Dental funds

(14 posts)
  1. The church has begun collecting funds for Mr. Leeny's dental work. They're trying to see how much they can raise by Christmas. A letter was given to congregation members about a week and a half ago.

Some TDKers have suggested I set up a ChipIn page for donations. Because the funds are going to be processed through the denominational benevolence organization, though, I thought I would just post the information from the letter, and anyone who is able and would like to contribute can do so that way. Checks should be made payable to "Athens Thrivent" (the benevolence organization is called Thrivent Financial) and the memo line should specify "dental treatment donation". Checks should be mailed to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 800 West Lake Drive, Athens, GA 30606.

  7. Well, we are halfway there! I found out last night from the woman in our congregation who is on the Thrivent board that they had, as of yesterday, received $900 in donations to Mr. Leeny's dental surgery--quite a large amount especially in December, with so many other things going on. Added to the $450 that was donated before I got turned down for the loan, we now have $1350 of the $2600 we need for the procedure.

The Thrivent board member said that more money may come in from the congregation, and that is possible. One person spoke to me on Sunday who had been wanting to contribute but didn't realize that the letter from Thrivent, which didn't use names, was about Mr. Leeny. Another, to whom I spoke yesterday, hadn't seen the letter yet because she seldom checks her box; she wants to post it where she works. Today I will mail a copy of the letter to the best man at our wedding. He wants to send some money and to show the letter to some other people he knows who may want to help. Mr. Leeny's sister said she would try to send something the beginning of January--Nole's final illness and Christmas have them tapped out for this month. So, things seem to be going along nicely here.

  8. Leeny, I'm so pleased to hear that the fundraising is going so well! I hope and pray that friends will be able to contribute further, and that Mr. Leeny's teeth problems will soon be a thing of the past.

  13. Just wanted to share something humorous. I just talked to the Temp on the phone, and he told me that someone associated with the Thrivent board called this project the Tooth Fairy Fund. The teeth are costing $101 dollars each to come out; I bet no child ever found that under the pillow in the morning!

  14. I know I never received that much, but maybe some of the rich people (Paris Hilton, perhaps?) got $101 or the equivalent!
