  4. GA, I'm so sorry about Sam. I've been a bit displaced today so I took Leela and have been at my sister's place all day. At the base of her Christmas tree, there's a bell that one of her kitties, Ranger, rings from time to time. We are certain that he rings the bell when a kitty goes to the Bridge, just as he did last January 3 for my Jiggs. He just rang the bell as I started to read this thread. Sam has his wings.

  7. Tears start flowing every time I read about someone losing their baby. It's heart breaking. But they are in a better place where pain is non existent and they have couches and chairs aplenty to scratch to their heart's content.

Almost two years ago I lost my baby. She was 14 years old, her kidney's were failing and she started losing weight. My mom decided to take her to the vet to see if we could do anything, and I went to, just to see what the vet said. She said that there was nothing we could do, and the best thing would be to end her suffering. I knew something was really wrong when she was silent on the way to the vet. She was normally very vocal on car rides. And she actually sat in my lap in the office. My mom and I cried and said our good byes. I miss her dearly.

  8. As others have said, it was Sam's time. We all should remember that kitties, like everything else, belong to God (or the higher power of your choice.) We are only His caretakers. GA, Sam was a great cat, had a great life, and was loved very much. I know how this hurts, and my heart goes out to you. Godspeed, Sweet Sam.

  13. I am so sorry about your loss of Sam. You have just gone through one of the worse things you will ever experience. The heartbreak is paralyzing. I hope you will visit my website and use the tools in the Dealing With Grief section. There is a lot of information there including hotline numbers in case you feel the need for immediate counselling. I seem to be repeating myself a lot recently and it never gets easier. I do hope it helps you struggle through this. (((((((((HUGS))))))))))

  14. Play in peace sweet Sam. The Rainbow bridge has lots of butterflies to chase, and plenty of soft grass to lie down in while basking in the sun.

*says a prayer for GA and sends lots of hugs*

  15. Bless you for helping Sam cross that bridge when he needed a bit of assistance. Sam will surely be met by so many others who have crossed before him and will show him all the sweet spots to lie in, where to find the coolest waters to drink from, and the best butterflies to chase. (((hugs)))

  19. Leeny, I went to gratefulness.org and it is a wonderful site.
I lit a candle there for all of us who have lost our kitties this
year, to remember the love they gave us.

  20. I am so sorry for your loss of your precious Sam! You gave him the best gift of all. I am off to light a candle too! He really loved you Gizzie!

  21. Sam yawns and blinks slowly. His fur is like satin, but Tessie and Kizzie are washing him anyway. The sun pours down on the three cats, and they are lithe and young and happy once more.

"Do you like it here?" purrs Daisy, settling down next to him. Her dark mask shines like mahogany in the sun, and she admires Sammy's lovely black and white coat.

"Ummmm," purrs Sammy, as Kizzie focuses on one ear.

"You should have seen it last week," and Bombalurina plumps down beside him. "Beautiful silver icicles, and warm snow, and the sky was so bright for the Birthday! It was warm, and dry, and fluffy -- even the Wolf played in the snow, and he is very dignified!"

Sultan walks majestically to the group of cats, and Willie, Mandy, and Skimbleshanks follow him, chatting about the new flowers and the bed of catnip growing near the Bridge.

Sammy blinks slowly, lulled to sleep in the Meadow, all his friends around him.

"Tag, you're it!" and Basil whooshes past him. Like lightning, the cats race after Basil, and Mr. Bug and Shaddo laugh to see them go. Jazz and Bob join the chase, and the furry crew storms across the green grass.

"Another quiet day in the Meadow," thinks the Wolf, and he smiles to himself.

  22. That is beautiful Emma. Tessie always washed Molly from the time Molly was a tiny kitten. This brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for the beautiful word picture.

  23. emma that is so beautiful ... it made me cry ( as usual) , i love your stories about my kizzy and all her new friends at the bridge... thank yo for thinking of my kizzy .. i wish i could hug you ...

  24. Emma,

Thank you so much for the story! We brought Sam's ashes home today. His doctor included a signed card, which I found very thoughtful. We will leave the box open and move him about all his favorite places for a while before deciding about a permanent resting place.

    Beth,

I think that Sam will get along well with Kizzy, Tessie and all the others at the Bridge as he was always Mr. Popularity at Kitty City (where we boarded him when we had to travel) despite being so dignified.
