You won't need to worry about us, Terri. We live in Midland - I think that crazy is an unattainable goal!

Happy New Year to all my TDK family..I truly don't know what I would do without all of you!! I will be toasting with my hubby tonight and thinking of the new addition to world! Funny it seems that the birth of Fishie has brought all of us even closer!! I will also be giving a toast to those who have been lost this year. Many of us have lost family, friends and furry ones and even one of our own. *sniff* Till we see them again!!!
I agree I wish all a blessed New Year. Please make sure we all are able to chat during the New Year!
I am going to be the cook for party my daughter is going to. Old boyfriend called and asked if I could drive for the scavenger hunt, but I won't be out of church before they start. Daughter and I will head to the house after church and set out a spread for the kids to eat. I am making chicken salad sandwiches. Simple. Some on yeast rolls and some on french sesame toast. Made cookies too. I am also in charge of the healthy food, apparently daughter said if I don't do it no one will. I am picking up fruit. Of course I am making a carmel peanut butter dipping sauce--so essentially no healthy food this evening but all kid friendly.
A scavenger hunt??? Gosh, I used to just love those. I didn't know that kids did that anymore!
We are going to friends, but I am bringing the appetizers. Which, you won't be surprised to know, all involve cheese!

And black-eyed peas, 2bp!!!!! And a few tamales wouldn't hurt.

2BP apparently I am taking the grapes to the party! I just found out the kid that my daughter had for Secret Santa from the children's home will be attending the party. When she picked a 16 year old boy I told her it was not a dating service! I thought I was cute and funny---now I have to wonder.....
Daughter has asked for cream cheese sandwiches. I think she will eventually give up all meat.
Oh, my goodness, Pika - you have never had tamales????? They are delicious and can be savory or sweet. I'm from El Paso, Texas and there you see all kinds. Mostly beef or pork but also dessert tamales like raisin. I don't make them because they are tons of work and we can buy them here for much less than it would cost me to make them.
Here's a definition:
A tamale (Spanish tamal, from Nahuatl tamalli), is a traditional indigenous Latin American food consisting of steam-cooked corn dough (masa) with or without a filling. Tamales can be filled with meats, cheese (post-colonial), and sliced chillis or any preparation according to taste. The tamale is generally wrapped in a corn husk or plantain(post-colonial) leaves before cooking, depending on the region from which they come.
Their essence is the corn meal dough made from hominy (called masa), or a masa mix such as Maseca, usually filled with sweet or savory filling, wrapped in plant leaves or corn husks, and cooked, usually by steaming, until firm. Tamales were developed as a portable ration for use by war parties in the ancient Americas, and were as ubiquitous and varied as the sandwich is today. The diversity of native languages in the pre-Hispanic America led to a number of local words for the tamal, many of which remain in use.
And, in case you become inspired and want to try your hand at it.....

Gosh, Pika - you definitely need to come for a visit!!!

Bobby, they are really a main course. Or the sweet ones are a dessert course. Usually you'll find them on a Mexican combination plate. I like tamales covered in chili. Very healthy ;-)

GizzysUncle and I will be having our traditional end-of-year feast in front of the tube (cold cuts and a split of champagne). We figure that if we fall, we fall comfortable and bed's only a little ways away.
Cheers to all present. Love to all present and all who have passed on, both furfriends and humans.
