1. 

   My kitty has a urinary tract infection.

   The Vet told me yesterday to give my kitty 1/2 a tablet of Baytril daily for 28 days.

   My Kitty fought me (and won) on swallowing the pill whole so I crushed the pill and put it in some food. Kitty ate most of the food but not all of it so Kitty did not get the full benefit of the medication.

   Does anybody here have any handy dandy suggestions on how to administer medication to a kitty in a way that both works and is somewhat enjoyable for both parties involved?

   Hi, Purrington, we had this same question a few days ago, I think. I wrap mine in cream cheese, someone else suggested peanut butter and there was mention of 'greenie' treat pill pockets. But I'm sure you'll get lots of suggestions so check back!

   Hi Purrington,
   I have always just held my kitty and opened their mouth, put the pill in the back of it and shut their mouth and rubbed their throat till they licked their nose or mouth then I knew they swallowed it. Others on this site have suggested Pill Pockets or a pill shooter(i think it's called).
   It's always a challenge to say the least to get our babies to take their medicine, isn't it! We love them anyway :)

   There are no PPs here in my neighbourhood so I have learned to torment my kitties. Once you learn the right movements it ain't so bad... If you hide pills in food the dosage will inevitably be less than 100%.

   My Bobby gets pills every day. I coat the pill very lightly in butter to make it go down easier. Then I just open his mouth and put it in. I end up by wiping the tiny little bit of butter left on my finger on his nose. He automatically swallows when licking it off.

   I prefer to dissolve the pill in a little water and then use an eye dropper to squirt it into the side of the mouth. The other way that worked for me is to get your kitty to open its mouth and pop the pill in as far back as you can then hold the jaw closed and lightly blow on its nose. It will swallow and lick its nose when you do that. Good luck.

   I tried blowing on Bobby's nose - he did NOT like that! He gets kind of panicky when I do it - though it did work!. That's why I do the butter on his nose instead.

   Cuddles who is impossible to do anything with, got a UTI about a month ago. After numerous tactics (she hated the pill pockets), (wouldn't eat her food with the pill crushed on it), (practically bit my fingers off trying to shove it to the back of her throat)..... finally, I tried peanutbutter and it worked like a charm. It was sticky enough as to where she couldn't spit it out, all I had to do was to put the pill in a little glob of it, and smear it on her roof mouth - I could get my fingers in & out of there quickly, and then she would just lick for awhile, and eventually it got swallowed!

    GD you need to blow very lightly on the nose. Slow long breath like you are blowing on a feather. Usually they like it or at least don't mind it.

    I think maybe I was doing it wrong, Petpntr. I think what I did was mostly blowing INTO his little nose. Poor Bobby, his Mama is a dork!

    LOL I suspected that GD. You aren't a dork almost everyone else I have ever mentioned this to said the same thing. Remember you aren't blowing out a match you are kind of caressing the nose with air, try it now up close and personal and see what happens.

    I think the nose licking comes in when you are holding his jaw closed in order for a pill to stay in his mouth. Maybe without his jaw being closed he licked his lips instead of licking his nose? Or maybe he is waiting for you to sing Happy Birthday.

    No, no, no. Bobby will not fail. You sure you are blowing on the right end of Bobby? It's the nose, a little down from the eyes and just above the mouth. Reverse it. Blow first and then sing. Maybe that will work.

    I just tried it on both of mine and it works. I must tell you that Bonnie also looked at me like I was a dork but she did lick her nose. I also thought of something else. Is Bobby's nose dry? If it is wet then he probably won't feel the need to lick it after blowing so wipe his nose first. Get nose to nose, purse lips (yours not his) and blow lightly until he licks. A slow, steady stream of air, not just a puff and you're done. Viola!

    If this doesn't work then we are going to have to have a general consensus to see if this technique is still valid. Despite years of using it I will be prepared to admit defeat if everyone else on the list blows on their cats noses and not have them lick.

    I am thinking I may not be describing this properly. If you are or were a smoker, think about blowing the smoke out of your mouth. When you blow on your cats nose do it at about 1/3 the power you would blow smoke out of your mouth. It's just a very light "breeze"

    Note to self: work on description of blowing on cats nose.
    Note to Bobby: remember the little red engine. I think you can, I think you can, I think you can.
