  1. Sisncats: It sure is. They are my babies - wouldn't be closer even if I had carried them in my belly.

  2. Happy New Year, Peeps!!! So far, I have had an extremely lazy New Years Day - sleeping in very late and then doing nothing so far! Yay! We had a lovely New Years Eve - Mr Rubia made a wonderful and we killed nearly 3 bottles of bubbly over the course of the evening! :-O Amazingly I felt fine when I woke up - I think most of the bubbly was absorbed by all the good food!

  3. Oooooh, I'm impressed, Rubia! I love champagne but if I have too much it wakes me SO sick the next morning!

I'm dog-and-car-sitting, but otrherwise taking it easy. I have a huge pot of coffee and pumpkin pie spice and watching Bones on tv. I really like that show and I never get to watch it because I work evenings.

  4. LOL, GD! Can the car come to bed with you? Does it prefer Sheba to Fancy Fiest? Does it like when you pet the wind shield???

  5. Oooops!

  6. yyyyyyuuuuummmmmmmmmmm!!! My whole house smells like hoppin' john!!! So delicious! Family coming in 30 min. Everything is done, so I thought I'd check in!!! Wow Rubia, 3 bottles and no hangover!!! That's impressive!! Must have been good champagne!! LOL Hi Miu & GD

  7. Hi AV! Have fun with your folks! PS. What is hopping john???

Posted 3 years ago by miu #

  8. Hoppin John is black-eyed peas, slow cooked with bits of ham or bacon, and served over white rice. Really yummy! Supposed to bring good luck, so are collard greens. Both of which are on my menu today!

  9. If you've never tried black eyed peas, they are so good, and good for you. You can buy them dried (you need to soak them overnight), or frozen. Either way, the longer they cook, the more tender and yummy they get! They are similar to maybe other dried beans you might have tried - navy beans or white beans, etc. but they have their own distinct flavor. Us Southerner's love 'em!!!

  10. Hmmmmm, all I've had so far is coffee - will that bring me luck?

Posted 3 years ago by GreatDane #

  11. Ah, never tasted those. Are you having a good day?

Posted 3 years ago by miu #

  12. Lucky coffee..... hhhhmmmm......sprinkle it with cinnamon... that should bring you luck!! LOL

Posted 3 years ago by AV #

  13. Miu, if you can buy some where you live, try them!! Simmer them in chicken or veggie stock along with a ham hock, or some bits of smoked ham or bacon. At least two hours, then serve over white rice - but watch out, you might become addicted!!! LOL

  14. Coffee with cinnamon - I'll try that. :)

Posted 3 years ago by miu #

  15. It's really good..... hubbs read an article (fairly recently) about the health benefits of cinnamon.... helps with heart, liver & kidney functions etc. so he started sprinkling it in his coffee, and it's yummy... I figure if it's good for you and healthy, it's gotta be good luck!!! :)

Gotta run make my cornbread...... will check you guys later....

  16. I almost always put cinnamon in my coffee - it's good for you!

Today, however, I've got pumpkin pie spice in it.

  17. Bring a few loaves to the TDK Café, will you?

Posted 3 years ago by miu #

  18. I could use a slice of pumpkin pie right now. It is health food, right?

Posted 3 years ago by miu #

  19. Happy New Year Family....I highly recommend the black-eyed peas. They're wonderful, & can be eaten any time of the day or night. It's been years since I've had them. Non-helper here wouldn't eat a pea, bean, lentil or other if his life depended on it. He doesn't know what he's missing. Gotta go get coffee. I'm not yet awake.

  20. G' morning, feral! *pours a full mug of coffee*

Posted 3 years ago by miu #

  21. Not real pumpkin pie, Miu, though that would be nice, too. This stuff:

  22. Happy New Year and a good morning to all. Nutmeg is also good in coffee. If you use a bean that is very strong or bitter in nature the nutmeg cuts that. Also if you have stomach issues and coffee is not on your menu, nutmeg can help.

Watching the Rose Parade--I love the floats. Right now they are showing the B2 and giving a beautiful salute to the military--the roar and cheer of the crowd was heartwarming.

  23. Good Morning, All and Happy 2009!!! (ACK - I can't believe that!)

*Wags finger sternly at CM and informs her that she is correct and that she will most definitely be scolded if she does not rest. Wanders up to nurses station, takes CM's chart and nonchalantly (so as not to gain attention) looks at doctors orders for painkillers. Politely asks CM's nurse if it isn't time to give CM some meds. Smiles innocently*

I have our black-eyed peas in the slow cooker and they cooked all night. They smell delicious!

We're off to Lowe's to get some storage containers that are on sale. Exciting!

Posted 3 years ago by WillowandWindismom #

  24. WWM I thought about you last night.

Grab those containers! Come on you know you love going to Lowe's! The smell is wonderful!

Enjoy those black-eyed peas. I didn't do them this year--hubby is the only one that will eat them. I thought I'd try the grape theory of luck this year--very tasty!

  25. Good Day Peeps! Had a low key New Years, dinner with friends at a faux cajun restaurant and then home by 10. I was looking at Abbiefish somewhere around Midnight. What a great way to start the new year than with a new born named Abbiefish! Mui I bought a can of black eye peas to send to you. I am going to find a bag of dried ones to send to you too. My grocery store was out of dried ones yesterday. GD, I'm watching Bones too. All this food talk has me craving pancakes. I'm off to make some and I'll be back. Oh, I forgot to tell y'all: I am going over to a friend of mine this evening. Peg is about 80 and every New Years day she invites a few guest over and we jump into her pool. Last year the heater wasn't working so it was frigid. It is cold here today so I hope the damn heater is working this year! LOL

Posted 3 years ago by tinafishfrombirthplaceofElvis #

  26. Tinafish that sounds like a fun tradition--heater or not! Make sure that you have a place to get warm quickly in case the heater isn't working though!

  27. The non-swimmers are in wait with towels straight out of the dryer!

Posted 3 years ago by tinafishfrombirthplaceofElvis #

  28. Sounds like fun, TF! I'm taking it easy today and watching the Bones marathon. Don't really have any food in the house, but plenty of coffee :)

  29. Good morning/afternoon/evening, Tina, SM, GD, Miu, WWM, AV and Rubia! I'm ensconced on my sofa with Digit curled up on my stomach and Furl snuggled against my legs. I've got the Rose Parade on the TV. I remember my grandmother calling us when we were children to remind us to watch this parade or to comment on the wonderful floats.
