  1. The cooler weather this morning is driving my boys bananas!!! They are running and chasing all over the place.

I'm going to work on my Christmas cards today - I still haven't written any! Arrrrgh! I don't have to go to work until 4:30, so I have time today.

  2. oh gosh, I haven't even thought about christmas cards! You just reminded me GD, I'd better get a move on! Off to get my daughter from school now, see you all later :)

  4. Hey Poochi - did you see the Thanksgiving Day parade?

Posted 3 years ago by JoanfromNewJersey #

  5. hi joan
no i'm sorry to say i didn't. i basically don't watch any tv, know i'm an odd duck, but got out of the habit about 5 years ago, when i found the early news programs were getting me stressed out before the day even started. i was working fulltime then and just decided not to put the tv on in the am when i was getting ready for work. i must say i really don't miss it at all and i was basically a very dedicated tv watcher at one time. funny how things and habits in life change.

    Posted 3 years ago by poochi7 #

  6. Actually, it's admirable that you don't watch too much tv. The boob-tube, as my Dad called it! Do you ever go to the parade? I would love to go; it's just that I'm such a country mouse the crowds would make me crazy! I did enjoy watching it on tv, though. It was a beautiful day.

Posted 3 years ago by JoanfromNewJersey #

  7. many years ago, when i was young, i went to the parade. but not for many years would i venture into the city into the crowds, don't mean to sound like an old fogy, but i have had enough of ny crowds in my working days. :)

    Posted 3 years ago by poochi7 #

  8. and yes, watching the parade on tv is the best plan. i mostly see tv when i am visiting someone, other than that, i watch dvd's, surf the web, read, do some crafts, and of course supervise the crowd at home!

  9. Morning all! I'm proud to report that Lady actually jumped up on the arm of the couch last night! Woo Hoo!!! (She's been sick, for y'all that don't know.)

Posted 3 years ago by Bellantara #

  10. Awwwww. She's feeling better then?

Posted 3 years ago by GreatDane #

  11. That's great news Bellantara! Our pointsettia is on hubby's dresser and Leela hasn't been on it...yet. So I think she's safe from it. Any hint of interest in it, though, and we'll relocate it. It's the very same dresser Shaddo used to dive-bomb to the bed from - quite a shocker in the middle of the night!

Posted 3 years ago by JoanfromNewJersey #

  12. She's much better, GD. She's moving slower than she did before she got sick, but otherwise seems fine. I've started giving her medicine for her joints, because I suspect she's getting arthritis.

Posted 3 years ago by Bellantara #

  13. I just watched poor Cuddles go down the stairs! This colder weather makes her joints so stiff - poor baby. Especially her back hip joints! We are finally managing to get her pills down her, and she is using her litter box again, so I'm thinking if she did have a UTI (and we'll never know for sure!) it must be getting better. I wonder if she injured herself during the "incident" at the vet. She is always so mean when anyone tries to touch her, and I've tried to watch her closely - hard for me to tell .... she's always stiff. Doesnt' have a problem jumping over things or up on a bed , and nothing unusual when she's
just lying around... I don't know, maybe I'm imaging things!!

  14. Abbi, I give my cats Cosequin which helps joint function. You just sprinkle it on some wet foot and they gobble it up. It also supports good bladder function in cats as well. You might want to give it a try this winter for cuddles. It is a glucosamine and coindroitin blend that is flavored. It is available at any vets and through many pet medication/supply sites. It is non-prescription so it doesn't require a seperate vet visit.

Hi everyone! Hope you are are having a good Tuesday!

  15. Good morning all. I received some very nice Christmas cards yesterday. Thank you for them. I hope to get mine out by this weekend. I was going to do some last night but just didn't have the energy. I was up till 1am on Sunday night and then last night my stupid upstairs neighbor was making so much noise with walking around that I didn't get to sleep till 11:30 and then they were up around 1:30am walking around again which of course woke me. When they walk they make the floor make loud popping and creaking noises (my white noise machine cannot cover those loud popping noises). I mentioned this to my property manager the other day and she said that there are no wooden floors so she doesn't understand how I can be hearing that noise. She said the floor is concrete. So how am I hearing this popping and creaking noise like there are old wooden floors? Maybe there floor support beams in the floor? It has me baffled as well as frustrated. I really hope a third floor unit opens up soon.

GD, that is great that Bobby did the blankie/purring last night and that they didn't fight either. Boys you be good and let your momma sleep.

AV, hope a good job offer comes your way soon.

Bellantara, glad to Lady is doing better.

Katy, welcome to TDK. My kitties send your Whiskers a friends invite. My first kitty was named Whiskers.

