  4. Hi Miu!!! How are you this morning?

    Posted 3 years ago by cricketsmama #

  5. Oooooh, did you say banana bread??? Can I have some coffee, too?
    I feel like doing as little as possible today. My dog-sitting clients are coming home today after 16 days away, so last night I was over there cleaning up and also managed to finish one of the scrap books for Ron and Lauretta. I slept at home with the boys, but forgot my phone at the dogsitting house. I use the alarm on the phone for an alarm clock and did not sleep well, knowing I'd have to try and wake up around 7:30 this morning.
    I went and walked and fed the dog. At 10:30 I'm picking up my friend to go to her husband's office and clean it. Now I'll have to add cleaning my car to today's schedule since I'll be driving her (her son "booked" her car). I'll clean for about three hours and then go see the dog again and then I'll hopefully get to enjoy the rest of the weekend!

  13. Good Morning CF, Miu, CM, GD, Jadette, and Terri! Little bit of a sleepless night. Have wondered how Karen is doing. I know that Susie sent and email that she was going to call today, and Jeff will update when he knows. If it is hard for us to wait I can't begin to imagine the h@&& that Jeff and Susie are going through.

    Can celebrate a happy occassion! Happy Birthday Jadette!

  18. Deb I was reading your post last night and I know we have had information posted here about women and the symptoms of a heart attack. It might be worth reposting. I remember having the same issue. I have been blown off more than once--hubby got fiesty. I was sent to a cardiologist in Lubbock. It is hard to trust doctors when they don't listen, but it is important to be your own vocal advocate. I think in light of things a reposting would be a good idea.

  19. Good morning, Everyone! I am just popping in to see if there is any news of how Karen's night was. I know that we are all awfully anxious.

    The insidious thing with heart attacks and women is that often times women have absolutely no presenting symptoms that you would associate with a heart attack. More often than not the only thing that they complain of is a general malaise and sometimes a vague ache in the jaw. So it can be easily dismissed by physicians (who should be running diagnostic tests but don't because we are women) as something else, and usually they come up with a diagnosis that is so inane it makes you want to hit them with the nearest heavy object (like and oxygen tank). I read an article not too long ago about the percentages of women who present in the ER in the midst of a heart attack and who are sent home with another totally incorrect diagnosis and who were never even tested to rule out the possibility of a cardiac event. It is sad that so many times doctors will decide that a woman's symptoms are due to hormones, stress or some other "typical woman" diagnosis.

    The key is to be an educated patient and to be your own advocate. We know when something is wrong but more often than men we have to really go around and around to get the proper diagnostic tests done.

    Heart Attack Symptoms in Women--Early Warning

    One way heart attacks differ between men and women is that women may start to show symptoms earlier. The National Institute of Health released a study showing that in the thirty days prior to a heart attack, women were likely to experience vague symptoms such as shortness of breath, unusual tiredness or fatigue, and sleep disturbances.

    Most women discounted these symptoms, or attirubted them to other benign medical problems such as anxiety, a touch of flu, or a normal aging process. They did not see a doctor. Only in retrospect did women realize that these symptoms were actually an early warning of the heart attack to come.
    Heart Attack Symptoms in Women--The Actual Attack

    Even during an AMI, up to 43% of women report no chest pain. The heart attack symptoms females report include:

    * Cold sweat or feeling clammy
    * Sudden weakness, fatigue, or dizziness
    * Racing heart or very fast pulse
    * Anxiety
    * Stomach or abdominal pain
    * Nausea and vomiting that does not respond to treatment
    * Swelling of the feet, ankles, and lower legs
    * Pain in the lower jaw
    * Pain or discomfort in the back, usually along the bra line

    Heart Attacks in Women--The Survival Statistics

    Unfortunately, women heart attack survival statistics are not encouraging. Among women ages 25 to 44, AMIs are the third leading cause of death. Among women age 45 to 64, they are the second leading cause of death. Compared to men, women are less likely to survive the initial heart attack, less likely to get out of the hospital alive, and more likely to die within a year of their heart attack.

    This may be because women don't recognize the heart attack symptoms and therefore put off seeking help until it is too late, or it may be because women have smaller hearts that are able to sustain less damage before failing completely.
    Heart Attacks in Women--Improving the Odds

    Mothers have been telling their children for years that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and that is certainly the case when it comes to women and heart disease. Living a heart-smart lifestyle by maintaining a balanced diet, exercising regularly, and not smoking is the best way to avoid dealing with heart disease.

