  1. Many of you know that I went through hell last June when three of my cats escaped out a window while I was away at a conference. It took three sleepless nights, but I finally found them, one by one (and was just bragging about that the other day in anotehr thread).
This morning, as I was loading them into the car to drive to our new home in Ohio, the same three -- Charlie, Eddie and CocoPuff -- escaped again. (My bad strategy, but that's a topic for later). They're terrified and shot full of adrenaline and I have no time to search for them -- but I have to. I love them so much, and they're so unfamiliar with the outdoors.
I can't be here to actually see your comforting words (which I know will follow) but please, please send good energy to my beloved Lost Boys and pray that we find each other again. I can't believe this happened at all, let alone when we are under such enormous pressure. My husband and I are both hysterical, which isn't helping. Whatever god you pray to, please add a word for my sweet kitties to come home safe.

  2. Angela, prayers are going out for you.

  3. AngelaMotorman, as best as I can, as hard as I can, I'm crying and praying at the same time. Please, please, Lord, help them find their kitties. They are much loved and must be so scared. In the name of Thy Son, Jesus Christ, Amen.

  6. Angela...is there any way you can stay put until they're caught again. It would be a total change of plans, but,I know your babies are worth it...I wish I could be there in the flesh for you, because I've always been pretty good w/gathering up escaped animals. They seem to trust me that way. Since I can't,I will focus on loving thoughts & Big time Prayers that your sweeties come back to you quickly. Just sit out on the ground at there level where you saw them run to w/their favorite food & call them. Even if you don't see them, they can hear you. Be sure of that. Best of luck to you. Hugs. Susie

  8. Prayers and good thoughts!

  9. Thank you, everybody. I can't believe I was so stupid. I thought I could
    (a) skip the $38 feliway, and
    (b) hand carry the cats out to the kennel already in the car.
In retrospect, this is so stupid it's insane.
First the mellowest cat, Charlie, shredded my husband's hand to the extent that he dropped the cat, then CocoPuff flew out the door of the kennel that had been opened to put both Charlie and Eddie in at once (another stupid idea). Eddie, the smallest, the cuddlebug, was still in the kennel until I had the bright idea to carry the whole apparatus back up onto the porch and into the house -- at which point the floor of the kennel shifted, letting him drop out through the much larger spaces below the tray.
    WHAT WAS I THINKING????
Please don't tell me to beat myself up -- I deserve it in this case.
I won't let that emotion stop me from working effectively as possible to find them -- if I don't, I'll have years to beat myself up.
As for sticking around: We have to be out of here by midnight Wednesday (evil landlord threatening three-day eviction in return for us reporting him to the City inspectors for massive structural code violations). This was to be the pre-move, with five of the 7 cats. I'm not going anywhere until Wed. night at this point, and if I can figure out a way to stay even a day longer I will. I will drive BACK here, 8 hours, if my neighbor finds one of them coming around for food. That's all I can do.
Except cry, and pack, which is what I'm up to now.
We're about to be cut off from internet, so I really won't be here. But please do comment if you feel it -- I'll be back eventually, and will read and appreciate every word.
Thank you for all your support. I hope this helps someone else avoid the same stupid mistakes. We should have loaded the kennel in the house, and carried it out to the car with the cats in it, and I should have sedated them someway. I tried to cut corners, and it was the most expensive "economy" ever.

  10. Uh, that should be:
Please don't tell me NOT to beat myself up.
Being in too much of a hurry was the first mistake.
    I'm a slow learner.

  11. Angela --- Oh my goodness, my prayers are winging their way to you and the cats. Dear Lord please guide those three naughty kittens safely back to mommy and daddy. I really believe you will catch them.

  12. This is just my opinion...if it were me,i'd delay taking the loaded car anywhere, grab my sleeping bag & be camping outside in the wild till they came to me. It's good that you have till Wednesday. Finding them would be my #1 priority before anything else. I'd even quit my job(if I had one right now) to stay behind. I wish to God I could be there to helpyou find them. Again,Good Luck & Prayers that they come back quickly.

