This Christmas I can't wait to see what Micky'll do when we get out the tree and all of the decorations. Christmas is going to be so much fun this year! Rocky usually climbs the tree. I wonder if Micky will follow his big brothers example on what to do with a Christmas Tree and also climb it. I am planning to get them one of those water bowls that have the water fall...if you know what I mean. I am not sure exactly what they are called, but ever sense we took the fishbowl away (thats what Rocky liked to drink out of) Rocky will only drink out of the sink when the faucet is running, I am hoping this water bowl will solve all of our problems.

CF I know what you mean! This is Max's first christmas too! Mom says we aren't putting up the bigger fake tree this year we are putting up the 1 and a 1/3 footer so boring and nothing to decorate! Oh well I am guessing Max will flatten it or knock it over hahaha!

I was thinking of getting a tree this year, just BECAUSE I know the cats will want to climb it. Of course, anyone with a real tree and a cat should know to tie a string to the top and connect it to a hanger in the wall or ceiling, or else the whole thing will probably come crashing down.

I'm really torn about a tree. Mili may well want to climb it, and that makes me nervous. My tree stand is very old - was my grandmother's - it has a wide base which is good, but the neat thing about it is that it rotates. Can't figure out how to secure the tree to the ceiling and still have it rotate !! Also considering a small tree - due to the anticipated price of a live tree. ACK!

It's Leela's first Christmas too! And the first without the boys in a very, very long time. Our house is an ongoing project and we're hoping it will be presentable for Christmas so she can get a proper welcome to the holidays. I wonder if she will climb the tree to the top like her brother Shaddo? We already decided that there probably won't be too many breakable ornaments! Hubby was worried about tinsel on the tree last year but noted that the boys haven't wreaked havoc on the tree in years and I had the feeling it would be their last so I used it up, with the feeling that there would be a little one in the house this year. :)

I discovered over the weekend that Penny has been eating silk foliage! Mr. Leeny has a lot of Autumn/Thanksgiving decorations out, and we've known for quite a while that Penny likes to play with them and take them apart with her teeth. While scooping the litter boxes, though, I found several pieces of poop with raffia and little orange sticks protruding from them. I showed it to Mr. Leeny and told him he might want to keep a closer eye on things.
Meanwhile, Gabe is trying to taste fiber optic light threads. When I saw him doing it, I told him "Gabe, no!" firmly, then praised him when he turned away from the decoration. He left the area soon after; I hope his curiosity's been satisfied.
Buttercup is leaving the decorations alone; but, then, biting the lights in half on a prelit tree during her first Christmas probably gave Mom enough of a jolt, so now her work is done.

My hubby wants to convert me to an artificial tree, but I am extremely resistant to that idea. Growing up in Oregon where Christmas tree farms abound, I've always had a fresh fir tree to decorate. They aren't as expensive here as they are in other parts of the country. I love the smell! We've been lucky so far with our kitties not paying much attention to the tree and its decorations. I am hoping they will continue to give it a wide berth! :)

A couple of years back, someone on this list recommended putting citrus under the tree to repel cats. It works, not one of my cats climbed the tree that year, Charli and Lucy (RIP) were tiny babies that year and Stink & Ellie, tiny babies last year, did not climb the tree either. Try it out, it worked for us! Get that TREE, don't hesitate, you won't regret it......

I forgot to tell you what kind of citrus I used. I used Clemetines.

Yay, christmas and kittens!
This will be the first Christmas for Henry as well. I'm excited, but also kind of dreading it. I'll be going home to visit my parents, so Hen will be coming with me. I know he'll be glad to see his buddy Meer, but I KNOW he's going to go nuts over the Christmas tree.
All my moms cats have always pretty much left the tree alone, but I just know that's not going to be the case with Henry. Oh well, it had to happen some time.

One year, long ago, I tried to keep the cats away from the tree by spraying the tree skirt with some OTC cat repellant spray. It made the whole room stink to high heaven--repelled everyone! Citrus sounds much nicer. Maybe hang some tangerines on the tree? They're my favorite at Christmastime.