    However, women should also be aware of heart attack symptoms and should seek help immediately if these symptoms occur. Some women may be tempted to put off seeking medical attention for fear of being embarrassed if they're wrong. However most doctors would rather rule out a hundred mistaken AMIs than miss one real one.

    Finally, after a heart attack, women should be especially diligent about following up with a cardiologist and following their doctor's instructions closely.

    Heart disease often "hides" in women, so it's important to know the symptoms and be assertive about seeking needed care.

  20. A Woman's Heart: Symptoms of Heart Attack
    Every year hundreds of thousands of women die as the result of a heart attack or other cardiovascular disease. What many people, including many healthcare professionals, don't realize is that the symptoms of heart attack in women are often different than in men. Women are more likely to experience nausea, dizziness, and anxiety as symptoms that indicate a heart attack.

    * Chest pain-may also include back pain and/or deep aching and throbbing in one or both arms.

    * Breathlessness and/or inability to catch your breath when waking up.

    * Clammy sweating.

    * Dizziness--unexplained lightheadedness, possible blackouts.

    * Anxiety--unusual nervousness, feelings of impending doom.

    * Edema--fluid retention and swelling usually of the ankles or lower legs.

    * Fluttering--rapid heartbeats, palpitations.

    * Nausea--gastric upset.

    * Feeling of heaviness, such as pressure-like chest pain between the breasts that may radiate to the left arm or shoulder.

    Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death in women and it is the most preventable cause of death. Women should pay particular attention to these symptoms and seek immediate advice from a healthcare professional if these symptoms occur.

    The following tips can help lower your risk of heart disease:

    * Maintain a regular schedule of aerobic exercise

    * Eat heart-healthy meals, and if you are overweight, lose weight

    * Drink in moderation--if at all

    * If you smoke--quit!

  22. Good morning all !!! Happy Birthday Jadete !!! Please pass the chocolate cake, bacon, homefries, and french toast !!! It's going to be a great day !!!

  23. Good morning Cheri. Hope that you are continuing to do well in your recovery too.

    Posted 3 years ago by SoxsMom #

  24. I would like to add one thing to WWM's excellent post. When I had my attack I didn't have any of the symptoms listed. I had sharp pains in my chest. My initial reaction was that I was out of breath and it was my lungs that hurt. I don't want anyone to overlook the obvious thinking there are other signs or symptoms which may show up. That was all I had. Because of the stress I had been under I suspected I was having a heart attack and was able to act quickly to get help. So there are exceptions to be aware of. The bottom line is don't take any chances. Better to be checked for a heart attack and proved wrong than to miss it and be dead.

  25. Good morning, SM, PetPt, Cheri and WWM!

    Happy Birthday, Jadete!!! What's going on with the ragdoll rescue kitties?

    Thank you for the information on heart attacks in women, WWM. That is a timely reminder to listen to what our bodies are telling us in the midst of everything else we are doing.

    I'm glad you recognized your symptoms for what they were, SM. I'm happy you are still with us!!

  26. How is everyone? I spent yesterday in SF, which was warmer than Sacramento. We went around to galleries with not so great art pieces. But I got to spend the day with an old school friend, and meet up with a friend I went to school with at SFSU to dinner. So that was nice.

  27. Hi, JB! I'm glad you had fun in SF yesterday. What are you up to today?
    How are the bags coming along? I enjoyed the photos you posted showing how your kitties were helping you. :)

    Posted 3 years ago by Kitten Whisperer #

  28. I have all the pieces cut out and I plan on starting the sewing process within the next couple days. Today I have to work 1-5, and I'm spending the rest of the night with my boyfriend.

    Posted 3 years ago by jymberry #

  29. Sounds like a productive and fun day. My daughter got into sewing bags using a free pattern from Jo-Ann's Fabrics that she downloaded. The first bag was a nightmare to make because the instructions were so confusing, but once she figured it out she made several others. Her boyfriend's nieces wanted bags so she had a fun time going to the fabric store and letting them pick out the fabrics. I'm so amazed at her skills. She's never had a sewing class, but she is just fearless at figuring out things on her own.

    How long does it take you to complete a bag?
