Hello everyone! I was wondering if there was anyone out there that can give us some advise on 9 little bundles of joy we found under our wood pile? We would love to give them all a home, but the cost of spaying and neutering at our local vet would mean we would have to sell the car and remortgage the house! Could someone please help us to find a low cost area? I cant take them to the SPCA, and we have a home we would be happy to share with them all. If someone could give us some advise, we would greatly appreciate your help!

Hi Lornemarie,
Where are you located? If we know that, chances are someone can find for you a cat rescue group that subsidizes spay/neuter. Also, your local goverment may do
that. Don't dismiss the idea of the Humane Society until you talk with them. And by all means check with Alleycat Allies, the national feral cat group in the US.Posted 4 years ago by AngelaMotorman #

Lornemarie, I will echo Angela; where are you located? That will help tremendously with tracking down resources.
In my area, there are several groups that will help, but I've gotten the most help from No More Homeless Pets in (local city). I have 7 cats scheduled to go in for spay & neuter surgeries, rabies & 5-in-1 shots on December 16th. I explained my financial concerns (so many all at once!), and they reduced the price to less than $20 each.

Lornemarie, please post again & let us know the general area where you're located. Alley Cat Allies is a good start! But we may be able to find additional resources that are local to your area.

Sorry, I should have stated we live in York Pennsylvania. I heard there is a place in Maryland, but I have no idea of the name. We really want to keep them all, its just the cost of the initial "fixing" that is causing the problem. The local SPCA only refered me to PAWS, but even then, the cost of out of my league. I really appreciate any help you can give me.

Well, heck, it looks like there used to be a group in Harrisburg (Elizabethtown), Stray Cat Alliance, but not any longer.
Hmm… PAWS is listed. How much are they asking per kitten? Did you explain that you have financial difficulty? Is there any chance you could get all the boys fixed one month, the girls the next month?
Wherever you call, please make sure you indicate the situation is that of finding 9 feral kittens, wanting to do the right thing and get them all fixed, but having limited funds. Indicate that you’re planning to keep them & take care of them; just need to get them all fixed & rabies shots (distemper would be good, too, but rabies is probably required by law).
The Federated Humane Societies of PA have a link where you can find organizations by county:

Hope Animal Sanctuary holds frequent, affordable and convenient spa/neuter clinics throughout the city (Philadelphia?).
For specific costs, dates and times, please contact them now:
Call: 1-800-738-HOPE
Email: spayneuter@hopeanimalsanctuary.org
Visit: www.hopeanimalsanctuary.orgUnfortunately, the following group seems focused on Philadelphia, only. Do you have a friend in Philly?

(Their fees seem steep, though there are conditions that can gain additional discounts. They have an email specifically for ferals; you might try that.)
Let us all know when you find an organization willing to help you out. Please let us know if you aren’t able to find an organization able to help you to the degree that you need. I’m not sure, but there might be a chance that TDK fund could help; that’s really not up to me, though.
Good luck! Been there, done that… so glad there are now several local organizations doing GREAT work where I live! I could not have done the TNRs I’ve done, so far, without their help.

Thanks for your help with this. PAWS will charge $85.00 each, and that just covers the cost of neutering. I dread to think what the girls will cost. I dont know how, but I will have to find a way. I cant possibly drop them off at the SPCA, they are bulging at the seams. It never ceases to amaze me, the shear stupidity of people when it comes to having their pets fixed. How many more of these precious little bundles will not get a good home? It breaks my heart. I was told of somewhere in Maryland, but for the life of me, I cannot remember the name. They apparently are ran by Vets that donate their time, bless their hearts. If anyone can come up with any more suggestions, I would really appreciate it. Thanks everyone for all your help. I cant give them up now, they already have names!

Lornemarie! Good news!

Look especially at Animal Rescue, Inc. They have an email address, and some of the most reasonable prices I've seen. And they're near the MD/PA border.
However, LOTS of great resources for the areas!

Thank you so much! Not only have I been blessed with these little fur balls, I have also found wonderful people on this website to help me. Thank you everyone, and bless your hearts. I was beginning to think I was the only one out there who cared about these little cherubs.

Lornemarie, please keep us informed. There are a few of us here who do trap-neuter-return for ferals, and who work hard to get strays altered, too. I'd be interested in knowing which organization is able to help you out. It's worth driving some distance, each way, to get these kittens taken care of; breaking that cycle of reproduction is so crucial to addressing the pet overpopulation problem.
