  1. GD - you need to get some money upfront for these jobs. Lots of these people require 50% upfront. Especially people who have used you before, and know how dependable you are, should be happy to give 50% up front, and the balance upon completion of the job. Just about all service industries - and handy man or repair work, any pre-ordering, etc. do this. It's a reasonable request, and at least you wouldn't be out the whole fee if they shanked on you. You could ask them to leave the money in an envelope on the counter, so that you will get it when you come to do the job. That way they would know for sure you'd been there; then have them leave the balance on the last day of your job - this would assume it was for a few days. If it's a one time thing, I'd have them leave the entire fee. You show up to do the job, you get paid. It's only fair.

  2. Good morning, all!

AV - Don't ask! They're endlessly inventive about meds. Just last night Sam sneezed a full dose of ferrous sulfate right back in my face. Must look around now for a medical supply house to get a face guard. Secondhand ferrous sulfate with fish breath is so not pleasant.

Have just ducked in out of the fog (yes, we do have fog in the San Fernando Valley -- once in a while) for a quick cup of hot coffee and one of those glazed cinnamon roll thingys they used to sell at Winchell's doughnuts. Crunchy and sweet on the outside, soft and cinnamon-y on the inside. Then I will have to pound keyboard for work.

    Cheers!

  4. LOL - I've used the term "personal summer" for quite a while now. And you can always tell who is getting to enjoy one when you are in a restaurant and a crazed woman suddenly grabs her water glass and dumps the contents on her head.

GD, maybe the delay is good. You can look through magazines for a hair cut that you like. But, DO NOT cut off all of that beautiful hair!!! And please don't color it eggplant.....

  5. Hi,all. Popping back in quickly before lunch arrives. We ordered Chinese food today and are looking forward to it.
This morning got very hectic at work and doesn't look much better after lunch. Lots of stuff coming in all at one time.
If I don't get back to the cafe, everyone have a great afternoon and see you tomorrow.

  9. No problem ! We had a thread quite a while back with the differences in the language on each side of the pond. Rather entertaining ! LOL

Posted 3 years ago by 2 Popoki #

  10. I like learning these little differences, few more months and I will be fluent in American!
Hope everyones having a good day. Been cold here today, all the cars had ice on them this morning but the ice was in a weird pattern, kinda like feathers! It was really pretty till I sprayed de-icer all over it! Strange!

Also laughing about KUK inquiring about "hump day"..... could mean an entirely different thing in Egypt - LOL!!! visions of the yodeling camel dancers keep poppin in head!!!!

When my family was in the UK a few years ago, we had to get use to the "lingo" too.. didn't take long to figure out what the "loo" was, but never did get the humpback pelican crossing signs.... KUK, what do they mean???

Posted 3 years ago by AV #

  14. The first time that we went to England we had a terrible time with "chips". We asked for potato chips to have with a beer and needless to say what we got was not out of a bag. Who knew that in the UK "chips" are what we call french fries?

Posted 3 years ago by WillowandWindismom #

  15. lol, yes, we only call them 'fries' if they are those really thin ones like you get in macdonalds! Chips are called crisps here!

Posted 3 years ago by Katy in the UK #

  16. Crisps - I keep forgetting! When we were in London this summer with MCW,Rubia and Polly's Mum we had to try mushy peas and bubble and squeak. The bubble and squeak was delicious. The mushy peas tasted like (yuck) baby food.

Katy, it WAS a rubbish summer this year, I work for a sports wear company, predominantly cricket orientated, and this season was pretty much a total washout!

Posted 3 years ago by MadcatwomanintheUK #
