Mornin' all!
I remember seeing Pedialyte mentionned on posts (I think in regards to feeding kittens) and wondered if it's considered safe to give a 4 year old kitty? Linus is SO thin, and not really interested in food...he'll lap up the liquid from canned/pouch food, but barely touches the solid portion..I cooked up some plain chicken breasts yesterday and got him to eat some of it, but a struggle..I have a call into the vet and should hear from her sometime today, but very concerned about "fatty liver" if his appetite doesn't pick up soon..He is eating, but very very small amounts..

Yep it is safe for an kitty older than a kitten. It helps with dehydration if nothing else.

To the best of my knowledge, Pedialyte is safe to administer to animals who are suffering from dehydration, no matter their age.

Could it be his teeth Sullis? Just a suggestion. Sammy had the beginnings of gingivitis and needed his teeth cleaned at 3 1/2 yrs of age and all he eats is dry food! Maybe if his mouth is sore, he doesn't like to eat solids.

I have a kitty that did not like canned food at all but he began lapping the gravy from Hormel Roast Beef au jus. I decided to try taking a "pate'" style canned food (not easy to find these days) and mix in water until it was a soupy consistency. Tommy will eat this.
You might want to try this method of nourishing your kitty.
If you are not going yet, you still need to get this baby to the vet.

Tks all!
Yep, he's going in to the vet this afternoon...His teeth and gums are healthy; just a general disinterest in food..ate some boiled chicken for me the past few days but it's a struggle to entice him..figured I'd give the Pedialyte stuff a try. I did get him to eat some treats...I figure at this point, anything that gets him interested in eating again is a good thing..his medicine dosage was just adjusted, and could be the cause, so we'll see what the vet has to say
Tks again for your suggestions! :) -
Another thing you might try ... If you have a blender (a hand-held one is nice but a big one works, too), try puree-ing or even liquifying his solid food with some tasty liquid such as gravy, low-sodium broth, etc. I did this for Sam and it worked pretty good.

When you go to the vet, ask whether a B-12 shot would be advantageous for him...they did that for Max and it helped a bit with his appetite.

They gave him one yesterday! She called it a "Dr Feel-good shot" (which frankly scared the heck out of me!) but it was a Depo-Medrol/vit B12 shot...
His appetite has improved a bit; I still have to sit with him and coax him to eat; but he seems more alert and his eyes have that brightness back...She thinks it was a combo of the surgery and being off his usual steroid dose for a few days..but he definitely seems greatly improved..stitches out early next week, then a complete bloodworkup, then maybe a novel-protein diet for the IBD..hopefully we find something that he likes to eat! (My other 2 think Christmas has come early; everytime I try to get food into Linus, they're shouldering their way in for a taste!)
