  3. Morning Ron, you're up early. Not quite midnight here.

  5. I seem to remember Socks was probably a first cat for the White House. Good grief 4.30 breakfast, I couldn't do it. It's time for me to head off to bed now, had way too many late nights/early mornings on the computer chatting with youngest daughter who lives in California now. She's up even later than me but a day back in time.
    Have a good day Ron and pass on headbonks to the cats please. Goodnight/morning.

  11. If memory serves me right I think Socks is a tuxie. Anyone else know!! Morning Ron, AZDeb. Nite, MS.

  12. Wow, I didn't even know Socks was still living. Yes, he was a tuxie. Amy Carter had a meezer when they were in the White House; I can't remember his name. The Bush's have a cat in the White House right now (I think his name is Inky, or something like that) and they have others at their home in Texas, I think. Many Presidents have had pets in the White House but the dogs are the only ones who are usually noticed.

  13. Correction: The Bush's cat is named India. Here is a link to some of the White House cats. Interesting that Abraham Lincoln had the first White House cat. And I forgot about Calvin Coolidge, who was a huge cat lover. I think my favorite was Teddy Roosevelt's family who basically brought a petting zoo to the White House (dogs, cats, horses, you-name-it).

    reminds me about the story cindy found about the library cat
    i looked it up and found that there is a sociaty of library cats all around the world with listing of libraries and the cats that live there

  17. I remember the library cats link, I told a friend of mine is the county director of libraries, she was very amazed when she looked it up..

  18. My next read is Dewey: The Small Town Library Cat Who Touched The World.
    I have had it for a while but with the holidays haven't had a chance to start it. I finished reading Marley & Me a couple of weeks ago. It was a wonderful story!! But a box of tissues is required!!!

  19. Wow,I didn't know Socks was still alive. I remember Clinton saying "everybody else brings a dog to the White House and I bring a neutered cat..."

  20. There have been many White House Cats they just prefer not to in front of the cameras..We all know they are happily in the background calling the shots..lol

  21. Well..Dear Socks lived a wonderfully long life. I hate to hear he's dying of cancer. I'm sure they're keeping him well medicated. Poor Socks. Prayers that he doesn't suffer as he makes his way to the Bridge. {{{Socks}}} {{{Bill}}} {{{Hillary}}} {{{Chelsea}}}

  22. I was going to post something about someone else needing to be neutered, but then thought better of it... ;-)

    I didn;t go to the link, but I thought the Clintons gave Socks away when they left the White House? And poor Buddy the dog was hit by a car and killed.

  27. ILMC, I just got that book in the mail and am going to read sometime soon. I too haven't had a chance to start it. I also read about a book called "A Snowflake in my Hand" and "Rainbow Bridge, A True Story about Rescue Cats". They both sounded interesting to me and will look into getting them after I read Dewey's story.

    I didn't know Socks was still alive either. Hope he is comfortable as he makes his long journey to the Rainbow Bridge.
