  11. Well, not good news. I got a one line email this morning saying that 'They really liked me but due to the visa issue they can't go forward'.
    Hmm, for starters there isn't a visa issue. I have a one year work visa (now down to 10 months thanks to no job) and I want to transfer to an H1 visa after, which they had told me previously they were happy with and had done in the past.
    The recruiting firm is following up more but I've given up on the job.
    If an international company isn't willing to hire me because I'm a foreigner.... sigh.
    America isn't seeming as welcoming as it did.
    I'm overqualified for alot of the jobs I apply for, but all the feedback so far is I don't get jobs because I'm a foreigner (on a visa is the issue).
    .... big sigh ....

  15. Airy...I'm also sorry for the narrow-minded people in our US of A. The right job will come along. Like the others said...stay positive.

    If you like...I'll send you my "damn-it" doll so you can beat the livin' tar out of them.

  16. ((Airy))
    I will still keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Sorry that some companies and people are ignorant!

    Posted 3 years ago by cricketsmama #

  17. I'm so sorry to hear that Airy. [[Hugs]]

    Posted 3 years ago by Buttercup #

  18. I have to agree with CM on this one! IGNORANT IDIOTS! There are always international students at Universities--one would expect that companies would love the opportunity to have new ideas! My prayers are with you Airy.

  19. So sorry Airy. I don't have Visa problems but I kept being re-interviewed and applying for every job under the sun and nothing broke for me till last week. I started looking 6 months ago. It could be idiots or a terrible economy or both, but I have excellent references, lots of experience, never call in sick, you name it and it took me six months to get a job! And many of the jobs were advertised. What are your qualifications Airy? Maybe all of us TDKers could brainstorm for you. You are in my prayers.{{{HUGS}}}

    Posted 3 years ago by krazikat #

  20. oh STINKERS. I like TKN's idea, whack bonk sticks at the ready. Airy, the right thing will come along, I just wish it would do it sooner rather than later. But don't forget, you have all that TDK energy on your side, beaming right at you!

    Posted 3 years ago by jcat #

  21. KK, that is great you got the job! Airy, I am not surprised they are balking at the visa even if you have one that has 10 months on it. The only companies that seem to be willing to take a risk on a visa employee are either tech or biotech companies. I will think positive that you find something soon.

  22. USA is a great country, it's just a tough time for everyone, foreigner or not. I'm afraid the bad part is that maybe they are not being honest with you and use the visa thing as an excuse. I'm just curious, are they saying visa issue because they want more of a long term employee and worry that after they train someone, they'll be gone in a year or so?
    Please don't let this discourage you...times are tough for many, but God willing things will be better in the near future. Persevere and try to stay positive. Best wishes.

  23. I am eligible to get an H1 visa after this, which i had discussed with them. They said they had done them in the past and didn't have a problem. There really is no issue. All the interviews i had went really well and all the people I spoke to were really enthusiastic. So I'm guessing it's this last guy that was to make the decision and had been away.
    I think it's more likely that they have an american candidate for the job that they want more, but legally they're not allowed to discriminate against me because of my visa.
    I just need a job soon or i'm going to start running out of money. I don't want to go back to NZ. J-man will have to stay and I don't want to leave.

    Posted 3 years ago by Airyshone #

  24. Airy, is J-man an American citizen? Just wondering, with the visa thing, if the employers know you're married to an American citizen who has a permanent job here, they might be less inclined to think of you as a 'foreigner' who's likely to take off again. It shouldn't make any difference but maybe it would. But then maybe I've got it wrong and J-man is a Kiwi too. Just a thought...

    Posted 3 years ago by jcat #

  25. You're right jcat, J-man is an american citizen, but we're not married. The employer did know.

    Posted 3 years ago by Airyshone #

  26. **$$^^@*()), Good lord, don't employers know a good person when they see one. I am so sorry Airy, hang in there, you are now baby girl 3, (in my book) and keep on going after jobs. Someone out there will see your skills and beautiful personality. My prayers are with you, don't let this get you down. Have faith, as I do in you. Much love Mama Lynn

    Posted 3 years ago by Lynn from PA 6/8 #

  27. Sorry, Airy, that's me, jumping to conclusions as usual. Well, they're just crazy, that's all. {{{HUGS}}}

    Posted 3 years ago by jcat #

  28. I'm sorry for this disappointment, Airy. I hope the employment agency can get more information for you to figure out the real reason for being rejected. I don't understand the concern with the visa if you being eligible for a different type of visa at the end of the first year would not result in any disruption of your availability to do the job. Their loss, but unfortunately, yours also. :(

    I will continue to send positivee energy in your direction that a wonderful job will come along very soon!
