  1. Last Tuesday, I had sort of a stomach ache, but, as we women are wont to do, I just lived with it through the day. But by 11 that night, I felt like it was something that needed more than a Tums to fix. Had to call 911 and went to the hospital, where a CT scan showed a "very bad" appendix. Had surgery on Weds. night, and just got home yesterday around noon.

    I had just been gone for 5 days over the Thanksgiving holiday, then another 5 days in the hospital, so Max and Molly aren't even letting me out of their sight right now!! I missed you all-and my kitties, too.

  2. Glad you're home and feeling better, 3M. Keep your feet up for a couple of days and let the kitties apply their own form of feline healing. They're so good at that. {{{Hugs}}}

  11. Geez, M&M - I'm glad you got that diagnosed before it ruptured. Now rest and let the healing kitties do their job :)

  12. Ack!!!! I had wondered where you were, MMM!!! Thank goodness that you went to the hospital. A bad appendix can turn really bad (as in deadly bad). I'm so glad that you went!

    Now, this is my nursing advice. Put on your most ratty PJ's and robe. Sit in an oversized chair looking forlorn (the oversized chair will make you look small and vulnerable). If anyone even mentions the dreaded words, "What's for dinner?", moan loudly and place your hand over your scar. If necessary, apply powder to get that pale glow.

    Repeat as necessary!

    Get well soon!!!!

  13. Holy cow, MM&M! Glad you had the insight to go to call 911. A burst appendix can cause a lot of health problems. I had a roommate many years ago who had a appendix that burst and she kept having to go and have operations due to the scar tissue causing problems with her intestines. She was only 23 yrs of age.

  14. Thank you all for your good wishes. Although, Susie, I was certainly NOT waited on hand and foot. This was the most horrendous stay I've ever had in a hospital, and I will not go back to this one. It's a local hospital, just a few blocks from me, newly remodeled on the outside and looking pretty spiffy. But they are totally understaffed, in both medical and housekeeping, as my side of the room, which was made for only one person, was not even cleaned the 5 days I was there. They have poor (outdated) medical equipment, their food service is the kind you have nightmares about, I could go on and on. To top it off, my first roommate (mind you, this room was made for only one person) was the bride of satan (and a drama queen), and the second one was on the phone incessantly (till after 2 in the morning the night she came in). I AM SO GLAD TO BE HOME AND FOR SO MANY REASONS-at least I can sleep now! And I have two very fine furry feline nurses who are by my side at all times.

  15. Yep, hospitals are no place to get any sleep, that's for sure.

    MMM, when you feel up to it, you really should write a letter to the CEO of that hospital. If there was a nursing problem, I would copy the Director of Nursing. They need to know that there were problems.

  16. Oh my goodness M&MM, I am sure glad you went to the hospital & got this handled so quickly. I am sorry you had a bad stay in the hospital. Take care of yourself & make everybody papmer you now!! {{{HUGS}}}

  17. Wish I had somebody to pamper me, BMM, but all I have are Max and Molly--not to say they don't do a good job!

    I can't believe how much your avatar looks like my Max (I've got Molly's pic on right now).

    Thanks for the hugs.

  18. MMM, thank goodness you are okay. I had the same issue 8 years ago with my appendix. I am glad you are home safe and sound. Take it easy and rest while you can :) ((MMM))

  19. WWM-I intend to write a letter to somebody, that's for sure. One of my best girlfriends has a daughter with many years of nursing experience, and she was let go a couple of months ago--no reason except that she had her own health problems which caused her to be off occasionally. Anyway, Jayne Marie was one of the best and had loads of experience, but they still let her go. These younger ones don't have the patience, dedication, or bedside manner--and the last day I was there, my nurse said "we don't usually have surgical patients on this floor, so I'm not sure of what to do"--that really made me feel good!

  20. Yes Booger & Max do look alike don't they. If I was there I would pamper you!! I hope you feel better real soon.

  21. Ouch! M&M! I know how these unexpected upsets can appear from nowhere. I had my first and hopefully only heart attack on Nov.15th..came home on the 17th with a fist full of pills and instructions to quit smoking. I'm so glad you're home and with your babies again. I'm sure they were very confused & anxious with your absence. Welcome back to us! =)

  25. I have it on good authority from my 5 furrkids, that cat naps are crucial for a speedy recovery! Get well soon and get lots of catnaps.

  26. Awwww..{{{Luv You 2 Susie}}}

    Posted 3 years ago by Karenopa #

  27. Oh no, MMM! I had wondered where you were! What a scare - I am happy you got to the hospital before the appendix burst! Tell Max and Molly they have to be very good and help you recover! ((hugs))

  28. Hmmm, I used to work on a surgical unit, MMM. We would sometimes receive patients from other units, like a C-section if postpartum was full. But never did a surgical patient go to another unit. I do wonder what unit you were on. And that is patient negligence to assign a patient to a nurse that "doesn't know what to do".

    You would think, with the critical shortage of nurses, that hospitals would be falling all over themselves to retain their experienced nurses. But I'll bet that it had something to do with reducing costs by getting rid of nurses who had been around long enough to be costing the hospital more in benefits.

    Sadly, patient care is not the focus of our health industry anymore. That's the very reason why lots of us have left actively working in our nursing profession.
