  1. It has been 1 year and 1 week since my son was burned--believe me the holidays will be MUCH happier this year!! I still am convinced that he lived due to all the prayers that came his way. He and his wife hosted a Christmas party in their new home this past Saturday and he is doing great! He still has a long way to go, but is pretty much self-sufficient. He is getting out more although the cold and wind bother him a lot. There will be surgeries in the years ahead and he will not be able to be out in the sun for at least another year and a half, but his progress is amazing. He can dial and talk on the phone so we speak a couple of times a week. And he walked me down the aisle a few weeks ago--it was one of the proudest moments of my life!! I just wanted to say thanks to all of you who lifted him and his family and me up in your prayers. Merry Christmas!!!!

  21. I was not on TDK a year ago (I joined in Feb) but it sounds like your son and your family has gone through quite the ordeal, to say the least. Glad to hear that he's doing well.

I know someone who was badly burned (self-inflicted, unfortunately... it was a failed suicide attempt) but he was depressed (obviously) and ended up succeeding by OD-ing about 3 years after he set himself on fire. Terrible story. I hope and pray that this was nothing like that (it doesn't sound like it from the tone of your post, so that's good) And again, I'm happy to hear that your son's doing relatively well, even though he'll still need quite a few surgeries in the future.

And VERY cool that he walked you down the aisle... what an awesome tribute to your relationship :)

God bless you and him and your family this Christmas and into the new year!
(and congrats on the recent nuptials!) :)

  23. I'm so happy to read your post, Shelley. How well I remember a year ago! Sloopy, Shelley's son Larry was critically burned in an accident at home. It has been a very long, hard battle for Larry and his family as he recovers. Being able to walk Shelley down the aisle was a huge step for him. I'm so glad that he and his family are doing so much better this year.

  24. Shelley, you and Larry have both come a long way in the last year or so. Hopefully, now that his condition has improved, you both will find many more things to celebrate in the years to come.