  16. Sharon, hindsight is great, please don't beat yourself up. I bet there's not one of us that hasn't done something stupid and cursed ourselves many times over. I'm praying really hard that you'll find all three soon, and be able to set off for your new home. xx

Please consider borrowing or renting humane cat traps from the humane society.
    Good luck.

  18. Angela, I pray your "Lost Boys" get hungry and decide to come home tonight or within the next day. I understand what you are feeling due to my experience of Sylvester escaping out the front door and disappearing for seven hours. My jerk of a husband left the door slightly closed but didn't make sure he heard the click of the door closing firmly when he went to go do laundry. Sylvester managed to use his claws to pry open the door that was slightly open. I was frantic and upset and when Sylvester finally showed up at almost 5 am, I was estatic and vowed never to let him outside even on the top of the landing of my stairs at my old apartment.

Prayers, hugs and purrs that you find your fur babies soon.

  19. Oh, Angela, I'm so sorry to hear your boys got away! If they've gotten out before and returned, hopefully they will this time, as well. I'm praying for their safe return! Hugs!

  20. Angela, you are in my prayers-I know it feels like losing a family member-that is how much our kits mean to us. I pray for their
safe return very soon-please take care of yourself also,ok? Love and hugs, ginger (rainingwolf)

  23. MCW, I figured you would catch that, no prob. AM appreciates your support.

  24. UPDATE:
Charlie is home. He's the mellow yellow fellow who started all this by biting my husband. He couldn't resist the sound of a tiny can pop top lid being pulled off, followed by the sound of a fork fluffing his Friskies on a Corelle plate. (Boy, does THAT sound carry!)
I'm pretty sure I saw Eddie, the little grey tabby lovebug, and maybe also CocoPuff, in the woods behind our house. I have put 20 BIG (8 1/2 X 14) color flyers with good photos of all three on lampposts all around the neighborhood and at the two most heavily frequented stores two blocks away (CVS and a health food store). I figure God (whichever one) helps those who helps themselves.
Sharon, thank you for your heroic offer to drive tow hours to help, but I think my voice and my husband's are what will do the trick. Just cuddle your kitties and think good thoughts.
You all are awesome in your generosity of spirit.
I paid the Comcast bill, so I'll post again if/when I get the kitties back. Right now, I'm going to eat and then go lie out back and sing silly songs for cats.

  25. One back and two to go!! Great news, Angela. I have faith that the other two will find their way home soon. Good luck on catching them. Hold them close. Have a great move. {{{hugs}}}

  26. We are only a phone call away and the offer still stands. The moment I read your post I felt it deep in my stomach. And I used to commute to Knoxville so two hours is nothing. Will keep checking back for progress while you sing your siren songs for kitties.

  27. Good luck catching your other 2 babies Angela! Prayers and positive thoughts coming your way.

  28. Angela... It really bothered me when you first reported your babies darting, but,my gut told me that they would start coming back to you. I breathed a deep sigh of relief when I read that Charlie showed up. Isn't it the greatest feeling. Camp out in your backyard if you have...well,at least I would...I'm wired weird I guess. I'm almost certain they'll be home by tonight, especially if they can see you as well as hear you. Best of luck to you & hubby

  29. I think Susie is right,Angela.Bless you,Sharon, for being there for her when the rest of us can't! You truly are an angel on earth.Hang tight AM,I pray Eddie and CocoPuff will follow Charlie's example and be lured by the sights, sounds and SMELLS of home!! God bless,AM!

Posted 4 years ago by Tigger #

  30. Angela - That is great news that Charlie is back! I'm sure the other 2 will follow suit when they get tired of their little adventure. I wish I could come and help with the search, but I'm afraid I'm a bit too far away. So, I'm sending loads of positive energy and lots of hugs for you.
