  1. Thanks to my extremely generous parents, I'll be visiting the Big Apple in March (OK, probably not the best time to visit, but it's my birthday present). I'll actually be staying in Newark (it was cheaper) and would love to meet up with anyone who can make it! I'll fly in March 5 and leave March 10.

I'm still trying to figure out where to go, and how to get to NYC from Newark! So advice would be appreciated!

I cannot wait! And I hope I get to meet some of you!

  2. How exciting, Catherine! You will love it - there's so much to see and do there. The weather can be very changeable in March so you just have to be ready for most anything.

Maybe you can get tickets to a show!

  3. I hope so. The offers on Orbitz were out of my price range, though, so I'll have to try to get day-of tickets.

  4. Catherine, there is a ticket booth in Times Square with reduced priced tickets for that day's performance. You never know what tickets will be available, and it can change as you stand in line. But any show is an experience. Also, in the morning most of the theaters will sell standing room tickets. They are much less than the regular ticket price. That's how Mr. WWM and I first saw Phantom of the Opera because it was sold out. We were so entranced that we forgot that we had to stand for the whole performance.

If you have a chance, to take the ferry over to Ellis Island is a very interesting trip. The museum is great.

The Museum of Natural History is wonderful, too.

  5. Oooh, maybe I can host a meet; Newark is not far from me! I know of a driving service too and was thinking of utilizing that if some of us meet in the city. *Joan mutters to herself, "the house better be ready by then."* Or I can meet you and we'll travel to NYC together. I'm a country mouse but I might be able to handle it if I'm with a friend. Perhaps we can coax some PA and upstate NY'rs to come as well.

  6. I'm hoping we can get a good-sized group together. I'll be up there over the weekend, so maybe ...

BTW, my boyfriend will be with me as well (oops, forgot to mention him!). So at least the three of us can go to the city!

  8. Catherine,

What fun! Hubby and I are signed up for a couple of different discount ticket services and can get tix WAY cheaper than the TKTS booth in Times Square, or just about anywhere. When you have a better sense of what you want to see, shoot me an e-mail at newsgoddess AT gmail DOT com and I'll see if I can help.

  9. Catherine, there is a train that goes from Newark to New York that is relatively quick. Here is a link for information.

You can pick the train station in Newark that you are closest to, and then pick New York Penn Station for your destination. They run pretty frequently. You could also take a taxi but it would cost a lot more money. There are busses that run there as well, but I find the train the fastest and easiest.

I'd love to meet up while you are here and if you have any questions feel free to ask!!

  10. I second the New Jersey Transit suggestion; that's how hubby and I get to Newark Airport and it's quick and painless.

  12. Catherine, I would love to visit the USS Intrepid. It's on the NY side of the Hudson River and where the cruise ships dock.
Deb, you can come to my house and we'll continue east from there, get Catherine and away we go!

  13. NYCr's, I would love to meet you! There are parts up on the mountain where I live that you can see the city from. It's really cool.

  15. Joan that sounds really pretty! I love the NY suburbs. It's refreshing to leave the city sometimes and smell the fresh air and see the trees. I try to get out at least once a month to keep my sanity, haha. It's lovely here, but it gets to you after awhile every day.

  16. That would be cool, Joan.

Kilroy, I'm kinda thinking I'd like to see The Lion King, but of course it will depend on what's still open in March.

  22. Oooh that all sounds like so much fun. I wish I could be there but need to save up for trip to Spain/Germany come May. Airfare on United is approximately $426 and there is hotel and ground transportation. Well it's just a thought.

  23. I'd love a trip to NY!!!!! I don't like to fly, but I could take a train up there sometime. I once took a Greyhound from Miami to NY - one of the craziest things I've ever done and I'll never do it again!!!