I am going to Starbucks to get that espresso truffle drink. It sounds so yummy. Here is the description from their website:

    Espresso Truffle
We’ve combined Starbucks espresso with our premium European-style cocoa blend used in our Signature Hot Chocolate and steamed milk, and topped it with whipped cream and a touch of chocolate powder. This sophisticated beverage delivers rich chocolate flavor with a velvety mouthfeel balanced with a smooth coffee flavor.

  16. My hamster is dying :( Found him lying in his cage, still breathing but cold and not moving so I lifted him into his little bed where I hope he is warm and not in pain. I know it sounds silly being sad about a hamster but we had him over 2 years and he was a lovely little friendly guy who made me laugh with his hamster antics! My daughter is really upset which makes me sadder! Glad we gave him a nice life though!
Sorry, I know this sounds silly, just needed to share!

Posted 3 years ago by Katy in the UK #

  17. That's sad about your hamster. I think they are so fun to watch and can be fun pets. Their short life span, however, is one reason I don't get one.

Posted 3 years ago by LadyKat of IA #

  18. KK, good to know about the Cosequin - I'll ask my vet about it. Sorry about the hamster KUK - my kids had many over the years, unfortunately, 2 years is about the average life span! One of our hamsters used to somehow always get out of his cage - called him Houdini!! anyway, he didnt't really want to go anywhere, he'd just play around in my son's room and at night he would always crawl up on the bed and curl up with my son, so if we couldn't find him earlier, we could always catch him there. Cute little guy!

Posted 3 years ago by AV #

  19. yes, that is the only problem with hamsters, the short life span! Houdini sounds like he was really cute AV!

  20. We had a hamster once, well more than once, his name was Squirmy Bubba. He always broke out of his cage and we would capture him. He loved to ride in my overalls pocket (the big pocket at the top). His last escape was just that, we didn't see him again. Squirmy Bubba was with us for about 2 years. He was the sweetest little creature.

Posted 3 years ago by tinafishfrombirthplaceofElvis #

  21. Squirmy Bubba! Like the name! Ours was called Sophie, despite being a boy! In fact his full name was 'Miss Sophie Steve Hamster' My daughter named him, I would just like to point that out!

Posted 3 years ago by Katy in the UK #

  22. So sorry to hear about your hamster, Katy. :-(. We can't get hamsters in NZ and I have always wanted one, as has my niece Airyshone who, now she is in the USA, can't wait to get one once she has a job. As for the name, I fully understand. My friend's son had a guinea pig which he named Steve and it just seemed so inappropriate!

Posted 3 years ago by KapitiKats in NZ #

  23. I'm so sorry about Sophie, Katy!
KK, why can't you have hamsters in NZ?

Posted 3 years ago by GreatDane #

  24. A hamster-free country! How sad! Lucky they're not cat-free too!

Posted 3 years ago by Katy in the UK #

  25. GD - not entirely sure. We are allowed guinea pigs. We have pretty strict bio-security so I guess hamsters were felt to be a threat of some kind to our very unique and often endangered native wildlife. But our colonial masters (yes - you lot in the UK) did introduce many other things which are now pests eg. rabbits. Thank goodness we have no snakes though.

  26. AV... Re: Cosequin.... I have been giving our 14 yr.old Cosequin for 3 months now.(1 cap daily). Not only her age, but she is very overweight, and was starting to take a few steps, then would stop to rest. After the first week, I saw a big improvement.....after 2 weeks she would walk from one end of the house to the other without stopping. I have been ordering it from entirelypets.com..... It was 17.95, for the 80 capusules, plus 4.95 shipping. This last order was placed on a Sunday afternoon, and arrived Wednesday morning in my mailbox. Not bad coming from CA.

  27. Katy, I'm so sorry about your hamster and it doesn't sound odd at all to be sad about him. They are adorable and so much fun to watch. Poor little Sophie!

AV, that is such an odd coincidence about your hamster. I've been off all morning at my book group and the book we read this month is called The Secret Life of Houdini!

Posted 3 years ago by WillowandWindismom #

  28. 12P, thanks I'll check out that med site. I do like to hear tried and true sites, I'm always a little skeptical about ordering from somewhere online that I don't know. Thanks for the ref!
WWM - Houdini - also one of my favorite old movie classics... I think it stars Tony Curtis (but I could be wrong)... but what a great movie!! Always loved the water trick scenes - still scares me so!

Posted 3 years ago by AV #

  29. KK - how funny NZ would allow guinea (man I need a dictionary to post!LOL) pigs, but not hamsters. My son (owner of many kinds of animals) has guinea pigs, and peeeewwwwweeeee!!! Those things are stinky!! Hamsters are a much smaller (and much less stinky version)!! Who knew??

Posted 3 years ago by AV #

  30. Now that's too funny, AV. Since my book group was reading that book I rented the movie Houdini from netflix and we just watched it Saturday. It is starring Tony Curtis! And Janet Leigh - both very young. I think it was released in 1953! But it was actually pretty good. Not too accurate, but very entertaining.
