music and a couple of songs from somebody I used to be friends with (I play keyboards on those two songs).

  11. I don't own one...

Posted 4 years ago by GreatDane #

  12. I actually have balked at owning an MP3 player such as an Ipod or a Zune. I guess it is because my hearing is already messed up from going to concerts and hereditary so I haven't felt the need to buy one. Like my reluctance to buy a CD player or DVD player, I will eventually buy one when I am able to buy some of the things on my wish list.

  13. I don't own one either GreatDane, don't feel bad

  15. I have a lot of stuff on mine, from all walks of music. My favorites are the educational podcasts. I want to get some book on tape on there as well.

  16. I had to be dragged kicking and screaming into the CD age, I'm not ready for MP3's yet!!! - but I can tell you what's currently in my cd changer in the car : Best of REM, Best of Duran Duran, a Brit group called Keane, another one called The Fratellis (download & listen to Chelsea Dagger if you want a damn good stomp along song), Def Leppard (Rock Chick alert!!) and another Brit group called The Feeling.

Hey Owlwatcher - if you like Kraftwerk, have you heard the Coldplay track "Talk" - it samples some Kraftwerk song (according to husband) and it's brilliant!

  17. No MP3 for me either. CD player in car only holds one CD... and that is currently Mark Keali'i Ho'omalo... Hawaiian singer/chanter. Just took Keali'i Reichel out (yep, another Hawaiian singer/chanter/dancer)... saw him live Saturday night AND got back stage and have a picture of him and me. Hawaiian musicians are so full of aloha and so generous with their time that way. I floated away that night ... :)

  18. I too had to be dragged screaming into the CD age. It was forever before I got a CD player and only did so then when vinyl became sooo scarce and I realized that cassette tapes really do suck!!

The CD player I listen to on the way to work has an Alarm CD in it. That's what I felt like this morning. Unfortunately, I will get stuck on one CD or one band and wear them out. The man friend does not care for this at all.

Tomorrow, who knows what'll be in there. It could be Iron Maiden, or it could be Heart, or maybe it'll be Dwight Yoakum or Rufus. You just never know with me.

  19. MCW,I LOVE Keane!!I keep trying to find more than just their latest release, specifically their '04 CD w/"Somewhere Only We Know",that song gives me the bestest goose-bumps!!!

Posted 4 years ago by Tigger #

  20. I also love Coldplay and Kraftwerk too,and yes, they do sample Kraftwerk's "Computer World" for their song "Let's Talk".Both great
    artists.

Posted 4 years ago by Tigger #

  21. There's no hope for me....I don't know what an MP3 is. The albums & 8-Tracks,yes I did say 8-Tracks & cassettes I do have are of mostly 70's music...Santana.Lynard Skynard,Eagles,Pink Floyd,Fleetwood Mac,Peter Frampton,Doors,Linda Ronstadt,Led Zepplin(still rocks),etc.etc.etc. It's so embarrising to see how far behind the times I really am. I remember thinking I'd never experience a generation gap when it came to music,or anything else, for that matter. Boy was I dillusional.

  22. Tigerpaw - the Keane album you want is called Hopes & Fears. If you can't find it, email me, and I'll see what I can do...

  23. ----"Hey Owlwatcher - if you like Kraftwerk, have you heard the Coldplay track "Talk" - it samples some Kraftwerk song (according to husband) and it's brilliant!"----

I have that song in my iTunes library. It's not so much that it samples Kraftwerk's "Computer Love", it is almost a rewrite of the song with different lyrics. I still like the original song better than the Coldplay version though.

    Posted 4 years ago by owlwatcher_974 #

  24. Thanks for that correction, owlwatcher!Seeing as I listened to that Krafterk album for the 1st time in '80,I'd have to give the original the nod,by a few hairs. All 20-something minutes of "Autobahn" is also a classic time-capsule from '75!

Posted 4 years ago by Tigger #

  25. Ok, I have to respond, too.
No MP3 or Ipod (my grandson has one) but I do have eclectic tastes.
I have Itunes here at work:
BeeGees, Elvis, Neil Diamond,Elton John, Queen, Dire Straits, ELO, Neil Diamond, sound tracks from Phantom, Cats, Tarzan (Phil Collins), Hair, Heart, Neil Diamond, any 50's/60's music, Air Supply, Carly Simon, Indian drums/flutes, Enya, did I mention Neil Diamond,

Posted 4 years ago by artistabobbi TX 1/17 #

  26. Yup, you did. Which one of Neil Diamond's is your favorite? Just a CD player for me, with mostly 60's folk, and 80's rock. Sorry, have always thought from early 90's on, popular music was a waste of time for me.

  28. Hey tigerpaw,
I saw Kraftwerk live twice fairly recently. First time at the Coachella Music and Arts festival in 2004 and again out in L.A. (I cannot for the life of me remember the name of the place where they played though. If you think the album version of Autobahn is great then you have to hear it live! Especially with the setup that Kraftwerk have now! I love the live version from the Coachella concert - they had to shorted the song because of the festival hours (Kraftwerk went onstage at 9:00pm and the festival closed at 10:00pm) but I think it is one of the best versions I have heard next to another one I used to have but lost when my old pc got a virus. I still have an mp3 copy of the Coachella concert and it is one of my favorite of their live shows - amazing sound quality for a bootleg. They also have a live album out called, "Minimum Maximum" which has a great live version of Autobahn.
